A bit too long to my liking.

I think ”°the emarald”± maybe represents emerald dragon £¬or maybe sylanna herself.

I imagine they are temple guards or holy warriors£¬like valkyries. that makes them  more different than bladedancers.

I very much agree with you jackson. And I have a feeling that ubi is heading in that direction too, if the redesign of the H6 dungeon ladies is any indication.

I would prefer emerald guardian, guard brings to mind a bored-out-of-his-mind soldier guarding a warehouse

Thank you very much.

And heh, my thoughts as well.
Also, in my opinion, Emerald Guard doesn't really sound like an upgrade to Emerald Warrior.

On the other hand, Guardians have a greater... granduer. And to me, it does sound like an upgrade. So I still think Emerald Warriors -> Emerald Guardians is a good choice.

Again, I have two problems with Emerald Knights as a name:

1) It's a minor problem, but people are using this as an excuse to equate them with Haven.

2) According to the lore, they're not knights. Plain and simple. I like the current lore for them, and with the current lore, in my opinion, it would be an insult and mind-numbing if Emerald Knights became the official name even though that's not what they call themselves.

This is why I'm concerned. I know the Emerald Warrior as a topic may be moot in just a few days... but if they end up in the game, I want them to be as cohesive and immersive as possible: light, practical armor and to not be officially named Knights.

I'm sure there are more good alternatives, but I'm quite happy with the Emerald Warrior and Emerald Guardian.

"Emerald Scout" -> "Emerald Warrior". Voila, the Knight is gone from the name .

Thank you for the suggestion. I'd be okay with Emerald Scout -> Emerald Warrior. I don't love it because, in my opinion, "Scout" doesn't sound very fitting for an elite troop, but I'd still be fine with it.

I feel like, for the most part, I'm talking to myself here. But even if most of you are totally indifferent on the subject, I enjoy the unit but am simultaneously bothered by it enough to make these posts. Not trying to be annoying. You don't have to read any of this. But I'm going to brainstorm a bit and share some more thoughts.

Marzhin, since you've been answering some questions about the name choice for the Cavalier/Cuirassier, could you please tell me if "Guardian" is the official/final name for the Haven unit? Because if it is, then I'm sure you won't consider replacing "Emerald Knight" with "Emerald Guardian." Which is a small shame because I'm feeling more and more like that's one of the better choices. I reread the lore and looked at the (unofficial/not final) artwork again and tried brainstorming. Honestly, it was indeed difficult, which is part of why Emerald Warrior -> Emerald Guardian has further grown on me.

So I compiled a bunch of names. Some of these, in all honesty, I don't even like, but I'm still posting them for the sake of brainstorming. Here's a list:

Emerald Warrior -> Emerald Vanquisher
High Protector -> High Vanquisher
Emerald Scout -> Emerald Warrior
Boundless Protector -> Boundless Vanquisher
Ubiquitous Protector -> Ubiquitous Avenger
Wildwood Protector/Upholder -> Wildwood Avenger/Vanquisher
Hinterland Protector/Warrior -> Hinterland Avenger/Vanquisher
Hinterland Protector -> Hinterland Warrior
Forest Storm -> Emerald Storm
Emerald Warrior -> Emerald Fury
Forest Shadow -> Emerald Shadow
Forest Talons -> Emerald Talons
Forest Watch -> Forest Shadow
Forest Keeper -> Forest Shadow

I do have other thoughts on the Emerald Warrior - not just about the name.

I mean part of this thread was about the armor aspect as well. But when I was looking at the (unofficial/not final) artwork again, I re-noticed the spear and shield.

Is Ubi married to the spear and shield idea? I like the spear and shield, but it makes it even harder to believe they could have the Strike & Return ability. I really like the function of Strike & Return (though I think that, in general, it should be a pretty rare ability, to make it more special). However, between the armor, unwieldy spears and shields, and being a walker, it's terribly difficult to imagine a horde of Emerald Warriors running across the battlefield to strike the enemy and then running all the way back. (On the other hand, for contrast, it's not so terribly difficult to imagine a horde or even a throng of Harpies soaring through the air, descending, striking, and, rather than sticking around, returning in the direction from which they came, never even having touched the ground.) Even though I like the ability, I don't think I can be 100% satisfied imagining any humanoid walker with it, but to make it more believable, the Emerald Warrior should have light, practical armor and... maybe a short sword or dagger. Possibly even claws? Something light and agile.

I do enjoy the lore we were given. I like that the Emerald Warriors are an elite caste in the military. I like that they rely on agility, their skill is very well-honed, and that they're sometimes mistaken for legendary creatures of the forest. I like picturing the Emerald Warriors running with great agility and grace through the thick forest cover and striking at an intruder before the intruder even knows what's happening. So I do like the unit. I just find some aspects unsettling and want it to be as immersive as possible. I hope I've expressed myself decently.

In Summary
At this point in time I believe that the best choices for the unit are:
-naming it Emerald Warrior -> Emerald Guardian
-designing light, practical armor
-giving it a more agile weapon

I have honestly no idea what the final name of that unit will be if it gets voted.

Emerald Guardian won't happen for the very reason stated above, but I could see something along the line of Emerald Warden or Forest Warden. Now I'm not picking the names all by myself so whatever happens it will be after long discussions about the merits of this or that name

Early greeks and germans and zulu warriors use short spear and shield. they are light and agile too.

short sword is good but only romans use it as a primary weapon

Actually, in ancient times (and this includes the medieval era), the spear was far more common as a weapon than the sword ever was. The reason for this is that it's far cheaper and easier to make a good spear as opposed to making a good sword. Swords were usually reserved for the people who could afford them.

Swords somehow appeal more to our modern day imagination than spears, which probably finds its way back into how we perceive medieval times nowadays.

Which is odd, because in medieval times, at least in Western and Southern Europe the Swiss with their pikes/halberds were some of the finest soldiers available (for hire, they were mercenaries).

Thank you for replying, Marzhin. I appreciate it.

Anyway, none of my thoughts about the Emerald Warrior matter now.

I need to indulge my feelings for a moment. I can't help hide my disappointment with the results of the poll: I feel like everything I have ever loved about Sylvan has been taken away.

Anyway, this is just how feel, and I am not masquerading it as anything else. I just feel so disappointed.
