I respectfully disagree, but I'm not even angling to play either of those, so i'll leave that. Can I ask for a caestus scaling with monk damage or is that eye-gougingly OP for you?
If not, I'll be running with a swordy dude.

My only concern with prohibiting the aforementioned classes is that you remove a great deal of magical and healing abilities from the game, which will make it a bit harder for the heroes to survive a lot of encounters, giving a "failure is the only option" vibe to the campaign.

Dragons at level 7? Good thing I asked...
I'm just going to flat out ask: would it bother anyone if I played a Paladin? I'd have Knowledge: Religion covered, and those mercies to remove fear effects looks so, so nice for a horror campaign...but if everyone else wants to play CE Fiendish demi-liches, obviously that won't work out, and I'll go with my second or third choice (Bard and Rogue, respectively).
And Dagoth what's a caestus? I did a search on the srd and all that comes up is a type of armor.

It's a fist weapon. I am basically asking for a way to upgrade the monk's flurry of blows, without getting those really expensive robes. But if gnomes thinks monks are fine as is, then I'll drop the subject.

@DG, that's fine. Monks need all the help they can get.
@OD, there are still plenty of ways to heal (potions, paladins, oracles, monks can heal themselves, bards get some healing, ring of lesser vigor (the ultimate in out of battle healing), etc, etc). I'm not too worried about accidentally murdering party members with the tier 1&2 classes banned.
@Kareeah... No liches will be in the party.

@Dagoth: Ahh, okay. The way you said it I thought it was a weird class that I was just not finding.
@Geny: Sounds good to me.
@Gnomes: I was in fact exaggerating for effect, although I think you know this already.
@all: Since we've got three religious classes in our party, should we work that into our collective backstory of 'how we got into this mess'? (Why we were sent to deal with that Trapmaster, etc?)
And if there are no objections, I'm going to hunt down an ideal deity for my Paladin...

I am ready.
I may ask for some 3rd party feats, gnomes. I have spent several hours on occasion to create an okay unarmed fighter. It was hard and I cried, but I think I am capable of creating the religious fists of fury, required to purge zombie scum. And if I prove inadequate, then I'll go out memorably, with my fists cracking zombie jaws.
I have a penchant for gods, relating to the sun, like Sarrenrae, but just pick whatever deity you like Kareeah. We could be some religious squad, protecting an inquisitor to deal with the contamination of evil that some Trapmaster may or may not have set up.

I found a list on wikipedia although I need to weed them for usefulness:
Quote: • Oghma (also called Curna):[17] God of knowledge, invention, inspiration, bards. True Neutral.
• Deneir, also known as "Lord of All Glyphs" and "The Scribe of Oghma", is the deity of literature, art, knowledge, glyphs, images, and cartography.
• Chih Shih: God of history, lore, tradition[35]
• Thoth (I): God of neutral magic, scribes, knowledge, invention, secrets
• Najm: God of adventure and curiosity[39][40][41]
• Zann: God of intelligence and learning[39][40][41]
• Aasterinian (D): Goddess of learning, invention, pleasure[20] also worshipped as an aspect of Hlal[19]
• Dugmaren Brightmantle (L): God of scholarship, invention, discovery
• Marthammor Duin (L): God of guides, explorers, expatriates, travelers, lightning
• Diirinka (I): God of derro, magic, cruelty, knowledge
• The Seeker (aspect of Shekinester): Curiosity, exploration, study[22]
• Murdane: Former goddess of reason, pragmatism. Slain during the Dawn Cataclysm.
There were possibly more; I didn't check the ones that just had names listed and no 'of X thing' afterwards.

The most likely god of knowledge for a good paladin to worship would be Mystra, the goddess of good, magic and knowledge. Otherwise, just a good god for a Paladin to worship is Lathander/ Anumator, the same god with two different personalities/ names. He's a god of physical strength, birth, healing and the sun, and he is the chief god of Good.
Edit: As for the trap master, he literally sent you guys letters over a few months that basically read "come get me" with the location of three dungeons in them. After the third one he personally tried to end you but basically got roflstomped because in person he was as dangerous as a triple amputee squirrel that just had a lobotomy.

