not sure if this is the right place to post, hope I'm not breaking any rules D: when I heard the newsof an HD rerelease, I was so excited I was gonna explode. Only slightly disappointed that it's not a remake per-se, just a res up of the older graphics, but I'll still play the snow out of it xD
that being said, if the release does support mods, I'll try to do my own graphics revamp as I always imagined a HOMMIII remake would look like. I've already started on the behemoth/ ancient behemoth:

On the bright side new player ---- some will want more and go back to old version AB, SoD since they are no remake ---- on those some might find VCMI, HotA, WoG. In some way that some increased visibility.
I'm not sure about those project and the legal stuff but some fan project I followed had a donation program on there website where you could contribute financially. Isn't that possible for these one?

Wait, wait, wait. You have upscaled those images 9 times, not 3. The variable that matters here is surfsce are of an image, not its length and width. These two should be increased by a factor of 3^(1/2) in order to obtain true times 3 magnification. It is like with TVs - a TV with 82 inch diagonal is in fact 4 times bigger than one with 41 inches (if we assume that ratio vetween width and height of screen is constant). Why? Width is two times bigger, height is two times bigger, thus the screen becomes four times bigger (2h*2w=4wh for 82 inches, while for 41 inches: h*w=wh). The same applies for models of units. Math is not that obvoous as one may think.

RNG random map compatibility?
Do you think they will allow compatibilty with the popular RNG way of creating random map templates?
I doubt it, but it would really be good since alot of the multiplayer community play those.

Map compability is the key issue. I hope we get an answer before the game is released.

I have used the same algorithm they used. Where x3 upscale means 300%. Look at their images for example

please find underneath actual sprite from original and hd version Will be easier to compare with full scale.
Best,
Ubi-Nox
Thanks for clarifying this out. Also, are you going to change the extensions .lod and .def which maintain the graphical modding capability of H3? Or will we still able to modify the sprites? It's very important since H3 is mostly alive due to modding

Great news indeed! This takes away some of the worries I had!
Will the improved touch screen control also be implemented for the Windows version? (This is significant for me, because I have a Windows tablet.)

Not that I own a tablet but does this mean the maps won't be compatible with the tablet versions?
And as for "steam", will there be no DRM-free no-Steam version / "brick and mortar" DVD version?

And what about maps from futher versions of HoMM3 (Armageddon's Blade, Shadow of Death, Heroes Chronicles, Complete)? Any chances for them to work with H3HD too, eventually?

I guess some people were a bit too quick to criticize.

I guess it's not the creature but the blue rectangle around it which is 450x400

What about based random map templates?
There are different kind of maps in homm3.
1. Maps made in an editor.
2. Semi-hacked random map templates like these: http://www.toheroes.com/h3maps/Random.htm
A thread which describes how to use random maps in more detail: http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=38087
A large amount of the H3 community (50-70%) played almost exclusively random maps. So if just "maps" are in the new version, and not the random maps, it will remove alot of the value for the community.
However, if random map templates are in, it will be Teh Awesom
