Pretty much this. Though another continent would explain why Lizardmen aren't involved in the goings on the last couple centuries.
Stevie said: They practice what they want, unrestricted by their old beliefs.
They keep the Cult of the Wrecker as an organisation within the new faction. Or they merge it as part of the central command.
The only thing they forsake is their beliefs in honor and stuff like that, from their old days in Sanctuary.
So you're saying they take up Voodoo on the side?
Stevie said: I'm sure lizardmen have a sense of combat, but I can't imagine it's at the level of wielding weapons as the Naga do. They fight more with charms, voodoo, shamanism, witchcraft to enchant creatures and keep them at bay.
They are likely to be much more savage and unrefined, agreed. But such an overreliance on magicry would make them helpless without it. Which in turn I find unlikely, or at the very least unpractical, in such dangerous environments.

I think their uninvolvement can be explained by their lack of presence as a power in Thallan. They can be represented as tribal until the time the naga come, focused more on survival and preserving their arts. We don't need another continent to introduce the swamp faction. That would be too much of an effort for Ubisoft. The idea of settling in Thallan swamps, specifically the on north from Hashima, seems more doable and realistic.

Pretty much. Naga that favor control and witchcraft over honor and spiritual values.

It's not like they can't wield a rudimentary spear with a sharp rock at it's head, or maybe even make bows from branches and use cattail arrows. Or use hollow tubes with poisoned feathery darts to paralyze prey. But that's not exactly Naga sword fight.

That being said, supposing the Wrecker Cult split-off from Sanctuary to form it's own faction That Isn't Sanctuary, I would settle for it.
That's what I was proposing all along. Replace sanctuary with a 'cult of the wrecker' naga faction that wants to turn the whole world into swamp.
If they get the lizardmen to help them, even better

OH, I read it as, Keep Sanctuary and add in Lizardmen, Hydras and Swamps.
But I don't think we need to cut out Sanctuary alltogether. Just keep it and the HIII Fortress Lizardmen seperate.
Stevie said: Pretty much. Naga that favor control and witchcraft over honor and spiritual values.
Hmmm. I'd rather see the Cult of the Wrecker lose the power and favour of their God, get progressively unable to use magic and be forced to take up Voodoo as a replacement. This would give them even more reason to hate Sanctuary Naga, who still enjoy the favour of Shalassa.

Given that they've enjoyed Academy civilisation for a while before they struck out on their own, I'd give them a little more craftsmanship then that. Though the use of blowdarts has often been suggested, by me as well, as a good ranged weapon for lizardmen.

I very much like this idea. It makes sense to get forced and opt for Voodoo and Witchcraft if they're rendered unable to perform Magic by their Goddess.

I think I'm kind of siding with War-overlord on this. Not that I don't want H3 Fortress back, because I really do, I think the swamp setting was one of the most unique and atmospheric of the H3 factions, but I think it should be kept separate from the Sanctuary - and if we agree that this new swamp faction (Bastion?) would be separate from Sanctuary, why would we even need a Naga involvement? Of course, I can see where the idea comes from, because once again the Ashan lore becomes a limitation rather than a help in developing the world ("In Ashan, there are only 9 factions, yada yada yada..."), but if this faction was to be (re-)introduced, I definitely think it should be a Lizardman faction living in those eastern swamps (and bring back Mighty Gorgons!).

I'd rather call it something like Ziggurat, Bastion has too many connections to that fanmade desert faction of HIII.
But I'm glad I've got some people siding with me.
Also, Gorgons are awesome, but I don't know if D&D copyrighted them like they did Beholders and some of their other creatures.

I really doubt they will bring any new faction soon, so i was hoping that the sanctuary would get boosted with some nostalgia.
The swamp is smth unique as a setting but I'd rather see some creatures of the swamp "wasted" as sanctuary units, because we will definetely see sanctuary way sooner than a new faction., and the sanctuary will be far more tied to the heroes lore.
@War-Overlord
I read about gorgons and thanks about the link. But being a greek guy I felt irritated.
The gorgon was actually the name of the species a medusa is part of.
They were three ladies, all gorgons, Stheno, Euryale, and their sister Medusa.
So a gorgon being a bull with scales turning things to stone from the vapor he exhales is a no for me and a little snowed up mythology, since i was actually familiar with the term "gorgon" and it bothered me that i saw a bull in its place.
SAY NO TO GORGONS!

They didn't. Or, if they did, then Castlevania is gonna get sued hard.
I feel like Ziggurat would be too death based, however.
I just want some semblance of H3 Fortress back. Be they alone or with Sanctuary is a non-factor, to me, as long as it is done well.

Lawsuits only happen when it is used without permission. Perhaps they payed Wizards of the Coast a certain licencing fee.
Also what do you base your death-base for the Ziggurat on?
I would suspect that as long as the Swamp-factor is combined, the Sanctuary factor will overwhelm it.

So soley on Warcraft then?
Which look nothing like actual Ziggurats?
And let's admit, calling a faction Stepped Pyramid is silly.

You see, I played Warcraft, but I also thought it was the Sumerian equivalent of a Pyramid, which were mostly enormous tombs. I see now I was wrong in my assumption. However, it seems more religious than "voodoo", to me, as it states they were shrines and temples. "Voodoo", to me, seems much less organized and consistent. But, then again, its not like "Haven" and "Sanctuary" are places without fighting, so I suppose I'd be fine with it.

Fortress is the obvious choice for me, specifically the Dwarf one but I highly doubt we are getting that. I'd be overjoyed if we do get Fortress though.
In a distant 2nd is Sanctuary ONLY because Dungeon is just another set of Elves and I really don't like demons. If Dungeon were a race of Faceless or something other than Elves, it would automatically replace Sanctuary. Plus, I would really love to see a Sanctuary that doesn't have a lot of females.
Dungeon and Inferno would be a difficult choice because it's between the better of two worst. But if I have to pick, for now, it would be Dungeon.

Inferno is poorly constructed. So much so that it's nothing more than a natural cataclysm that happens once in a while. It needs to depart from this role if it wants to be a relevant Ashan race.
