Do you have to play campaign first to unlock different heroes, or are them playable from the start for us that like scenario games?

I hope the game will feature more varied campaign maps (size/length wise). While I enjoy a good old humongous maps, I believe campaigns should have more shorter ones that serve as a break of pace between few big ones.

I believe H5 had it set up really good, while H6 had too many tedious maps.

Nope. Some of his relatives are likely to make an appearance in the Dungeon campaign though. But the campaign won't be about them.

Great!  Thanks.

+1, the campaigns sound great from what Marzhin hints

One field I hope you took a leson are Skirmish map settings.

-All "tavern heroes" available to choose from from the start
-RANDOM faction/hero option
-Choosing traits in the scenario setup rather than in the "dynasty" tab.
-Make the UI a bit more appealing
-Have an option to set alliances for hotseat
etc. (pleae add what you think I missed)

That's what I've tried to get an answer on in both QA and here, but no success yet.

It has already been done in Heroes VI, so I think it will stay in Heroes VII. I would add two more things:
- No more repeating maps for multiplayer from campaigns
- More scenarios that are independent from the campaign

Also, more dwellings on maps in general, especially for neutral creatures. There were a decent number in H3, but ever since then it started to decline.

They added a few in the H4 expansions, but in all honesty it was too little too late, imho.

So, this means they're now a shining beacon of all that is good in Ashan?

One thing I think is cool in Heroes 7 is that each campaign has its own tone and style. It makes them fun to write, and hopefully will make them fun to play

That's nice . The way the Council concept was introduced, with each member telling a story relevant to that members' faction history already hinted at this, but it's good to have another confirmation of this point. One of the bigger let-downs for me about the Heroes6 campaigns was that all campaigns revolved around one family, who had somehow not only scattered to the winds, but also all gained power over any of the five factions.

I think he meat that each neutral should have it's own dwelling. And if I remember correctly, not all neutrals in H IV expansions were recruitable.

The only recruitable ones were elementals and undead neutral units (Death Knights and Mummies) in some Necropolis missions.

Yeah that's what I meant. Having elements as only dwelling was dissapointing. Not saying that every map should have them, but a few wouldn't hurt as you can't get diplomacy all the time. H3 had Sharphooters, several dragons, trolls, rogues, nomads, peasants, enchanters, etc.

And peasants from hovels, leprechauns and satyrs from their respective dwellings. The carnivorous plant thing from the hothouse, the praying mantis from its dwelling, the pirate from the pirate island thingy dwelling, the troglodyte from its cave, the zombie from the graveyard (iirc), the troll from its lair, the evil eye from the eyestalk-thingy, the gargoyles from the parapet and more, I believe.

(EDIT: The Ice demon from the Ice Gate. There are also mermaids and the sea monsters, which I am not sure if have a dwelling or not. I think the mermaids have, but I'm not so sure about the sea monster.)

What happened was that a bunch of creatures (goblin knight, dark sorceress, frenzied gnasher, etc.) were added in TGS Expansion, and their dwellings were only added in the WoW Expansion, and the Megadragon never got a dwelling at all.

Sandro400,

I thank you for your answer.
As you know, is my firm conviction that the two most important elements in the Heroes of Might and Magic formula are gameplay and atmosphere, each of equal importance. Of course people criticized gameplay when MMH6 went out, and now people criticize visuals in MMH7. Although, no one really said anything especially negative regarding atmosphere before Necropolis reveal, quite on the contrary IIRC. Well, there was the Haven townscreen too.
So yes, when one side of the formula lacks the other one, people wonder why there is no money going there. Sometimes I find there is an amalgam being made between someone’s right to be outraged and a hater who is simply going to hate.

