Quote: If you have a corrupt government, a large portion of the Euro-funds will sink into black holes and never reach their intended recipients. The big Euro-financed projects will probably be given to companies "friendly" to the current government and foreign executives which have paid their ways through the procedures.
I can't agree with that. Every cent from UE funds is checked 5 times and they all go for profitable investments. The Poland has been greatest benefiter of EU, and out of tens of thousands sponsored investments, only a few turned out to be a failure.
This is how technocracy wins corruption.
EU delivers standards which make sure that to government, their family and their dog can't do whatever they want with the money and the law. Everything is controlled by independent people.

It's very true what Zenofex said, except maybe the part of small businesses. I work in a small business right now, and we thrive. But that depends on the business branch you're in.
all those "mom&pop" type stores are dissappearing yea. but various craftsmen don't have it so rough. Even when IKEA opened up my boss didn't worried about not getting any customers.

It is also number one reason people in rich countries like Finland don't like EU.
We pay Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Greece, Ireland and the gang to pump their economy and in the process kill jobs from our own country/ies.
The forestry industry had a really hard hit because of the Euro. The whole agriculture sector is dwindling. Industry has left to cheaper EU countries. There are very few positive factors to the EU and the numbers are far into the red.

You can't fool me! Everyone knows that you can't farm on the tundra and you can't cut down finnish forests because of the risk of polar bear attack. The only finnish industries worthy of noting are knife smithing and Moomin Troll gladiator games...

well as part of a company that makes custom furniture I can't complain about bad business.
But IKEA does make nice yet cheap furniture which is nice. Bought some shelves from the place they're pretty good. but only because there wasn't scrap pieces at my work big enough to make them myself.
Nah, gardening isn't really my thing. I do need a stable boy to take care of my uncle's horse. you'll do good.

LOL.
93% to join Russia by Russian exit poll. Percentage of people who voted is unknown, Crimean pseudo-government claims it is about 80%, Crimean Tatars estimated to 40%. Also there are facts, that Russian citizens, who live in Crimea were allowed to vote.
The referendum officially not recognized by western countries. Russia next to move.

Okay, ukraine is officially going to hell now. Remember when they decided to instill a national guard of around 60k volunteers last week?
Well they've ordered partial mobilisation of around 40k reserves. Half of which are going into forming up the national guard.
Now if "volunteer" national guard isn't bad enough. Get this the official statement names defending the borders, strenghtening security and *drumroll* eliminating terrorist groups as it's duty.
Seriously.
WHAT. THE. FUCK.

They will be deployed to eastern ukraine to deter any possible russian action there. It's the "National Guard" that's the issue. They will probably end up as "security" in all areas. With the way it's set up it's bound to end up as a paramilitary force. Oh we all love those don't we. Just ask the balkans how great idea that was.

If France flew over to take back Quebec, I wouldn't lift a finger in protest. If the rest of English Canada decided to fight back because they still haven't sucked our petroleum and minerals dry, and because the US will need Canadian farmers in 100 years or so when they fill up their country with fat walmart people, well, let them fight!
I'd say "serves you right for joining the army" but I do pity them a bit as well. Every army got this clause where if you refuse to fight you are a "deserter" and can end up in jail up to executed, which mean they can't really fight for the causes they believe in but for their master's whim, plain and simple.

Exactly the excuse that Russia needs to invade Eastern Ukraine, no? The difference from former Yugoslavia is that you have a veeeery big counter-force, quite eager to enter combat with every cuckoo that gives it a proper reason to dispose of all "no intervention" hurdles. If the interim government is THAT stupid to send de facto irregulars to "secure" Eastern Ukraine, it's toast.
Or, maybe they are not so stupid and want to force the Russians to invade...

I'm thinking(hoping really) that they will send the regulars to eastern Ukraine and have the national guard work as patrols in the rest of the country for extra security.
But yeah, the first time those groups get out of hand is like waving a huge "Please invade us" over Kjev.
Just form a militia out of them and place them in the army command structure with commanding regular officers at least. Forget this national guard free-for-all idiocy.

The beautiful thing about the paramilitaries is that they bring a dosage of excitement to the grey, depressing monotony of wartime, by effectively introducing a system of lottery where you can't predict whether you'll be the lucky winner of a robbery, pillaging, rape, torture, execution, or any combination of those.
They're also admirably fair in that whichever side you're presumably on, they'll probably f- you up anyway.

What's up, Ihor.
If it's any consolation, I know the feel, bro. My folks went out in the streets against Milosevic as well. The piece of shyte and his dynasty went down, and what we got was 12 years of unbelievably (and I'm not using the word lightly) corrupt partocracy as the ex-opposition, carried on the wings of heavy popular support and a pretty peaceful revolution all-in-all, settled in, fell apart and drained and indebted the country to the stone age. To the point that the people who were once in coalition with Milosevic (but are now, 14 years later, of course, the vanguard of democracy and European integration) won some 60% of the popular vote in the parliamentary elections yesterday.
Which is making me seriously consider applying for tending to that Kip's uncle's horse in the near future.
That is all, of course, not to say that my disillusionment should prevent attempts to get rid of dictators and their political leeches elsewhere in the world.
One thing is absolutely certain, however. The peak of the Kosovo crisis happened about a year before that. When the NATO knocked, we should've spread the cheeks opened the door. Instead, they bashed it in (which is a far less unpleasant metaphor now that I applied it to a door), took what they wanted, bombed the living shyte out of us and poisoned us with depleted uranium for decades to come. Along with us turning out to be the worst thing that happened to Europe since Hitler.
Well, all right, the Russians don't have mass media of that kind.
What they do have is tanks. And a far better position to go in by land than the 'Muricans did here.
All this said, I would, at any point in time and space, much rather choose the entire NATO, with all its auxiliaries, to bomb me a dozen more times, than one Russian action on foot.
No matter what national pride or patriotism or our sense of ethics or the principle of integrity or freedom or any such shyte tells us, we should all pretty much simply hope your leaders appreciate your lives more than Milosevic did ours, and are just oiling themselves up and waving their dongs at Putin hoping he's homophobic enough to piss off.
