I forgot about this again 
Watching episodes on episodes now, on number 6 at the moment.
Pyrrha or Pyra or whatever heavily reminds me of Tsubaki from Blazblue, currently my favourite character. Rifle-spear and shield, cool as well.
Nora is amazing fun as well.
PS teacher confirmed for having small round glasses, anime rules dictate that he is auto-evil.
EDIT:
Finished all of them up to 16.
Penny feels kinda like a mix of Tekken's Alisa and Nu-13 from Blazblue.
Half expected her to go "MURAKUMO ACTIVATE, DEPLOYING PETAL BLADES" and go slaughter mode. Which she kinda did o___O

Ruby is way too naive so far but she's two years younger so inexperience can be forgiven.
Yang is a total siscon but got to love her attitude to everything. Plus totally awesome fighting style.
Weiss is your typical sobby rich girl but at least she's done pretty well. Also, space jumping ftw.
Blake is way too butthurt about her past. Get over it already drama queen.
Also, Penny was totally a copy of Nu-13.
The monkey is a decent guy so far.
Robin, roman, whatever, kinda fail for not being able to beat some kids. But hey, at least he dresses proper.
Jaune the hidden falcon punch, will be so sacrificed later to save the rest from a horrible situation. Or at least he will try to be sacrificed.
Pyra is such a failure of a powerhouse, she was introduced as this superstar genious and now she's totally second rate.
The friend duo was introduced as generally too strong kickass with broken personalities so they need to stay on the sidelines or be limited by their psychoses somehow.
Next arc about the tourney?

So, I watched the first character promos again (and the whole of season 1) and it dawned upon me that we still know nothing about Ruby and Yang. I mean, Blake had a whole story around her and Weiss got some back story development too (explaining the whole loneliness theme in her promo), but that's it.
Judging by Ruby's promo and the opening credits, I guess her mother is dead and that that's what made her want to become a huntress. Guessing her mother was one as well. And Yang? We know nothing about her. I'm guessing that she and Ruby have different mothers, hence the different surnames. In her promo Yang was looking for a girl. Of course, it could have been Ruby, but I have my doubts.
A whole season went by and we still barely know some the main characters. I demand more!

The lyrics of red like roses part 2 seem to suggest that much. I'm sure we'll learn more soon.
Her uncle Qrow seems to still be in a team or at least in action, I bet he's an interesting guy  And then we have the tournament to look forward to. I want to see Pyrrha in action.
