Drystan holstered his bow and said, "I wouldn't bother trying to make any armor out of its carapace. Chauruses are better for that sort of thing."
He drew out a vial from his satchel. "However...their venom can be useful in a pinch."
Morn came running from up ahead on the road where the rest of the group and the stormcloaks lay. He then half yelled, "Oi! There's a giant up ahead on the bridge. He doesn't look like he'd move, and that bridge is our only crossing for miles!"
Drystan collected venom from the spider, then turned and said, "Wait for us up there and please don't do anything stupid."
Morn nodded and retreated back to the group.

Following Morn's announcement Yu looked up the river, considering. "You know... Argonians don't need to be in air breathe. If you provide me some kind of distraction I should be able to travel under the water and pop up behind the giant to make the fight easier..." He said to Drystan. "My steel should be able to hamstring the overgrown nord at the very least, and when a giant falls... well," He added a bit more meaning to his last words, "with us around it wouldn't be getting back up."

Drystan thought it over. "It's a good plan, so long as you don't get sucked in by the river's current. It's very strong. Even more so since we are close the waterfall that drops to the Whiterun plains. After this bridge, getting to Whiterun will take little time. Can you get through the current to the other side undetected?"

Yu smiled for some reason, "Little currents in little rivers aren't a problem." Was his only response before he walked into a deeper part of the river and dove down. He swam close to the bottom, letting the current carry him slowly along before popping up a few meters down to wave at Drystan, Noxa and whoever else was watching.

“What? A giant?!” Sophia bellowed in fear.
The novice mage nearly faded at the news of their leader. Bandits, wolves, spider, hunger and now a giant – the farm girl had thought what mess did she put herself into! Now she wished she never left home! But deep insided her naive heart, she knew it was wrong.
Drystan and the others have been good to her. They took her, fed her, offered her something to sleep on and tended her wounds… saved her life. They even accepted her regardless of her poor ability in battle. She owed them a lot and she looked forward on paying off her debts. Her kind heart cannot afford the traiterous act so she decided to go on.
Weak and frail and with a really deep sigh, the mage stepped up and voluntarily involved herself in the fight, “What can I do to help?”

"I wouldn't bother trying to make any armor out of its carapace. Chauruses are better for that sort of thing. However...their venom can be useful in a pinch."
Disappointed (and not a little chagrined to be so transparent) Noxa put the leg down. Her own brief examination agreed with him, unfortunately: the carapace felt brittle—hard, but if she tried to shape it into something other than its natural spider shape, it would break instead of bend. And she couldn't imagine a situation where she could possibly need poison. Maybe something else...
But her thoughts were interrupted when Morn came running back, shouting about giants. Noxa rejoined the group on the road proper, arriving soon enough to catch the tail end of the conversation.
"Do we need to fight at all? Could we reason with the giant?"

Thorald heard Noxa. "Reason with a giant? Sure, if you speak giant and are twelve meters tall. Other than that, I wouldn't bother. It'd be easier to just kill the damn thing."
"Let's try to avoid a direct attack though." said Drystan. "Unless you are trained well enough, one strike can send you flying through the air."

“So we try to lure it, that the others could get a free shot at it?”, Sophia suggested.
She wondered where did she get that tactic or if it could be called one.

Noxa thought about arguing further, but could tell by the stubborn light in Drystan's eyes she'd be wasting her time. (She didn't speak Giant, either.) Instead she just checked her hammer to make sure she could get to it promptly this time if she needed it, and did her best not to sigh. She supposed she ought to get used to these adventuring sorts and their need to always fight.
“So we try to lure it, that the others could get a free shot at it?”
Noxa brightened a little. "If we could lure it off the bridge, then we could just go past it. No need to stay and fight." And then she dimmed again. "Though I suppose if it meant to move, it wouldn't be on the bridge in the first place."