While Lathander is indeed awesome, he doesn't quite fit the concept I have in mind: I want to do a paladin with a scholarly bent. But I didn't know Mystra got knowledge as well as magic; I think she'll do nicely.
Gnomes, what kind of territory were we traversing before we got sucked in, and how long had we been expecting the venture to take? It will matter if we're tracking food.

From what I understood, Inquisitors are cunning snows who travel the land, hunting infidels of their deities and are very suspicious of strangers. Therefore, it would be a bit strange, I think, if you were sent to help me unless we all worship the same deity (which I don't mind if we do).
Edit: Currently thinking about a Dwarf Inquisitor. Will that be ok?

Thinking of making a righteous fist of justice to Lathander. I am not picky about working with removing evil for the sake of other gods. I could just go as a mercenary type who wants to deposit fists and justice into faces for shared cash and the experience of punching people in the face.

Lovecraft meets Faerun. Sounds neat, but five's a crowd, so I'll sit back and watch you guys work your magic.
Which is a capricious wordplay, because you aren't really allowed to work magic.
By the way, Gnomes, the Void? Are we talking the Far Realm here?
Also, if you start having trouble porting this to the forums, which I predict you will, I recommend Fantasy Grounds. I used it with the RPG crew several times, has somewhat of a learning curve but works alright and feels pretty nice once you get the hang of it. For what experience I have to share, we hosted us an actual forum for our roleplaying needs back in the day, with dice functions and all, but as fine an idea as it was, it didn't quite catch on. Too slow, and causes a cluster**** when people start posting at the same time. We tried using an MSN mass conv where the people posting would go "posting", which introduced some orderliness, but we simply ended up downloading a dice roller plugin for the messenger and just RPing over it until we figured out Fantasy Grounds.
Or you can all simply send your sheets over to the DM and let him do all the numbers, while providing you with a storytelling experience. Which I personally prefer. I always gladly gave up on throwing my own dice in exchange for more immersion. I don't like knowing I failed a listen check - I like the ambush actually surprising me. As well as the DM describing the combat instead of going "Well, that's 6 damage." It's also a bit more of a challenge, considering you can't optimize AB buffs, power attack allocation etc.

I'm thinking heavy armor for my Paladin, is there any reason why I shouldn't? (Spell failure is just for arcane spells, yes? Does it apply to using magic items and the like?) And I'm tentatively planning a human, but I'm open for suggestions.
@Geny: I was thinking something like that organization that roots out Binders for us, maybe with a narrower spectra of alignments with the churches involved, but I don't have a problem running the same deity instead. In fact that would probably be simpler. Which deity were you aiming for in that case? Are we all doing Lathander?

@Kareeah: you would have brought food for the journey and then some extra food (maybe enough for a week or two) because the trap master liked to make his dungeons really big and obnoxious. Also, spell failure is arcane only, and the only disadvantage of full plate for you would be the reduction in movement speed. (The max dex nonus doesn't really matter to you... You're a paladin, dex is a dump stat. )
@Geny, you could have different gods as an inquisitor, so long as your gods are allies with one another. (Lathander and Mystra are basically brother and sister, so this should be fine as far as this game goes) And dwarf is a solid choice for any frontline fighter.
@DG, fists of raging justice?
@Bak, I'll answer your question when I have more time.

Unless you're a dwarf. Dwarf movement is unaffected by armor or encumbrance.
And DEX is a dump stat to the point where I'm no stranger to making one-legged redeemed-ex-pirate paladins.
Good times.
@OD
Similar with me. American time tables especially tend to be a pain due to the ~8 hour time difference. Wouldn't want to have to bail in the middle of the game.
