1980's Flashback

God, I'm old!! Do any of these scenearios sound familiar to anyone?  Then you're old too!! Kiddies of the 1980's, here we go....

Snap bracelets were always getting you in trouble at school.

Um Bongo, Um Bongo, They drink it in the Congo

You played with "My Little Ponies."

Friendship bracelets were ties that couldn't be broken.

You ever read Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, The Babysitters Club,Forever or Sweet Valley High.

You know all the words to "Ice Ice Baby".

You wanted to be on "Jim'll Fix It".

You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before he had plastic surgery.

You wore one of those slap-on wristbands at some point...or heaven forbid one of those T-shirts that changed colour with heat (Global Hypercolour).

You had slouch socks and puff painted your own shirt at least once.

You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, Wax off".

You were upset when She-ra, Princess of Power and He-Man got cancelled.

You can remember watching Saved by the Bell

You remember Madonna in her cone stage.

You knew "The Artist" when he was humbly called "Prince."

You even wore fluorescent-neon clothing... (if you can call it clothing!)

Not only did you wear fluorescent-neon clothing, but they were mismatched with fingerless gloves and toweling socks.

You could break dance (ok, you wished you could)

You remember when Amiga was a state of the art video game system.

You remember M.C. Hammer.

You can still sing the rap to "Fresh Prince of Bel Air"....

You can remember when it was Jazzy Jeff and The fresh Prince and NOT just plain Will Smith!

You own any cassettes.

You carried your lunch to school in a Gremlins, ALF or ET lunchbox.

You have ever pondered on why Smurfette was the ONLY female smurf.

My Little Pony, Gummy Bears and Transformers are familiar to you.

You ever had a Swatch Watch.

You actually spent countless hours trying to perfect the "Care Bear stare."

You believed that "By the power of Greyskull, you HAD the power!"

You spent hours in the basement building and re- building Lego cities.

Big wheels and BMX's were the way to go.

With your pink (or blue) portable tape player, you sang to Kylie and Jason!

If you ever owned Polly Pocket or Micro Machines.

If you ever made Ken fall in love with Barbie.

You know what " Psyche" means.

Partying "like it's 1999" seemed SO far away.

You knew that Transformers were "more than meets the eye".

You wore a banana clip at some point during your youth.

You actually thought "Dirty Dancing" was a REALLY good film.

You were led to believe that in the year 2000 we'd all be living in space.

You know what leg warmers are and probably had a pair.

You wore biker shorts underneath a short skirt and felt stylish.

You had to change into play clothes after school.

You recorded songs off the radio with your boom box.

Somehow you still know all the words to songs played on VH1's "Big 80s"

Your arm was full of rubber bracelets.

You can still sing 1 to 12 from the Pinball machine song on Sesame Street.

You wore those wide, colourful shoelaces.

You still don't like going in the sea because of Jaws.

You remember Now compilations that had the pig on the front cover.

You never questioned why the A-Team were always imprisoned in places that had sufficient tools to build an armoured tank.

Dungeons & Dragons was your favourite programme.

You've ever said "bright light, bright light" in a strange high-pitched voice.

You fell out with friends during heated arguments about the relative merits of Matt & Luke.

Cerise pink, electric blue and banana yellow have ever featured in your wardrobe or make-up collection.

You ever did the top toggle of your coat up around your neck without having your arms in the sleeves, and you knew you looked like a superhero.

Your new winter coat was best used to demonstrate that your wings were like a shield of steel.

You still remember when the A-ha video was the pinnacle of modern technology and you can still sing all the words.

Your best party dress was either a ra-ra or puff-ball skirt.

You wondered why a popular kids TV programme told you to "Turn off your TV set and go and do something less boring instead".

You were shocked by the controversial plot lines in Degrassi Junior High.

You remember watching a house inhabited by a jester, a pantomime horse and a woman who sneezed, and thinking that this was perfectly normal.

You tried to convince your Dad to fit a strip of red lights on the front of Capri so it looked like KITT.

You've ever seen a girl, a clown and noughts and crosses on your  TV.

You've ever had more than 10 sweets in a 10p mix-up.

