That's not quite correct. In AoW 3 you play Dark Elves when you play Elven ROGUE, not Necromancer.
While it would be possible to mod the Dark Elves as a full race into the game, it hasn't been done yet, afaik, because it would basically copy a lot of Rogue's "attributes", so that doesn't make much sense. A Dark Elven DWELLING would be evidently possible, though, with things like Night Guards, Blade Dancers and Black Widows.

They were some interesting races present in AoW 1-2 and omitted in AoW3 (damn, why didn't they make another expansion ). Lizardmen (yeah, we have Draconians but still), Dark Elves, Archons or Shadow Demons (but absence of those is dictated by the lore). So there's still a lot going for AoW 4

Ah of course, Triumph added a fully functional 'toybox' for modders with Steam Workshop support without the players needing to 'break the code apart'... AND RMG. AND supports the game over two years after its release with new patches clicky. Problem UbiLimbic?

Relevant to the AoW discussion: I still don't understand why AoW3 didn't get me hooked when I tried it out a few months ago. It looks amazing, has great reviews, playes smoothly. And still: after 30% of the first map was over, I kinda gave up on the game. Everything felt so... slow. Map progression felt slow, the towns were kinda bland and repetitive, skilling took ages and above all I found that battles took unnecessarily long to complete (complicated placement of armies, too many turns until you win). Is there a way to make the gameplay of AoW3 faster? Or am I just too used to the Heroes formula?

Maybe the latter. Although I liked AoW 3, I haven't gotten hooked by it either, mainly because I got a bit tired of it. Besides, when I played it, the game was a bit slow. I haven't tested in this new laptop of mine, so it could be a bit more interesting. But given that I didn't play AoW before that, I actually didn't know if the game was going to appease me at all. Still it certainly had a flair to my taste, although I think I was looking for a more Heroeish game in the end, which never came.

To be fair, AoW situation is different. They arent a big studio so they cant drop the game and make a new one after they milked it. They also got funding from the minecraft guy who was a fan so yeah. Also AFAIK their modding is limited to stuff already in game (which is plenty so it allows plenty of versatility but still)

I've been circling around H5.5 never getting my hands on it but I will get there eventually - maybe that's the problem, it feels like a last resort and I'm treating it that way..

Well ok, AoW, why not. It should deserve a chance atleast, that's what your impressions suggest so thanks, I'll check it out

to be honest with you, all this talk and arguing and guff, is way more than such a momentous failure of a game and team deserve lol

so, I do agree with those whining about the pointless cyclic discussions, all is said and done really and it's just a race to the bottom, so probably more mature to take pity on the usual suspects and let an echo chamber have its fun,

when support for the game ends (soon enough lol) I will make the effort to scale back my posting in this place and avoid upsetting deranged vocal minority, only posting where there is something novel to contribute (like to give somebody information or Vivendi takeover news and so on) lol

To be honest back at you, your posts here is what got me trough this entire enormous thread, not the brilliant humor but the quality of it all. Truth is an excellent weapon of choice dude, and you've been using it like a master for a very long time here, I wish it was recognized more 'cause it ain't some magical clairvoyant power it's just a common sense speaking out of you in a clear and often hilarious voice.
Even if I do have a soft spot for humor I always end up taking your points very seriously because they are clearly backed up, so whenever you get that tingling sensation to post something don't hold back

I'm not trying to make it sound like u are to be looked at as privileged, special or anything, it's more like your strong uniqueness has won a rightful place so just keep on doing whatever it is that you do man, it's brilliant and worthy of attention

Hey guys, you know that snow game Endless Legend from Amplitude? Turns out it's getting its fourth expansion. Game got a head start, being released in 2014, but I can't wait for Heroes 7 to catch up and show them!

You mean that snow-awful game without soul and flavor? Damn why can a guy even sink 100+ hours into this snow?

But on a serious note, can you send source? It's hard to find information on this game after Sega took Amplitude over and their forums disappeared...

I'd say AoW is less "user-friendly" than Heroes, I had to come back to it to appreciate it, but once you dwell good into the game is worth it. I miss townscreens though.

Hm, yes, that's one detail of 'immersion' I missed here and there. I felt like too much holistically present in that game. But, as you said, need to return to it yet after a fashion, now that I know H7 is not going to make it.

@PandaTar
I remember getting into AoW III only after the second try. At first the game somehow didn't appeal to me (didn't like the combat for instance). But I've read about it some more and gave it another chance. Sank 300+ hours into it... Tried Heroes 7 two times, don't want to touch it even with a stick...

@Stevie
Thanks! That's really great news about the DLC for EL. The new faction doesn't appeal that much to me aesthetically (although that Sea Monster unit looks interesting), especially after the really cool Allayi, but the DLC tackles probably the biggest of the games shortcomings - naval exploration/warfare. (and add some more interesting features liek weather effects). That was requested since they one. So even if late, you could say Amplitude delivered a feature that fans wanted, contrary to some other game devs we all know and love...
