Poll Question: Do you like elves and dwarves having their own faction?
This subject came up in the Discussion Thread and I thought it would be interesting to make a poll about it. I hope this is the right place to.
Options 1, 2 and 3 should be pretty clear, as for the fourth, I had in mind Heroes IV, where dwarves fought among mages and archers were the only elf creature in the beautiful nature army -of course, I don't mean to have the same lineups, but to repeat the idea of having them not as a single race town but as units in other, not necessarily together.
So, what do you like the most?

I voted yes, because elves and dwarves being separate factions, as well as a clear division between all races, is a really interesting lore element of Ashan, a thing that made it stand out between all the worlds of previous HoMMs. Even though I voted for Sylvan to be included in HoMM7 vanilla, I wouldn't hesitate to buy an expansion with Fortress.

No. I prefer the older system where a faction revolved around what type of hero you could recruit and not a specific race.

+1
Although Ashan version could benefit from having more beasts, spirits, constructions and such...

yes. Anyone who votes no are purists (not an insult).
Dwarves and Elves are too big to be a single unit in a faction, you know what I mean?

No, I would like them to join as in H2-H3. It was more unique that way and left space for more factions

I like theme based factions better than race based ones, because it encourages more diverse and unique creatures, rather than different versions of the same type; for instance walking X, shooting X, riding X, huge X, magic X, flying X, etc.
Personally I would prefer to have elves and dwarves in different factions, but I'm not completely against the H3 solution either. I found it a bit boring to have a whole faction of dwarves and two with elves, as in H5.

Dwarves and Elves in the same faction is simply not compatible with the current world of ashan, so no. ::shrug::

Exactly, I never understood why game content should be compromised because of some arbitrary "lore" that one basically has to research separately in order to even know about (especially for people who don't like to play campaigns). I wish they could base the lore on the game and not vice versa.

Other games trample the lore in favor of gameplay, and they got good lore... while Ubisuck has this garbage they call lore and they respect it like a saint...

Dwarves and Elves in the same castle always annoyed me in H1/2/3. Being a long-time pen-and-paper player, I've grown with the opinion that both races despise each other, just not enough to declare war on each other. And tbh, NWC's dwarves looked more like Snow White's dwarves than warmongers

It's true, and I like them that way. Most of the charm NWC games for me was that you could imagine your creatures and cities outside the war, it made the world feel alive (and granted more design freedom).
Now they are your usual tolkinian rip-off. Booooooring

Thats probably the most important comment. While many of the NWC/3DO creatures were taken from the mythology, they were used in unique way. In H5+ the game lost a lot of its original charm and became just turn based fantasy game. To much of it corespondent with Tolkien's Middle Earth (nothing bad in it, but we already have many games/novel/movies/etc. inspired by them) and other games like Warcraft.
Great games series never skip part of their older view, and ruining this and much more destroyed part of the atmosphere, which was typical for the series.
I would not be thinking this, if they were using another game, and not "Heroes".

What?
Part one if you would like to call Ashan dwarves a rip-off of something, it would have to be Warhammer, not Tolkien.
Part two, H2 was the most Tolkien inspired heroes ever.
Part three, if you cant imagine a world depicted with huge cities, mines and landscape without the conflict, the problem is not in the world but in you.
Part four. The people who think H1-3 was original in any kind of way are hypocrites who only to know or want to talk about this game and not the fantasy culture of that era. These old heroes games were based on fantasy stereotypes of that time. They shared this with all the media fantasy projected itself into. Books (see any Gamebook by Jackson & Livingstone), RPG games (D&D), Board Games (Talisman 1st and 2nd edition, Old Magic cards). It was not original at all and people who say this are just blinded by nostalgia.
So right now a more Warhammer inspired style is popular (you can thank Warcraft for this), big deal. I wouldn't personal care if we would have 9 factions of re-colored beastmen models as long as the gameplay is OK.
So please stop complaining that Ubi tries to make their lore coherent. Most of you don't care for it anyway so just let it go.

Personally, for me it makes it more engaging to have the races separated into their individual societies. I can imagine Elves forming a society (and hence a faction) and Dwarves forming a different society (and hence a different faction). Heroes 2 or 3 "fairy" town, however charming it was, were much more abstract and non-sensical to me.

Heroes 5+ makes factions have a sense of identification and organization, something the old Heroes game lack.
Give me Dwarves and Elves in every game and I will never be bored with them. Dwarves and Elves will never grow old.
