If this would be problem for only multiplayer community, then there should be no problem with that.
However this not only affects MP but also replayability in general and this is a huge problem.
If skill system will be very familiar to Heroes 6's, as fans who were at Paris event suggest, then I don't know what lessons did Ubi/Limbic learn from Heores 6.

Most creatures in H3 didn't have special abilities you say? That's nonsense. It is true that, they didn't have ACTIVATED abilities, apart from few examples, but most units had their own ability or 2.
Let me pick faction .... Haven:
- Pikemen/Helberdier - Immune to jousting
- Marksmen - double shoot
- Griffin - unlimited retaliation
- Crusader - cleave(?) / two attacks (?)
- Monk (I'm not sure, I think he had no melee penalty - but that's not that special anyway)
- Champion - Jousting
- Angel - Hates Devils / Archangel - Ressurection (activated ability)
You notice most creatures have special ability. While some are a bit useless (immune to jousting), those are usualy on tier 1 creatures. These abilities are made in a way it promotes certain play with units (Griffin - you go forth and let enemy attack it, Champion - you must attack enemies further away to do more damage...)
But let's pick one more faction ... since Dread Knights were listed as exception ... Necropolis (this shall be good):
- All units have Undead special abilities, those listed are on top of that, If no ability, then they still have Undead:
- Skeleton - none /undead
- Zombie - Disease attack
- Wight - Regeneration + Mana drain
- Vampire - Life drain + no enemy retaliation
- Lich - Death cloud of death
- Dread Knight - Curse + Double damage
- Skeletal Dragon - Reduce enemy morale + Aging attack (reduces hp of entire stack, making them very easy to kill with Dread Knight)
Imo in H7 they ae going more with this system of mostly passive abilities, that would make each unit play in a certain way, with fewer active abilities, but still more than H3
um pikeman was not immune to jousting,they were just regular level 1 creatures,but you are right about the rest
Generally every faction had 1-2 creatures that had no ability at all,many creatures didn't have an ability unless they were upgraded either.

So true. I will also ask; What the heck is the problem today? For some mysterious reason, it seems it is not easy for a new game to be created with both player-modes in mind. I'm seeing the same battle in my other game.
<imo> Since HoMM pre H6 games were close to having things right, today we should be seeing a win/win instead of always fearing the worst.

Devs forgot to type it down on their description, but Pikeman & Halberdier are indeed immune to jousting in h3.
Just like the Badge of Courage gave immunity to mind spells, on top of the +1 morale effect.

They used the spider-themed Necropolis quite well in Heroes Online, Clash of Heroes or Dark Messiah... They should take their inspiration from those three, I think.

while I also hate the way skills were done in h6, I think it won't be nearly as bad since the spells got moved back to the magic guild.

that's just one small part of the h6 skill-system that was bad. the whole thing was pretty snow, not just the magic part. i'm not sure people (or the developers) are aware of this.
