I personally don't think so, this is not a very good analogy, sea Nagas and Lizardmen are a fairly neat match more or less
I mean it's just not as bad or weird as cramming the Undead and the Kreegans in together who are two very, very diverse and completely different kinds of races
if they would have only one or two Nagas and have the rest be sinister swamp creatures like H3 like basilisks, without any dumb water spirits and things, it would make a good faction
needless to say they probably won't do that because of stupidity, but it is possible in theory
i'd actually say Gnolls and Lizardmen were an even more unconventional combo than sea Nagas and Lizardmen, but they worked together and were awesome

Right here is Reptiles + Reptiles, I don't see the harm in it.
I do. That was evil + evil but that didn't work.
Remember all that bullhonkey you said about the Root Snake and the Unicorn not going together. Well that does apply to this case.
Naga are pseudo-Japanese mystical peoples, whereas the Lizardmen+assorted Swamp creature are cruel Voodoo/Witchcraft savages. No amount of Scales and Egglaying is gonna make that go over easy.(pun unintentional)

Why do people keep advocating the return of the hodgepodgiest and most feral of all the factions? I never cared for H3 Fortress and I likely never will.

cause i like the original feeling of it. witch craft & vodoo in dangerous swamps. no other faction offers this.

Hmm, I kinda like the idea of a swamp faction somewhere in the unexplored regions of Ashan. Maybe it's because I liked Heroes3 Fortress very much Also, aren't there lizardmen in Ashan, created be wizards? They could have ran from Academy like many other beastmen, and settled somewhere, like that southern continent we know nothing about Just an idea

The 'good' naga are, but those evil ones that just want to drown the world could very well be written to fit your vision on the swamp faction. Imo evil medusae fit very well with hydra's and (more snake-like) basilisks.

This sounds also like a good option, although I am a bit fed-up with all the beastmen created by academy. "need a new race? Oh, we can let it be another academy experiment"
I'd rather see them as an unknown species of naga than as new beastmen.

As far as we know, the Wizards never created Lizardmen, not counting Cabir, since they look lizardlike.
And I've said before, if Lizardmen aren't an option, make them Crocodilemen.

Pseudo-Japanese and mystical says nothing about either good or evil, but I still think it'll turn out to be a faction with a split personality.

I'm pretty sure the creation of lizardmen was mentioned in Falagar's bio in PotSS. I can be mistaken, though

I just checked that, you are correct. Lizardmen, along with Sharkmen and Minotaurs, were created by Falagar's grandfather Agar.
But that does not change either of our points.
Yes, Lizardmen could have rebeled and sought a home in Swamplands far from civilization or even on a different continent.
And as I proposed, if Lizardmen aren't an option for reasons, we could use Crocodilemen instead.

i liked this. sanctuary values honor and such, i also see them as kind of good. i want to see those evils demons of the watery world.
i imagine some bad nagas helping them to step aside, calling otherwordly deeps to surface, to the known ashan. invade from the very deeps, even sanctuary seeks allies
imagination it is fun.

lets not take it to the limits.
a water basilisk and a fly could give sanctuary a h3 fortress vibe and still be all about the nagas and shalassa.
the kappa,as a frog is a river creature that dwells in swamps too.so why not the fly instead of it?
and the water basilisk could take the place of yuki-onna or mizu-kami.whichever you like less.
lizardmen and gnolls should stay away of course. hydra is with dungeon now, and gorgons never made sense to me. actually don'tknow what they are.
so you have a medusa,a fly and a shark guard,a water basilisk,a naga and maybe a mizu kami/yuki onna that are revamped to feel more relevant with the others.
maybe another version of sanctuary, another clan. a more swap/lake version. it's not that disasterous.

That would just be Sanctuary with Serpent Flies and Basilisks.
But people want the Lizardmen and Hydras back to the swamp as well. It'd be easier to make a whole new faction out of it.
As for the Gorgons: LINK

I'm starting to get really intrigued with the idea.
The naga, maybe from the civil war or from the Cult of the Wrecker, left their homeland in search for shelter in the depths of the swamps. They met the local population of lizardmen and swamp creatures and made a pact of cohabitation and mutual protection. The Naga forsake their arts and spiritual values and learned from the lizardmen the dark arts of witchcraft, voodoo and powerful charms and curses. I exchange they brought to the tribal beastmen knowledge of civilization and the art of combat. Now Ashan must recognize the rising to power of a new force, threatening to change the natural order in a quest for control and survival.

So lemme get this straight.
The Wrecker Cult goes to the new "continent" so they can practice their religion the way they want it.
Meet Lizardmen in the Swamps.
Forsake the Wrecker Cult for Voodoo. Yup, that makes sense.
Also, they teach the Lizardmen the art of combat? They live in dangerous swamps with all manner of dangerous beasts, some of which they dominate and use themselves. I think those Lizardmen know how to fight.
That being said, supposing the Wrecker Cult split-off from Sanctuary to form it's own faction That Isn't Sanctuary, I would settle for it.

There are at least 2 swamp places in Thallan so there's no need to go on another continent.
They practice what they want, unrestricted by their old beliefs.
They keep the Cult of the Wrecker as an organisation within the new faction. Or they merge it as part of the central command.
The only thing they forsake is their beliefs in honor and stuff like that, from their old days in Sanctuary.
I'm sure lizardmen have a sense of combat, but I can't imagine it's at the level of wielding weapons as the Naga do. They fight more with charms, voodoo, shamanism, witchcraft to enchant creatures and keep them at bay.

I'm pretty sure that swamp near Heresh is part of Holy Empire, specifically Bull Duchy. The other one, though, is perfect. It is right north from Hashima, and nothing is really known about it. Perfect place
