Cool.
I did this a couple times (with different DL links) and the same thing happened both times. I get a page that tells me it's dividing integers by zero and to zip it and send it somewhere. The map editor works, and can be patched to 3.3, but the actual game doesn't. I don't really mind, but I'd like to know why/if this is common/what's causing it.
I don't NEED WoG just to apply ERM to a non-modded SoD, do I?

Otherwise, some of the stuff in WoG would be a good way of seeing ERM in working.
But is there a chance someone could do something like...
-Change Mysticism to 10%/20%/30% with ERM and show me the script/where to put it/how?
Or even just take the script from WoG (because that's an option they have in the mod) and show me how to apply it to SoD?

I have the ERM Help 2.81 and Updated, but there's a lot to look through about everything from Sylvan Centaurs and Commanders. All I'm looking for is simple editing things.

I will be reading through all the stuff on the ERM, but for the moment, any possibility of sling-shotting me towards a few small specifics?
Thanks for all the directions!

How many times do I need to quote myself? You are in Era thread, so it can be only one DL link logically on first page. Run Era on CLEAN Heroes III, forget editor, patch or whatever, they are ALL included in Era.

That's interesting. Even on a clean H3, the game doesn't work and the 3.3 editor patch needed to be done for the copy-paste option. I must be doing something wrong, I'm new to this.
I'll try again, as bread-and-butter as I can. No biggy.

I found the tutorials of ERM in the index of it, and heard a tutorial specifically demonstrated what I'm looking for. Fun.

I'll keep fiddling away until it's good. Thanks. haha

Sometimes people think their H3 game is clean, but in fact it has wog 3.58 data in. Make sure you install clean heroes, from HD, torrents or whatever. If it is not clean, Era will not work. You don't need 3.3 patch editor with Era, is already patched with it.

It sounds like you have not managed to install a working version of Era 2. If you have any of it installed, you will have a subfolder under it which is Mods/WoG/Data/s which contains the script "43 wog - mysticism skill enhancement.erm". The comments at the start of the script describe it as follows:

Mysticism Enhancement v1.2 by Anders Jonsson
Updated July 14, 2004
Updated September 15, 2004 by Timothy Pulver for local y variable correction.

This script enhances the Mysticism Skill levels as:
Basic- hero can predict what next "Week of" will be. This only works if Timothy Pulver's Week of Monsters
Script v1.3 or higher is running at the same time.
Advanced- hero can predict what spells a Mage Guild will contain. This will drain the hero of all spell
points and movement for that turn.
Expert- if the player right-clicks on an enemy hero whithin a hero with Mysticism's scouting radius, and
the hero with Mysticism is selected, the hero may pay 5 Spell Points to learn all enemy hero skills,
spells, equipped artifacts, creatures, and how much experience, primary skills, luck, morale and spell
points that hero has.
It also lets heroes regenerate 10%, 20% or 30% of their normal maximum spell points each day, depending
on their level of Mysticism, double amount for AI heroes.

You can read the rest of it in the ERM Script Editor (part of the ERM tools which you should have already downloaded, but if not is included with Era 2 under Tools/ERM Editor). Good luck understanding it without reading ERM Help, which every ERM scripter has had to read (sooner or later).

I have ERM Help 2.81 and ERM Updated, other than that, just Era.
Are those^ the script editing tools I need? Doesn't seem like it, but maybe I'm missing something.
I read some tutorial on the index page/site, and it says I need to most updated version of the ERM Scripting Tools. Would Help+Updated be them? If not, can you link me the tools I need?

I just got Heroes again, doing it from scratch to make sure I haven't tainted anything.

On the Era I did go for, I have the Mods/WoG/Data/s/'43 wog - mysticism skill enhancement.erm' (and ERT for something?)

I'll for sure be reading everything I can on the ERM scripting, but seeing that file makes me think I don't have the Scripting tool I need.

Edit: Scratch some of that I think.
Didn't check the Era folder for the ERM Scripting Tools. That's where I'm going now I guess. haha

EditEdit: It's under WHAT?/Tools/ERMetc? I can't find the tools folder. Must be blinded or something...

In \ERA 2.4\Tools\Mod Manager open modsmann.exe. You will get a list of all tools available. You can right-click on each to get extra info. Some modify graphics, other scripts. The one you need is the Erm editor, it will open any *erm file. This is the tool you need, combined with erm help (that one will open the tutorials and general rules/examples)

Awesome.

Question, might be silly, maybe not.

