Firstly I don't give a snow about what the orientation of the faction will be. Offensive, Defensive or sth in the middle, it doesn't matter. I vote for a faction mostly because of it's line-ups, specific units and overall "feel".
If you ask me I voted for Sylvan not because of the Elves, but because it has some of my favorite creatures like Unicorns (which are endangered of not being in the final game actually) or Green Dragons. Plus, starting from H3 (with H4 being a kinda an exception), Rampart/Sylvan had a little bit of this Native Indian theme which I also like...
You see Dwarfurious I'm not against the dwarves. But a faction made up entirely from dwarves is too boring. It negates the point of a Heroes game for me: to have a mixed army of mythical and fantastical creatures plus some humanoid units. With the exception of Magma/Lava Dragons, Fortress in H5 was too dwarf oriented...
I'm not a fan of generic factions: Humans, Orcs, Elves and Dwarves are boring for me, I mostly like them because of those few "monster" units each of them harbors. If it weren't for Dragons, Behemoths, Minotaurs, Hydras etc Heroes franchise would not be as attractive for me, and who knows, maybe I wouldn't even be a fan of it...
I understand your frustration, maybe the fault lies in the devs that they didn't show us a concept of both Sylvan and Fortress line-ups before the vote? Apart from Unicorns and Dragons (plus Stags and Phoenixes maybe, Treant is also okay) those potential Sylvan line-ups are full of so-so creatures for me. I don't give a crab about any of the Elven units (though I understand at least few are a must). On the other hand, maybe Fortress had some interesting units to show? Who knows...
That's my point of view on the matter and you're free too have you own

I'll be asking Limbic if they had three Fortress line ups prepared as well, i'll share what I can learn. Many unit concepts could of been used, such as Battle Boars, or Gorgons, Basilisks, or simple mechanical siege weapons. It just doesnt make sense for an Empire faction to rely on so many beasts though, it'd be like Inferno having non-demons. Makes sense for Academy and Sylvan and Stronghold, but adds variety of every faction isnt the same way.
Basilisk with a Flame Cannon, come oooon, its a petrifying gaze that'll set you ablaze >O<

I know what you mean, but you can always throw in some "humanoid good races" or creatures associated with valor, courage and strength to spice things a bit. Take MtG for reference. Wouldn't it be interesting to see things like Loxodons (Elephant-people) or some kind of Lion-riders etc? I know, maybe they don't exactly fit into Heroes universe, but you get my point...

They did mention Valkyries as a possible Champion unit, but no idea how they'd look, clothed in fire or even female, who knows. It befits Elves to rely on nature to fight for them, it befits dwarves to fight their own battles. Dark Dwarves though would make a cool "Forge" Faction, let them be the machine guys

That picture shows, it's great we got Sylvan! Just imagine dwarves and demons in one game. Both fiery races... that would be utterly stupid.
Shame though, that valkyries are not part of Haven...

Stormcaller said: Never understood people who find dwarves boring. How can you dislike bearded ale masters? Anyone who's into warhammer fantasy knows that dwarves have epic siege weapons, super advanced technology, axes, crossbows, rune magic and many more.
How in the wolrd some plain shooty, lean dandy elves are so damn popular?
We could have had this
But no, must have Elf of might and magic seris. Those of you that vote for dungeon in next voting I'll personally throttle.
One thing you seem to have missed is that the only time dwarves ever got their own town, it was not full of magitek.

We had dwarves and inferno in homm5 and it was perfectly fine. And instead, now we will have two goddamn races of elves, cause I'm quite sure Dungeon will win over Inferno.
@Matt-Dwarves are established in wider fantasy lore as technologically advanced race, which means it would be no issue for them to adopt guns and siege weapons, just look at the pic from warhammer fantasy.
If Wizards can, Dwarves can certainly as well.

I don't have problems with that picture at all, most of the people are complaining and I can't really see why. Valkyries and Giants as Champions would be cool as they are quite different from each other, definitely better than one more Dragon.
And I like more "elemental" Giants than those that really look like big Dwarves.

To me the problem is it still looks like a Giant Dwarf, not a Giant per se.
But I still could live with them, provided Core & Elite creatures had some beasts & mech.

It's Giant Dwarf... again. Seriously, these Fire Giants are born when some Dwarves climb on erupting volcano. These who survive, are blessed by Arkath and become Fire Giant... but they still are Dwarves in core.
And about Valkyries - they are fire spirits born from souls of fallen Dwarves. So they are female, spirit Dwarves.
Talk about originality in Ashan.

It still isn't a Dwarf, it is completely new unit. You can always simplify things up to the point that they look bad.
I don't want to talk about originality and Ashan in the same sentence, those don't get along together.

So Horseman, Swordbearer or Inquisitor are also new units and are not Humans anymore?
Or like Defender, Spearwielder, Bear Rider, Brawler, Rune Priest and Thane in H5 weren't Dwarves too?
New unit would be a race of Giants allied with Dwarves or Yeti from Deep Mountain connected with Shanriya Nagas in DoC , but here we have Fire Giants which are Dwarves by origin.

All of the units that you've listed are still from the same race(except for Thanes, and I am not sure what they are) so I don't know how that helps your argument.
If you want to compare Giants to something, compare them to the Orcs for example. Orcs were Humans that were experimented on with Demon Blood by Wizards and they were changed to Orcs that is considered to be new race... so, those Dwarves that are blessed by Arkath are turned into something else, they aren't Dwarves anymore.

They are the same case as Thanes - Dwarves who grow up a little but they are still Dwarves, only now their skin is bazalt and their beards are on fire (well, all Dwarves can have beards on fire, if they are angry enough).
They aren't even reborn as new creature - they just lucky ones who survived volcanic eruption and that's all.

Could be rewritten as this:
Protolisk said:
They are the same case as Orcs - Humans who got some demon blood injected in them but they are still Humans, only now their skin is reddish/brown and they are stronger (well, all Humans can be stronger, if they are angry enough).
They aren't even reborn as new creature - they just lucky ones who survived getting demon's blood injected in them and that's all.

Yeah, same as how Human that survives Werewolf bite isn't Human anymore but Werewolf, he isn't reborn either.
Dwarves surviving those Vulcan eruptions are blessed by Arkath and are completely changed, they are huge, have molten skin and beards made of fire, but yeah they are still the same race by your standards obviously.
Well I can't see why don't you consider Orcs to be Humans then, it is the same argument.