You hid behind the sofa whenever you heard the word "Exterminate!".

You could have got away with it if it wasn't for those meddling kids.

Girls) You owned a pair of Pixie boots, generally worn with leg warmers.

Boys) You owned a pair of pale grey slip-ons, generally worn with white towelling socks.

Ooh, you could crush a grape!

You've ever held a chicken in the air or stuck a deckchair up your nose.

You wore legwarmers & tried to do the splits while jumping in the air while singing you were going to live forever.

You remember Fingermouse and Dangermouse (not forgetting his trusty sidekick Penfold!)

Trains in Wales went "Pshh-t-cuf, pshh-t-cuf, pshh-t-cuf, pshh-t-cuf, pshh-t-cuf".

You know all the words to "Hey Mickey" (well, nobody knows past the first verse anyway).

You remembered Look In magazine, and when it was only 20p and Monster Munch when they were 10p.

Your best mate had a Soda Stream at home and you were jealous.

Any elderly Scottish lady sounds like Supergran

You remember crying on the beach building sandcastles in the rain.

Hide and seek in the park, the corner shop, Hopscotch,  butterscotch, skipping, handstands, football in the park/street, British Bulldog, Beano, Twinkle, Hula Hoops, jumping in enormous puddles and building dams

When 'Computer' Tennis, Pac-Man and Donkey-Kong ruled

You remember hearing the tune then running out to buy an ice cream cone on a warm summer night - 99's, screwballs or a cider lolly.

You got up extra early, especially to watch Saturday Morning cartoons

You were occasionally allowed to stay up late for Howard's Way, Dallas,Dynasty or Minder.

Running till you were out of breath. Laughing so hard that your stomach hurt. Using the bed as a trampoline. Pillow fights. Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down made you have a fit of the giggles, being tired from playing.

Water balloons were the ultimate weapon.

It wasn't odd to have two or three "best" friends.

You didn't sleep a wink on Christmas Eve.

You remember when 25p was decent pocket money and you'd reach into a muddy gutter for 10p.

Important decisions were made by going "eeny-meeny-miney-mo."

Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better and taking drugs meant orange-flavoured chewable aspirin.

Abilities were discovered because of a "double-dare".

Older siblings were the worst tormentors, but also the fiercest protectors.

I can answer yes to too many of these....

hehe really kewl thread, well since im born 1981 ill give this a shot. These are some that i am really familiar with.

You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before he had plastic surgery. - yeah then he actually looked human!

You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, Wax off". - ill never forget the first time i saw that movie when daniel was hunted by those bad guys in skel costumes.

You were upset when She-ra, Princess of Power and He-Man got cancelled. - He-Man RUELD!

You can remember watching Saved by the Bell - Yeah i even think i still remember the music in the beginning "When i wake up in the morning..."

You remember when Amiga was a state of the art video game system. - Spent many hours at a fríends house playing that "awesome" computer

You can still sing the rap to "Fresh Prince of Bel Air".... - Yeah, anyone wanna hear it?

You can remember when it was Jazzy Jeff and The fresh Prince and NOT just plain Will Smith! - hehe yeah, dunno how many times that poor dude got thrown out.

You own any cassettes. - yeah been about 5 years since i listend to them tho

My Little Pony, Gummy Bears and Transformers are familiar to you. - Transformers was really kewl but i liked the bad guys better, they looked much cooler. And to be 100% honest i still have the gummy bears song on mp3

You believed that "By the power of Greyskull, you HAD the power!" - hehe spent many hours fighting with my friends about who that really was he-man

You spent hours in the basement building and re- building Lego cities. - actually i preferd knights lego better, and somehow i always won the fights. Could be that i was always fighting "with myself".

If you ever owned Polly Pocket or Micro Machines. - some micro machines yes

You were led to believe that in the year 2000 we'd all be living in space. - couldnt be much more accurate.

You never questioned why the A-Team were always imprisoned in places that had sufficient tools to build an armoured tank. - , well when watching that series again when older the thing that suprises me was that so many shots got fired per episode and none did ever hit, talk about bad luck...