If I copy/transfer the '43 mysticism' file to a certain place in a clean Heroes 3 SoD, would it apply it to the game, the way a TXT adjustment does so quickly?
Or is the '43 erm' file extracted/created from somewhere and therefore only has a place in Era/WoG and won't compute with H3 (unless renamed maybe)?

Edit: Posted instead of Edited, I guess I should look into this forum more for how it functions/get rid of DPs and stuff too.

Edit: And good... the Script editor opened the '43 mysticism' erm file, and I can finally see the ERM Script in front of me. Now I think I have all the faculties I need to start really studying the nitty-gritty, follow the tutorials, read the help stuff, and actually get somewhere.
Thanks peeps!

The answer to this, and ten thousand other questions, may be inferred from reading ERM Help, and practicing with the tutorial scripts. We could copy and paste ERM Help here a few lines at a time, question by question, or you could eliminate the middle men and read ERM Help from the original document.  ERM Help was written by the WoG Team with a lot of effort, to teach people how to use ERM. We had to read it and practice to be able to answer such questions. If you are not willing to spend the time and effort yourself, then there is no chance that you will become a good ERM scripter and we would be wasting our time and your time by replying to every random question. I am sorry if this seems harsh.

Reading ERM Help was actually interesting and enjoyable to me. As when reading a good novel, I did not expect everything to be clear to me at once, as it takes a critical mass of information to understand something.

I do not object to answering questions about interpretations or fine points of what is in ERM Help, but I expect people to invest some of their own time first. Maybe others feel differently.

This will be my last reply on this off-topic issue on this thread. (Try not to be too disappointed.) The ERM Help and Discussion thread is a better place for ERM questions. (Era questions do belong here, of course.)

Was my bad, didn't mean to derail the topic so much. haha

I love reading this stuff. Was just going through the tutorials and browsing the Help stuff, and so far it's all really clear, direct, and generally awesome. I'll refrain from bugging people here now that I have the scripting tools and links I need, and have checked around them enough to know the general direction I need to go. Good stuff.
Thanks for answering all the silliness, it inevitably lead me to exactly where I needed, despite the side-tracking of it.

On topic...
Still can't get Era to work. lol
Won't be too concerned with it though, I have catch-up to do with ERM's before I'll bother with it, or anymore silly questions.

In order to do the tutorial scripts you will have to have either WoG 3.58f or Era 2 installed (Era 2's executable is based on an early version of WoG 3.59 which is not official, but useable with some new ERM commands, to which Bersy has added - see the Era Manual, included in the download). (All the WoG 3.58f ERM commands will work under Era 2, but not vice-versa.)

The Era 2 download comes as a self-extracting (executable) WinRAR archive. When you execute it (e.g., double-click the .exe file), it asks for a folder where it will be installed. That folder must contain Heroes 3 SoD or Heroes 3 Complete without any additions (except possibly for patches from 3DO if like me you have early versions of the Heroes 3 CD's, but no patches from sources outside 3DO - or I guess UbiSoft, these days). I have so far installed Era 2.2, 2.3, and 2.4 (the latest version)(all in different folders) without any problems, on a Windows 7 PC. Others have done the same on Windows XP machines. I don't think Era (or Wog 3.58f) is compatible with Mac PC's and currently Era is not compatible with Linux.

P.S. Under Windows 7, I recommend installing Heroes 3 under "My Documents" rather than "Program Files". This will eliminate a compatibility problem in security provisions between W7 and XP. (And I wouldn't touch Windows 8 with a ten-foot pole, at this point.)

I'm getting a lot of value littered in clumps among these posts, never heard of DEP, was going to (attempt) installing it on my bros computer with Linux, to the backstory/history/general knowledge stuff.
Thanks for being so thorough and broad. I'll be looking into all of it next time I go to work on this stuff.

And probably disappear into the depths of ERM helps for the next little while.

The quality of help and posts on these threads amongst yourselves really makes the seeming complexity of this stuff come together. That 'critical mass' of stuff gets another side of it in conversation form, amplifying efficiency of getting the info across. The more the discussions lean towards universal explanation among the specific scripting stuff really makes it flow easy.

tl;dr, browsing these things on this forum is super fun and helpful, keep it up for newbie sakes too.

I uploaded a corrected saved game (DrakersBug.Gm1) and Battle Academy script (62 wog - battle academy.erm) here

The problem was my fault - sorry. While fixing another bug back in 2008 I made a comment about the original problem which included the problem command in quotes - which I now know better than to do, but did not then. The ERM interpreter does not respect comment lines and was executing it. For some reason this did not cause a problem under WoG 3.58f, or at least I did not find one during my tests back then. Maybe it takes an unusual set of variable settings to produce it.

I apologize for the annoying error messages which this caused.
