Mat waited for the lighter thief to get situated before he stood up slowly, pushing Rincewind up along the wall as far as he could. He panted slightly at the effort, maybe his body had been changed when whatever happened had happened and he just hadn't known it? Hmmm... that would explain why he had lost that bet in town as well. He would have to test this theory to be sure though.

Standing one atop the other, you are just an arm's length shy of the grate holding up the light—if your positions were reversed, and Mat were holding his ashandare, he could hit the floor above with weapon to spare.

Koto moved towards the hole with care. The sound had come from the other side of the hole, and for all Koto knew the origin of the sound could be an eek. Or worse. Having gotten to the opening without making a sound, Koto pushed his back up towards the wall and slowly turned his head to peek inside.

Koto and Broïndur:
As Koto edges towards the hole he hears the occasional very faint clicking—easily drowned out by the sounds of smashing boxes and even the soft talk of the looters next door. The insectile smell is stronger here. As he peers into the hole, his shoulder brushes up against cobwebs spun just outside it.
Fast as the eye can blink, an enormous spider pounces from the shadows. Two more follow shortly, skittering out of the darkness beyond, although they seem to be avoiding the lantern light.
((Calling this a 2. If either of you get bit, you will swiftly find out they're poisonous.))

The contents of the boxes and trunks Broïndur was nothing to write hoem about, metaphorically speaking. More old clothing and spoilt food. The clothing was not use- or sellable nor was it embroidered with the crescent moon to indicate that it had some religious significance.
However, after going through quite some junk, Broïndur noticed a promissing box in the corner. Koto was nearby looking at something on the wall. It had a large padlock on the front of it and it looked in very good nick. Broïndur went to it and lifted it off the ground setting it down on one of the still intact crates.
Broïndur gave it a good looking over, as he did the immediate surroundings, but there were no keys in sight. Broïndur grunted, for some reason he was opposed to smashing this particular box. Yes, a good, lockable box always came in handy, but Broïndur was not quite sure that was the only reason he did not want to smash this box as he did the others.
"Ey, Koto. Have ye noticed any keys lyin' round here. This box here looks promissing. Or maybe a slinky bugger like yerself can pick the lock, eh? Hehehe. Koto?"
((OoC:Broïndur is still oblivious to the spiders, as much as that needed stating))

"Holy mounta-SPIDERS!" Koto gasped while stumbling backwards, knives in hand "BROÏNDUR!" koto shouted "Grab your weapon, three giant spiders came out of the hole in the wall!" Koto pointed with one knife at the hole and then he pointed at the spiders "They are over there! Hiding in the shadows!" Not sure off what to do, Koto decided to wait for Broïndur to make a move.

When Koto screamed, Broïndur pivoted on the spot, the locked box still in hand. Locating the spiders while he turned and without thinking about it, hurled the box into the corner at the spiders.
Two of them skittered away in time, but the one in the middle appeared to have a tough time choosing which way to go and got hit with the box. Something audibly crunched.
The box was still intact though, so it the crunch was either the spider or the contents of the box.
Broïndur scrambled for his axe, trying to locate either of the remaining two spiders. But they scittered outside the pool of light cast by the lantern.
"Where'd they come from?" Broïndur asked, slightly perplexed by the fact that there were suddenly three spiders roughly the size of foxes in the small room with them. Meanwhile jogging his mind to try to think of anything he knew about spiders remotely that size and what to do about them.

Tristan:
"What were you expecting, a royal suite? Be happy there's a nice dry ship for you to be locked up in; less civilized places would have fed you to the sharks."
You sit down and wait; Jason is apparently out of it sufficiently that he doesn't stir. After a while you hear two pairs of boots descending a staircase, one of which stops out of sight. The other pair turns out to belong to the aforementioned lieutenant—a human man with light brown hair and beard, the latter of which he strokes absently as he speaks.
"So this is our pair of troublemakers." You can tell his expression would be kind if he weren't currently looking so stern. "What do you have to say for yourselves, drawing weapons in the middle of town?"
----------------
Koto and Broïndur:
Most of what Broïndur recalls is what not to do; the creatures cling to walls easily so trying to blockade them doesn't work unless you can block the entire passageway. Beyond that they don't like bright light and avoid places that are extremely cold.

Having overcome the initial shock, Koto now scanned the room for anything useful. "They're carnivours." Koto said "So maybe they'll stand still if we throw them some meat?"
"Where'd they come from?"
"Through the hole in the wall over there!" Without taking his eyes off the spiders, Koto once again pointed with one dagger towards the hole.

"Koto, have ye ever heard of rhetoric questions?" Broïndur responded with his teeth clenched and following the movements of one of the spiders. The spider scittered up the left wall, for some reason Broïndur could not fathom.
He gripped his axe tightly with both hands and prepared a swing to his left. "You get the right one," he hissed.
With a roar, he swung his axe and with another familiar sounding crunch burried it into the front two-thirds of the spiders Cephalothorax and into the wall beyond it. However, the axe was now stuck into the wall. And Broïndur had to put his foot against the wall, taking care not to do so too close to the spider, to yank it back out again. The spider might have where it's head was supposed to be cleaved intwain, but it never hurt to be carefull.
"That'll dull the edge," Broïndur said more to himself than anyhting else. And then with a heavy grunt, he yanked his axe back out the wall again, carefull not to swing it all too far in the other direction and dropping the body of the spider back to the floor.
"Ye get the other one?"

Rincewind stretched himself trying to get to a handhold, but instead lost his balance and fell down on the hard floor.
"Ouch! It's just too high..." said Rincewind while rubbing his back, "That's life for you, I guess, the things you want the most are always in your sight but just out of your reach. Can't we just knock out some windows with stones, get the broken glass and get out already?"

"There aren't any windows Rinse." Mat said, still looking up, "Well, at least not any with glass in them. I wonder..." The mortar of this building looked rather old. Pulling out a dagger, the ranger began to scratch away at some, trying to loosen one of the smaller rocks to make a hand or foot hold.

Mat and Rincewind:
The mortar flecks away under Mat's chipping. It's not a fast process by any means, but it does seem to be working and eventually he is able to work the stone free.

Mat tosses a knife to Rincewind and pulls out a second one for himself. "Come on, help me out here and we should be able to get the glass and get back before the sun sets." He winced to think of what this would do to the edges on his knives, but there really didn't seem to be another way. No rope, no ladder and no stairs equaled rock climbing.

Fandral bade them farewell, and then tried to find a quiet little spot to look at the tome in a little more depth. While doing so, he handled the small pouch which he pilfered from the room, and investigated the contents,
"I'll probably take them to the the local alchemist to see what manner of potion could be brewed from them."'~said Fandral
He pocketed the pouch and peered around, then trudged over to a grand tree, and sat in its shade. He then drew the history tome and began investigating it with a glare, page by page, (though mostly flicking through without absorbing too much, being none-too-fond of certain topics, and nothing really standing out, and that's assuming that I can read the language)

Damn crowd!, Grog thought to himself, As if I don't have enough problems right now, but they have to aimlessly walk everywhere like... like... like if someone has casted muddle on them!
((OOC: Muddle is a spell in Shining Force which confuses the person/creature on whom the spell was used))
Taking a few seconds to calm down, Grog realized that he should look for his friend, who apparently is looking for Calimund too.
"Keska,", he said, "one of my friends is looking for Calimund too. I think that we should find him first and then start looking for the cleric. Are you alright with this?"
