Battle of the Bluebirds - The Phoenix / Magic Bird issue
So, we now have if not final then at least official preliminary artworks for both the Magic Bird and the Phoenix, and if I had been afraid before that they would be similar to each other, I still have to say that what we see now is worse than I expected:
So please share your oppinions, what do you think - is Phoenix and Magic Bird too similar, or am I just prejudiced? If Phoenix gets voted in, should developers find another champion for Academy instead of Magic Bird?

People should read creature descriptions before judging preliminary artworks
12. PHOENIX
The Phoenix is one of the most powerful spirits of Light. It embodies the primal life-force, indomitable, and ever-reborn. A young Phoenix is recognizable to its silvery feathers that scholars interpret as a sign that the Phoenix channels some of its Primordial powers from Asha herself. However, as it grows older and more powerful, the sacred bird loses its silver feathers and grows a golden and blazing plumage.
If a Phoenix dies in the material world, its spirit materialises again as a rejuvenated Phoenix, who moves with the zest and velocity of a shooting star. During this "rebirth" process, a part of its original power is instantly subsumed into the pure light. It is for this reason that, although this miracle is quite an amazing sight, it is something best viewed from a distance.

Maybe they're both Prime creatures linked to Asha. Just sayin'...
Art looks ridiculously similar, and the H7 Phoenix compared to H6 it's like complete copy-paste.

They are blue chickens. Devs shouldn't change the Arcane Bird, they should bring Sylanna's Fury into Sylvan and that will be it No blue Chickens

As long as the unupgraded Phoenix isn't too blue and it won't be mistaken with Magic Birds, my answer is NO.
Gameplay wise should be very different of course.

People see what they want to see. If some people want to see these two birds as similar they will see them regardless of artwork, description, etc. Arcane Bird is blue, while Phoenix will be silver and golden.
I do not know why is there madness about the two birds in two different factions, yet they voted for 3 humanoid elves in one faction + we do not if Dryad will be presented like a humanoid or not. It appears fans have double standards, one for the birds and one for the humanoids.

Because having 7 creatures of the same colour on the same faction (upgrades included) is comparable to TWO units of different factions, and only talking about unupgraded units. Right?
Just drop it, Stevie.

Yes there is certainly huge difference between humanoids and birds. The whole point with humanoids is that they form societies and attain different specializations - that's why it makes sense to have several humanoids in the same faction, as long as they fill different roles (melee, ranged, caster, mounted, etc.). Humanoids in their different societies associate with different magical beasts, and we want these magical beasts not to be the same to give each faction their individual characteristics. That's why I think it's a problem when two factions have a champion that looks to me almost like carbon copies of each other.

Well didn't Elvin at some point say that Stronghold will see the return of two old champions ...?

This actually sounds quite interesting and also explains a bit why heroes V phoenixes are red and heroes VI ones are blue
Still, spirit of light wouldn't spirit of fire make more sense, as they are giant flaming birds...
I still don't think they fit in Sylvan though. Why not replace the magic bird with the phoenix?

Because that would actually make sense in more ways than one. We must keep the trend of having nonsensical things like creatures in line-ups they don't have ties with.

That picture of Phoenix is actually quite good. I still don't like the unit itself, and don't think that it should be in Sylvan at all, but at least this Phoenix is the best I've seen so far from any game.

I think I see what may have happened here,
the blue Bird is possibly supposed to be a kind of tribute to the Roc of Heroes 2, but of course it has only ended up pissing fans off or confusing them because it's not actually a roc (I have no idea why not, but maybe because they've already linked the Thunderbird to another faction in H6), and because the reworked tier system means it's now on par with the phoenix, and because the phoenix is now blue as well
in other words a bunch of seemingly unrelated lore changes they've imposed on themeselves are conspiring against them here to potentially give us two lame blue birds, LMAO
nobody batted an eyelid to have two powerful bird creatures in Heroes 2, because they were very clearly distinct, but the way Ubisoft managed to write themselves into a corner here sucks
