Poll Question: Female Armor & The Emerald Warrior
I'm making this thread with two separate but related interests.
1) The Emerald Warrior and Emerald Knight unit
2) Female armor and clothing in general
The intent of this poll:
The poll is meant to be simple. Should female units have armor that is sexualized at the cost of practicality or armor that favors practicality?
My personal opinion about the poll:
While I, personally, don't hate a little eye candy, I do believe that female armor should be designed to be practical. Females wearing unpractical, sexualized armor (e.g. the chainmail bikini) is, in my opinion, all too common and tiresome. I don't have much faith that Ubi will avoid these designs in Heroes 7. It is my hope that most of you will agree with me and that Ubi and Limbic will take note and bear it in mind while designing female units.
My personal opinion on the Emerald Warrior and Emerald Knight:
(Just as a note, I realize that nothing is official about the Emerald Warrior and Emerald Knight at this point in time. However, I'm going to talk about the unit under the assumptions that it will be in the game, that it will be female, and that the current vision for it is similar to the art we were shown.)
Basically, I think the armor of the Emerald Warrior and Emerald Knight should be practical, light, and have style.
By practical, I mean I believe it should favor realistic function over their sexualization just as I discussed above.
By light, I mean I believe it should keep in mind the intent of the unit. I think it should be very light because I already have a hard time believing a grounded humanoid walker is quick enough to be capable of the strike and return ability.
And by having style, I mean I believe it should be "themed after the various magical beasts found in the Elven forests, especially birds, wyverns and dragons" as according to the lore. I kind of enjoyed this part of the lore. I hope the design isn't too extravagant and/or silly, but I kind of like the basic concept.
Continuing discussing the Emerald Warrior and the Emerald Knight... according to the lore, the name "Emerald Knight" was given to them by the humans. I like this part of the lore as well, but because the name is a nickname given by outsiders, I am absolutely against it being the final name of the unit. I'm sure there are numerous good alternatives. One suggestion is keeping Emerald Warrior for the basic version and changing the upgraded version to Emerald Guardian.
Any suggestions for the name?
Any thoughts on the design?

Idc about skimpy impractical armor when it comes to elves tbh (both sexes) So their armor works fine for me. But if it was a human or a dwarf yeah, practical armor please.

Voted Practical, no need to use sex to sell a game, it should stand on its own.

Agreed. There is no reason practical armour cannot be attractive. Likewise, there is no reason for attractive armour not to be practical.

women shouldn't be in the frontline anyway. Where in the real world do you see that? Since it's already unrealistic, let's make the unrealism fun with some pleasure.

practical, certainly.
for the emerald warrior: I don't like it as I understand it. I would much rather like a pegasus rider again (and strike and return would fit them as well, even^^)

I personally cannot stand sexualizing armour wear when there's no believable reason for it (there almost never is). It's so 'Hollywood', just cheap and dumb, imho. I'm sure it sells, though, sadly.

Practical, its more realistic. I think if you are in a battle looking good would not be as important as actually surviving it.

From a female perspective I say practical armor. I get truly fed up with all the ridiculous skimpy armor that females wear in games. Its so obvious and stupid.
And for JEmo - ignorance again. Women have served on the front line for as long as there have been wars. Read your history. Learn and educate yourself. But regardless, we are talking about a fantasy game. I don't see you arguing about how unrealistic it is to have skeletons or dragons on the front line.

Iraqi military are utilizing women to fight islamists because islamists believe being killed by a woman means no heaven for them, lol. So yeah, nice fear factor there. Gender shouldn't matter when it comes to fighting, only heart does.
I'd go pick practical anyday, games are full of cliche females wearing little to no armor.
