Still strikes me a bit dishonest. That's a demon with black armor and a sword. I think this is one comes a bit closer to what a Shadowsteel construct would be:
Best one I could find. Still feels incredibly awkward associated with Dungeon.

The Shrike, I had forgotten ^^ Love Hyperion to death.
I don't get what is dishonest about taking influence from more interesting designs like this one. Heck it's a fantasy game, were I a designer I could come up infinite ways to make it sensible - "The Dungeon Sorcerers are able to bind demonic spirits into their metallic constructs"
That blob of purple is just.. lame..

It's lamer to feed people with false hope that a Shadowsteel construct would look anything but purple.

Oh I see, so I have tried to feed people with the idea that I would suddenly become a Heroes designer and we would get something like the pic I posted?
Umm, no.

For heroes 6 your purplesteel construct would be perfectly fitting, but the devs promised not to overdo the purple in heroes 7 Stevie.

This is how a Shadowsteel mine looks, you can see the Shadowsteel ore is purple:
This is the Strider's description:
"walker, shadowsteel construct with debuff abilities. Saboteur."

Don't forget that there will be a second round after one of the three line-ups is eliminated in the first.

The way I always saw it is that upgraded buildings give U access to creatures of higher rank/more powerful of the specific FAMILY or GROUP of creatures (similar in appearance but not quite the same species). If You can afford to build simple buiilding no elite creature would be found there so You will be getting only mediocre units. When U upgrade the building suddenly U can hire elite specimens of the given group.
Except ... consider the following case: in one of your towns, you upgrade a creature dwelling from base tier to upgraded tier. However, since you bought creatures from it earlier that week, no creatures are present. Next, a Hero enters town with 100 base creatures. You upgrade them. Now, with your scenario in mind, we can ask a few questions:
- Where did the base creatures go?
- Where did the upgraded creatures come from (as you couldn't recruit any before)?
- If the base creatures and upgraded creatures aren't the same, why can't the base creatures stay and you simply add the upgraded ones?
You could argue that the dwelling actually houses a lot more creatures than you can recruit, whose population generates new units every week so you simply exchange the base ones for the upgraded ones - but that raises another question: why can't those lazy sods help defend your town in case it's put under siege?
I also saw some mention of H3's genies, that the base version is considered female? I don't know why, I've always considered them males as well. Just young genies, while the upgrade is adult.
alcibiades said: I don't understand why they didn't simply go for the obvious choice if they really wanted to listen to us: Pick three cores from the entire group, pick three elites from the entire group, and pick two champions from the group.
The main problem is that the individual choices may end up lacking direction. Grouping offensive units or defensive units together creates homogenity in a faction and where one creature may have a weakness, another creature may make up for it with its strength. With random pickings, such internal faction balance is completely missing.

Elite creatures
- Minotaur/Minotaur guard: melee walker with preemptive strike and no retaliation. Damage dealer.

- Manticore/Scorpicore: flier with poison debuff. Saboteur.
Champion creatures

Very nice, I love hydras, but they should had made an option like this, with faceless as a champion.

As most of you i would like Shield of Darkness, isn t enought about elves ?
So this line up would fit well Heroes 7, to me emblematic creatures are hydra and minautors that s why i would replace "stalker" (is it really a dark elf ?) by a beastman. This beastman would represent the entire race.

So much this.
Most creatures are obviously just more veteran/better equiped versions. The creatures changing scales or fur color can be atributed to many things, like evolving at a certain point of power, getting old, going through specific physical changes that race has when they grow up, spells to make them stronger, etc... it's fantasy.
But the Deers are stated to be male and female of the same creature and that each one can only be seen during day or night. This doesn't make any sense because:
- You're changing the sex of 129 Does to transform them into Deers for some weird reason. Like... what??
- The powers of each creature are described as different... so you lose abilities when you upgrade them? And why one is the upgrade of the other and not the other way? They just have different powers, a veteran Doe could kick the @$$ of a young Deer.
- If each one is rarely seen during day or night, why I can use both of them during the same period of the day, but then they can't even meet each other to procreate? Zero sense.
It has been stated that they don't burst into flames but it has been stated too that their numbers are low because they find litle time to procreate between night and day, so if they don't have energy to procreate during the opposite period... how exactly do they have energy to fight?
I would rename them "Twilight Stags" as the species is called, with something more glamurous for the upgrade and tweak the lore a bit (before it's too late and is set in stone by appearing as is in the game), right now it feels really weird.
