Can't play Heroes 3 campaigns
Hi guys,
after some time I wanted to play Heroes 3 again. Haven't played it for quite some time and I think it was a year ago I installed it anew and finished all but the last campaign.
Now, instead of finishing only it I wanted to play through all singleplayer campaigns.
Now comes the actual problem: No matter which campaign I choose, I'm always starting on the map called "Greed". I'm completely unable to play the actual campaigns. It gets even stranger as all instructions of this map are displayed in English while I have the German version installed. Reinstalling didn't solve the problem. I searched on Google if anyone has experienced the problem but I didn't get a result.
I stumbled across a cheat code to immediately win a map and tried it out. And what happended when I got to the second map in the campaign? It was again "Greed". Single player scenarios work fine though.
I hope there's anyone here that can help me getting this wonderful game to work. Haven't finished it once since my Dad bought it ten years ago (was too young to understand any tactics) and it would be a pity if now that I want to do I can't do it.

Strange.. It seems to me that you got some unofficial modified version of the game.

That is kind of impossible as it is the same CD my father bought ten years ago, which worked on three different computers and on my current installation as well around a year ago.
The only thing I could imagine is that it is some kind of copyright protection and that the CD is just overused and that deteriorated that the game can't find specific parts and misleadingly assumes it's not a legal copy.
What speaks against it is that I can't find anything like cracks or such.

I don't think there is such protection in the game's code. Do you remember if these campaigns worked properly ten years ago?

Definitely. And they did when I installed it the last time which was like one year ago. That was under the same operating system: Win 7 64-bit
Worked pretty fine. That was the reason I actually noticed the first mission is off, because I know the beginning of the first three campaigns (and the fact that in the Inferno and Dungeon campaign you don't have a city or a hero and automatically loose)

It says the version is 1.1, which is comprehensible as I only own the original game and not the add-ons and haven't patched it yet.

Thanks for your efforts guys, but I got it now, the solution was incredibly easy:
I only needed to start the game at least as an adminastrator and now everything is fine again

Still you should upgrade your game version to 1.4, to have a stable and mostly bug free version