Trains in Wales went "Pshh-t-cuf, pshh-t-cuf, pshh-t-cuf, pshh-t-cuf, pshh-t-cuf". - hehe i called motorcycles "oooollooooooommmmmmm" because i thought they sounded like that.

When 'Computer' Tennis, Pac-Man and Donkey-Kong ruled - still does

You remember when 25p was decent pocket money and you'd reach into a muddy gutter for 10p. - i did think money in bubblegums, "now i have 5Skr thats about 10 bubblegums! kewl!

hehe

God, thanks alot Cat.  Now I feel all old and crap.  By the way, do you happen to remember The Ghostbusters?  I loved those guys.  I used to watch the movie and the cartoon   (which I now realize was pretty corny).  And Michael Jackson, well he's a lost cause now but I remember when he looked normal, unfourtionatly he was never really normal in the head.  Yeah I can answer yes to just about every one of those.  And I still have my legos.  I even take them out every now and then just for fun.

I had Hordac, Leech, Multi-something, and the evil horde headquarters. I also had the snake mountain but never skeletor, he looked like a sissy.

I still have 2 boxes of transformers in my old room at my momīs, and of course I have grimlock in the bookshelf where I live now.

And I told my mother, "no you cant use that wardrobe for sheets.. thatīs where my lego spaceships are, and theyīre very fragile.

And what about star wars toys? I have the millennium falcon, and a bunch of other stuff.. always wanted a tie fighter, accidentally dismembered darth vader, and lost my favourite action figure Chewbacca.. aww he was so cool. I even have the ice monster, and he can really pack a punch if you pull his arm far back and release it on an unexpecting luke.

I always wanted an amiga, but was stuck with my c64.

I actually thought "V" was cool, and David Hasslehoff didnīt make me wanna throw up.

But...
Dirty Dancing *IS* a cool movie. In fact, it RUELS. Do not doubt itīs makeout powers.. hehe =) Every boy should own a copy.

An donīt mess with me.. cause I got Scorponoc, and heīs a robot, a scorpion, and a Military base, and heīs almost 2 feet tall. Oh yeah and his head is a robot too =)

I remember a lot of those things! How 'bout parachute pants? and those dorky headbands?

Talk about old... I told this sixteen year old that I used to be crazy over Rick Springfield and she is like "Who is that?" That is when I really felt old.

I have plenty of old cassettes lying around too. Still listen to most of them.

One thing I remember most is the big hair everybody had to have. Does anyone remember watching H.R Puffinstuff or Sigmund, the Sea Monster? This may not be eighties though.

Hey, what about L.A.Law? I remember trying to sneak into the livingroom to watch that (wasn't allowed to, watching the re-runs now, I don't really understand why, though...) after bed-time.

And gummybears, they were called something else in Norway, but they were the ones with that juice they had to drink and lots of jumping around, right?

And I think all who were young in the eighties at some point yearned to own a "dancing coke can"...

And haven't y'all forgot G.I.Joe? I spent countless hours with my friends beating the crap out of those poor action figures...

And some trading cards called "Garbage Gang" or something...

Maradona, Lineker, John Barnes...

Salvatore Schilachi (yeah, I know that was '90, but still)

One for the scandinaves: "...hoppas at ni inte somnar om igjen, i Skandinavien, i Skandinavien..." Skurt rules!

And the hockey haircut (short on top, longer in the neck, it was a sight!)... unforgettable

Billy Idol, Wham, Culture Club, Eurythmics, Kim Wilde, Guns'n'Roses, Samantha Fox, Europe (I know everyone's sick of it now because of endless re-mixes and over-playing, but Final Countdown was the soundtrack of my childhood (I own the LP)), and last, but not least, VANILLA ICE!!!

I remember each year waiting for the Sears catalogue, waiting to see the new Star Wars action figures.
I remember how shocking and revolting were the "Twisted Sisters"
I remember the hours I spent with my G.I. Joe action figures
I remember when I was little, wating to be the president of Canada (there is no president in Canada, we have a prime minister) but when Reagan got shot, I forgot about my career in politics