Aesthetically speaking, weren’t everyone satisfied with the NWC approach? Feel free to correct me but, aside from the new generation I’ve never heard any complaint regarding Heroes II or Heroes III visuals. Even if the switch from the hand-drawn art of II to the pre-rendered one of III had his share of critics, you can instantly tell these two games belongs to the same franchise, even if you never played them at all. Heroes V, well that was quite a change though. I think the situation where most remains satisfied regarding that particular issue is the one where same amount of passion and money will be invested in regard of the game. When a franchise is this is big and has that reputation (which seems to be decreasing ever since roughly 2005), I want to fight for a better investment from the company in regard of the developers. Meaning, enough money to fulfill both aspects of the game. In my idealism, I would add the golden rule of respecting JVC’s vision. Nevertheless, I disagree with your proposition, as the gorgeous beauty of NWC games never stopped modders to add their own.

A special song I sing for the world of Ashan.

If I had to live my life without you (Ashan)
The days would all be joyful
The nights would seem so short
Without Ashan I see forever, oh, so clearly
I might have been in love before
But it would never have felt this strong

Our dreams are young and we both know
They'll take us where we want to go
Hold me now, touch me now
I don't want to live with you any longerrrr

Nothing's gonna change my hate for you
You oughta know by now how much I hate you
One thing you can be sure of
I'll never ask for more than your end

Nothing's gonna change my hate for you
You oughta know by now how much I hate you
Your world may change my whole life through
But nothing's gonna change my hate for you

If the road ahead is not so easy
Our hate will lead the way for us
Like a guiding star
I'll never be there for you if you should need me
You would have to change a thing (or thousand)
I hate you just the way you are now

So come with me and share the view
I'll help you see forever too
Hold me now, touch me now
I just want to live without you

Nothing's gonna change my hate for you
You oughta know by now how much I hate you
One thing you can be sure of
I'll never ask for more than your destruction

Nothing's gonna change my hate for you
You oughta know by now how much I hate you
Your world may change my whole life through
But nothing's gonna change my hate for you

Galaad

I definitely agree about those two elements of the formula. But the atmosphere (for me) isn't just about visuals. Music, arts, map design, loveable characters, creatures etc. And for some reason I see more rage towards lich's and vampire's style than rage about the possibility of having a living unit in Necro. Quite a paradox. And people weren't so dissapointed with them back in H6.
That's why I say we should try to be rational and prioritize things.

About NWC's approach. Well, I think there're two points.
1. Firstly, we should consider the time when H2-3 were released. I dare say that Heroes dominated TBS market back in 1999. There was nothing like it, it was unique. And fantasy games were just raising their popularity. Much of its "canons" weren't established as well (mind you, Tolkienish Elves became staple after LotR film trilogy, even though the book existed for a while). H3 was gorgeously looking for its time as well and there was nothing to compare to in its genre. You may call it "first impression".
2. Secondly, it is my firm believe that nostalgia plays a huge role in all this. You may call it a cheap excuse, and I won't even deny it, but it doesn't mean I'm not right. If we had H7-style BEFORE H3-style we would be having discussion about H3's horrible art-style and factions being just random bunch of creatures with no uniting theme. And haven't you noticed that newcomers generally love the new Ubi-Heroes while old fans generally don't approve it so much? Its not by chance.
I surely share your feelings about Heroes title, but sadly, TBS are slowly losing ground against RTS and actually, strategies themselves are not such a big part of the gaming market anymore. They're losing against online games, RPG, Assassin's Creed-style games etc. Disciples, for instance, died - and this time probably died a true death.
Iirc, back in H6 Heroes no longer were AAA title (like AC), I doubt the situation changed. Sure it has its reputation as "king of the TBS", and H6 commercial success partly owes to that reputation. But Heroes title isn't so wide-known as you may think.
And if its not an AAA title anymore, I guess it can't have really big budget. I'm not saying its small, just not huge. Maybe after H7 it may once again become hit.
But I would like to thank you for being constructive and polite in our discussion, not many times I have such honorful conversations on the internet.

Rakshasa92 hey mate, you even composed a song for Ashan. Some psychiatrists will tell that deep inside yourself you actually like Ashan!

dear devs, i notice you really love game of thrones, but please dont over do it by putting symbol animals in all line ups, making missions all about family stuff with no real evil or real good in it. please also add some classical tolkien stuff too, some real evil/good characters or not-family related heroes.. please dont just make it %100. erwan is still mentioning game of thrones, even in h3hd stream, please someone hold him about this. lol.
