Realistic or not, it still doesn't mean that they were wrong in gameplay decisions. For how much discussion was it needed to have them add those hero specialties depending on level they never did?
Anyone that desires realism in Heroes/Might & Magic games (that started from H6), well, is it that important? We got the Clash of Heroes that had cartoonish graphics. And two upcoming games,EG and Era of Chaos, also follow that art.
Personally, I'd prefer something vivid and alive, rather than focusing on realism, that has the vibe of Game of Thrones. Why would someone want realism that much, anyway? It's not like a lich or a wyvern are real, anyway.

Well, in all fairness, given that Heroes VI and Heroes Online take place during a time when Necromancers are still a part of the Seven Cities, I don't see why they made it full on Necropolis, spider-themed or not.
Wouldn't it be more appropriate to somehow try and mix Academy and Necropolis styles together? You know, more like an Academy city run by the undead? Definitely darker looking and much more ominous, but still unmistakeably the same walls?
We're told House Eterna used to be just another school of magic that emerged in the Seven Cities, but frankly, we never really see them function like one.

The spider obsession was stupid, but hardly the worst problem with H7. I felt the obsession with spikes on everything that could (and couldn't) hold them was much worse.

Where did the spider symbolism go wrong, anyway? It seemed just fine in Dark Messiah for example, where it was known as a part of the Necromancers' arcane, but wasn't shoved into their every sentence.
I'm actually going to go ahead and say that H7 was slightly better on that front than H6, except with the jarring examples of the town screen and turning Zoltan into a joke character...

Because the necromancers were atop their power in H7 or something. Hence why it was "justified" to have the entire town turned into a spider. Among other things.
