I'll try here as well. I'm getting this error when trying to run the map editor after the new update. This is done through Wine on Mac.

Any possible solutions or suggestions? I've tried reinstalling but that doesn't do the trick. Thanks in advance.

You have multiple occurences here.
1. Very bad O.S. that will never have proper support from its maker, ever again.
2. Your filing system seems to not jive with much newer coding made by the modder of this game.
3. You can not have a beta build for an editor without ending up with major editing errors(version 0.0 beta 38).
4. Your HDD might have physical bad sectors here and there that causes reading clusters unaccessible by the editing program.
5. You can not have a seed number at 0 as for the RMG's seed address as it will not recognize its own map format and objects randomly spread onto it.
6. I do not think that you even have a proper ERA mod .exe file. Make sure the HD+ interface makes you an .exe main game file in these kinds of looks: ERA_.exe or ERA_HD.exe or ERAHD.exe.
My main recommendation is: Get yourself a much newer PC that has a minimum of a Windows 8.1 of an O.S. and that the Storage Drive has plenty of space to read and write any data it gets to store onto itself.

Thanks. But like I said it's on a Mac. It doesn't matter if I mimic Windows 8.1 or Windows XP or whatever; I still get the same crash.
The map editor worked fine with HotA 1.4.2. I don't know why I run into this "critical error" now. I have free storage so that shouldn't be a problem.
I'm at a loss.
(Yes, it would have been better to have a PC.)

Did you download hota 1.5.0. by launcher or external setup file?

External setup from Google drive.
It works for my brother who downloaded the same setup file. Although he has Windows so I guess Mac/Wine is the problem. No idea how to fix it though...

Reinstalling from scratch is always recommended in case of problems, especially if installation was made over previous version.
Moreover, using full installer with HD mod significantly reduces potential risk of running into same problems again (uninstall all previous versions first then reinstall HotA into empty folder): Link.
Good luck!

graphics/
something minor i've noticed about previous releases, and the 1.5 release: many of the ocean/water objects don't have animated surf.
also, but only in 1.5, many shadows for the objects are flawed(i see it doesn't happen while playing hota, but extracting the graphics and viewing them for yourself display 4-5 different pink shadow hues, instead of just the traditional dark and light pink). my only guess is, you guys were able to tweak the shadow color boundaries, to have more complex shadows? correct me if i'm wrong.
and as always, guys, spectacular work. i always look forward to seeing new releases.

Newer water object has the special animation, technically implemented in the game code.
Yes, HotA supports more complex shadows for map objects.

In case you're using Wine then verify its version. HotA 1.5.0 requires 2.21 or later version. Quote from main topic:Quote: I uninstalled everything wine related (I was using stable-2.0.2). And then reinstalled the latest version I could find (staging-2.21). Now everything works

Hi, I've tried that but doesn'y seem to have made a difference? although I'll be the first to admit I don't know what I'm doing with wine etc...

Did you try the Staging branch of 2.21? I didn't try the stable version but since installing this I've had no problems thanks to the tip in the other thread. Good luck!

The only thing I can think of is that I haven't uninstalled & reinstalled wine properly; do you have to do anything particularly complicated when you uninstall? I thought I'd got rid of wine/wine tricks/playonlinux but perhaps I didn't uninstall them properly?

2.14 staging works, too. (I was the one who first suggested they update wine).
I suspect either staging branch has a feature that hasn't mainstreamed or something in 2.1-stable fixes it. using 2.1x+ staging is probably the safest bet.
edit: if you're using playonlinux you can set which version of wine to use per prefix - just go to 'configure' and then change wine versions from there.

Yeah, I've tried running on the latest wine, it doesn't seem to make any difference. Seeing as it works for everyone else, I'm guessing either I'm doing something wrong, or I have a seperate problem

The HD mod is a different mod, apart from HotA. If you want the HD mod, you will have to download it separately. The two are attuned to work together quite nicely .