"He's going to attack it from behind." replied Drystan.
"The lizard is going to get himself killed." muttered Thorald.
"Unless we hit it with a barrage first, distracting it, and making it come towards us."
"Then scaly can hit it from behind."
"Or we can let him attract the giant, making it chase him while we safely cross the bridge." suggested Morn. "I'm not sure how Yuan can come back around to us in time, but it's an option."
"Well we can't communicate to him now." said Drystan. "He's already across the river by now. Ready your arrows."
He then walked over to Sophia. "You want to help? Light the arrows as we fire them, but please be careful and try not to kill us."

The job seemed too easy for the mage. For at the moment, she was far from danger. She would be able to concentrate more to cast a successful spell. The farm girl was very happy to help and she actually forgot that she was sick and wet. She finally felt that she’s not useless.
She smiled as she wiped her hands dry on Noxa’s clothes. Then she began to concentrate. She held her hands close to each other to control the range of the spell. The flames slowly emerged from her hands and as she planned, it did not extend its length but rather stayed circling around her palms.
“I’m ready,” the young mage announced as she walked toward each of the guard and lit their arrows with fire.

Now, swimming across the river would have been sort of stupid. If you can stay underwater indefinitely, why not stay in it waiting for the perfect chance to ambush to come along? Besides, the giant was sitting on a bridge that was, as far as Yu was aware, farther down the river. So why not float along like a large clump of fur or green log, the Argonian had heard somewhere that giants had terrible eyesight, and then stay under the bridge until the attack began and use the distraction of your allies to shorten the giant by a shin or two?
So, with that plan in mind, Yuan-Ta set out to do exactly that. Something that Drystan apparently hadn't thought of. Which may or may not cause problems in the near future...

Feeling a little guilty about the upcoming bloodshed (and frowning a little at the mage for using her as a napkin), Noxa nevertheless got ready to help as best she could. ((No idea if I managed to loot a bow and arrows vs. the bandits or not. If not, she gets her hammer ready and maybe finds some rocks to throw in a pinch.))

((Noxa can have a bow))
All of the stormcloaks and others with bows readied their arrows, and aimed from the bushes towards the giant on the bridge as Sophia lit them with fire. Then Thorald brought down his hand, giving the command to his stormcloak soldiers to fire. The rest followed suit. Not all of the arrows hit the giant, but the ones that did made him jump up and roar in anger.

The arrow's flaming head was uncomfortably close to her hand before it soared off to do its dirty work as Noxa let fly.
Admittedly she was the last to do so, due as much to reluctance as to lack of skill. She would have been far easier in her mind if they were firing on another pack of wolves or giant spider, and not a creature who was perfectly intelligent and hadn't yet done them any harm.
Unhappily she noted it wasn't a bad shot, although she wouldn't be winning any prizes for archery in the near future. She'd handled a bow before, but usually only to tighten the string or adjust it for a new owner.
She still preferred shooting beasts.

Another volley fired, but the giant's tough skin was too strong for the arrows to severely hurt him. It approached the group with surprising speed as it lumbered forth. Thorald drew his greatsword and advanced, bellowing warcries as he went.
"Now would be a great time for you to come around, Yuan!" yelled out Drystan as he shot arrows into the giant.
The giant swung at Thorald, who rolled out of harm's way, then struck it's leg before rolling away from another blow. Morn then charged towards the giant as well.

Yu was already running, holding his blade low in both hands as he silently charged his target from behind. Now, it was too tall to strike any truly vital points, even with Yu's larger height, but that could be changed rather quickly... Coming in range, Yuan swung viciously at the back of the giant's right knee and brought his blade down in an over-head chop into its left shin, before kicking his blade free to swing at the giant's torso.

Remembering what Drystan had said about getting flung, Noxa backed away as the Giant advanced. Here her combat inexperience really showed; she nearly stumbled over a stone backing up, and her next arrow went flying harmlessly past the creature's head. It was much more difficult to hit a moving target. But actually firing at it was a little easier, now, as there were people right in front of it who would surely be killed if the giant was not.
