Oh blow me!
The following article is the type of ignorant **** that gives the POLITICIANS more reasons for ridiculous gun control. I own guns and would never leave a gun loaded and unattended in my home. Idiot!
(Reuters) - An Indiana father watching television with his children was accidentally shot to death by his 3-year-old son after the boy found a loaded handgun nearby, police said on Saturday.
Michael Payless, 33, was found dead in the southern Indiana town of Salem on Friday night.
Payless was watching television with two of his children when the other child, a 3-year-old boy, found the gun.
"The child accidentally discharged the loaded handgun ... Michael A. Payless was pronounced dead at the scene," an Indiana state police statement said.
Payless, with his wife, three children, and another juvenile, had been at the house doing some remodeling work, the statement said.

........ Wwwwwwwwwwwwoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.....
This isn't a gun problem, this is a dumb problem. Easily solvable by simple common sense in a few steps. One, do not leave the bloody gun loaded. Step two, do not let your three year old child handle the gun. Step three, if you give a gun to your child, make sure it is not loaded. Step four, make sure that any loaded gun is not pointed at a living human being, especially if said gun is in the hands of a three year old.
Unfortunately, common sense seems to be in short supply these days.

Hence the need for "ridiculous" gun control.

No,we can't stop dumb people and this guy paid the price for that. However don't punish me the non criminal who's neighborhood is getting broke into and I have a 3 day waiting period for a hand gun. The criminals don't wait, why should I. Plus you can go to walmart and buy a shot gun with no waiting period but not a hand gun? If your going to regulate things it should make sense. This is why our government must stay out as much as possible because they can't wipe their *** correctly why should they be imposing regulations.

Because you don't want the guy who just got dumped by a girl that he has been going out with for five years going berzerk with his gun that he buys an hour after she breaks up with him because she slept with another man. Of course, the same regulation really should be on rifles if it is going to make sense... But the waiting period is there to prevent as many crimes of passion as you possibly can.
On the side of regulation, if you are prepared to buy a gun then you should also know how to defend yourself when you don't have a gun, because one will not always be on you. For instance, your house is being broken into. You should know (as the home owner) the best place to set an ambush, and you should always have a nice, heavy blunt object to use to beet the intruder senseless... once your gun is got, then you will still have the same ambush spot and an upgrade on your weapon.
On the subject of no regulation whatsoever, I don't want the guy that lacks the common sense to keep a loaded gun out of his three year old son's hands to have access to rocket launchers and other military grade weapons. As one can guess, this could very quickly and easily end poorly... For this reason, certain weapons should not be available to the general public. The list of weapons are basically limited to military grade rifles and things like that, but restricting them is a form of regulation...
Oh and if it wasn't clear, I don't trust individuals to regulate their own weapons any more than I trust a national or even state government. As an example of "Why," I direct you to the opening post. Would you, honestly, be able to trust these people to regulate themselves?

The same "people" that you are referring to that you are asking to regulate us are people just like us, so we want people regulating us that are no different than anyone else? They have a different agenda is the problem, I trust myself more than them.
As far as a waiting period that is only in place in certain states, one that I happen to live in. Yes you should be able to defend yourself, I for one have taught the police department in hand to hand combat, was a kick boxer and taught and trained in martial arts.
I am well equipped in that manner. I still should have the right to be on the same playing field with any criminal and carry on me no matter where I am at. I can't do that here in Illinois which is a problem and violates my rights to bare arms.
I never said "no regulations", no I don't feel people should carry missiles on them or drive tanks around.*smacks self in head*

@ VF
BTW, I know you like to get down on them Dems. But I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that, the vast majority of these ridiculous accidental shootings occur in Rep, or right wing families.

Well blow me down hard, this is very unfortunate.
I will have to say that this reason alone is why we have been lecturing parents for years & years not to leave guns in children's reach.
This is why. I feel sorry for the family, but when will we learn!

@Just Joe
I have edited my original post so that it appears I am not riding the dems. Since you are an independent yourself you should know that it is not about supporting the party only the parts of the party you agree with.

No, never actually. I'm just thinking of something that would make sense. *Shrug*
If you have common sense on your side, it seems strangely easy to protect a home, even if you don't have a gun... odd...
