Well there's Joan of Arc as a famous example.
I also do not agree with JE. Elves have different society then the RL society of men. I'll have to say that imo JE is right only if this is said about Haven. Haven is the human society during the Middle Ages, taken exactly from there and included into the game. And there were no women in the medieval armies of Europe. Yes, there is Joan of Arc, but she isn't a norm, but an exception to the rule. Plus, she was dressed like a man, and the historian keep talking that there were some genetical problems, she never was a woman in the full meaning of the word, there were more of the male hormones in her then in a ordinary woman.
Anyway. This is not human society. Here we have elfs, and they may have women in the frontline.

As for the RL, this is true only in the age of guns. Or its just rare example for an exception to the rule.

Here in the United states of America. The policy of banning Woman from direct combat was officially ended in 2013. Long before that American women were getting caught up in fire fights anyways.
The term "front line" has little meaning in modern times. So long as you have women in a conflict zone, insurgents can sneak around and snipe them, so women have got to fight back.
One more thing Jeremiaha...
When someone dies in Iraq and Afghanistan that sacrifice is not forgotten. It is appreciated by us all regardless of whether a man or woman made it.

Maybe, but I suspect at least some of these ladies besides Joan were alive during the middle ages.

And they can tell this 400+ years after her cremation, how?

And this is fantasy, so historical patriarchal trends shouldn't be a straight-jacket.

1. Most (95%+) of the links are names of women involved in battles during the age of guns, not the medieval times. So yes, it was an exception to the rule;
2. Yes, you can say it about Joan. We have a lot of her story written and etc. Read some history. She wasnt really a woman. Hermaphrodites exist.
3. Yes, its a fantasy game, but the humans in fantasy are just ordinary humans.
Quote: Here in the United states of America. The policy of banning Woman from direct combat was officially ended in 2013. Long before that American women were getting caught up in fire fights anyways.
Exactly. "Fire fights" and not banned AFTER 2013. We have medieval human society here. Women in battle for Haven is an absurd. Put them in the line-ups of other towns. Female creatures fit better there.

Nevertheless, they existed, even then.

And what proof is there?
Quote: 3. Yes, its a fantasy game, but the humans in fantasy are just ordinary humans.
Yes, but their cultures aren't exactly the same which means the patriarchal nature of medieval Europe is, like everything else, a suggestion, not a rule.
Quote: Exactly. "Fire fights" and not banned AFTER 2013. We have medieval human society here. Women in battle for Haven is an absurd.
Only because it didn't happen historically, well except for a few cases, and more than a few for the Vikings who seemed reasonably willing to accept female warriors.

I think haven armor also tends to be impractical and overly ornate. It's suppose to look cool, but I think it looks gaudy, and wouldn't help with fighting.

And your second post in this thread was made because...? Whether or not female warriors existed in middle-ages society outside of the nordic regions is kind of irrelevant to a fantasy game.

oh wow lol, are you seriously trying to state that Joan of Arc was a hermaphrodite and doesn't count as a great female warrior? lol, that's just unbelievable, I hope you can cite a source for that claim

Ashan is absurd, and I'd like to have at least one Joan of Archetype over complete sausagefest.

A line up that features Inquisitors wielding Magic, Dire Wolves and Seraphs? That's fantasy to me, right there. Even if its origin is with medieval times in our real world, it's so much influenced by fantasy elements that I don't mind seeing women in the Haven lineup.
That being said, even as a male I do feel that in many fantasy settings the armor of women is too much sexually oriented and not pratical in nature. And yes, I do like seeing women in nice (putting it politically correct terms ) clothing like most others, but when it comes down to practically and functionality for combat purposes in games, attractive looks are not a top priority for me.

Dear Elvin and other Insiders,
As of September 24 at noon (CST time) the poll has received 41 votes. 39 (95%) vote for favoring practical armor over attractiveness and 2 (5%) vote for favoring attractiveness over practicality.
Not to make a huge deal out of this*, but will you please bring this to the attention of Ubi and Limbic if they are not already aware? I think this is an impressive agreement of those who have voted. It's more united than I had expected.
*As a clarification for everyone: this poll is not and never was about mutual exclusivity - it's simply about priorities.
As for the second part about this thread, the Emerald Warrior and Emerald Knight, does anyone have any thoughts? To quote mine:
jackson said: My personal opinion on the Emerald Warrior and Emerald Knight:
(Just as a note, I realize that nothing is official about the Emerald Warrior and Emerald Knight at this point in time. However, I'm going to talk about the unit under the assumptions that it will be in the game, that it will be female, and that the current vision for it is similar to the art we were shown.)
Basically, I think the armor of the Emerald Warrior and Emerald Knight should be practical, light, and have style.
By practical, I mean I believe it should favor realistic function over their sexualization just as I discussed above.
By light, I mean I believe it should keep in mind the intent of the unit. I think it should be very light because I already have a hard time believing a grounded humanoid walker is quick enough to be capable of the strike and return ability.
And by having style, I mean I believe it should be "themed after the various magical beasts found in the Elven forests, especially birds, wyverns and dragons" as according to the lore. I kind of enjoyed this part of the lore. I hope the design isn't too extravagant and/or silly, but I kind of like the basic concept.
Continuing discussing the Emerald Warrior and the Emerald Knight... according to the lore, the name "Emerald Knight" was given to them by the humans. I like this part of the lore as well, but because the name is a nickname given by outsiders, I am absolutely against it being the final name of the unit. I'm sure there are numerous good alternatives. One suggestion is keeping Emerald Warrior for the basic version and changing the upgraded version to Emerald Guardian.
Any suggestions for the name?
Any thoughts on the design?
Honestly, I'm more concerned about the name at this point in time. Names were expressed as temporary. The name Emerald Knight should be changed to something more appropriate. I still like Emerald Warrior and Emerald Guardian. Does anyone agree?

I very much agree with you jackson. And I have a feeling that ubi is heading in that direction too, if the redesign of the H6 dungeon ladies is any indication.
I would prefer emerald guardian, guard brings to mind a bored-out-of-his-mind soldier guarding a warehouse

even though they are both "protectors", i also find the term guard to imply a soldier or defender (in this case of nature), whereas guardian has more of a foster parent connotation to me
"emerald guard" just rolls off my tongue a little better than "emerald guardian" too..
emerald guards denotes to "protectors of nature" in my mind, and emerald guardians to "protectors of emeralds".
..in my mind.
