I will be totally against Spiders until I've got proof they're Undead. Only then I might consider of even thinking do I like them or no.

Aren't they outright called dead and slowly turning into namtaru in their description?

Nope. It's just a theory of some scholars.
And base version surely looks like living spider.
The last time Heroes had living creatures in Necro, it was a catastrophe...

Well, they can always say those spiders are dead in their description also, when was that last time?

In H4, when Necropolis was "merged" with Inferno.

it might have worked better if the magic hero, magic, and special buildings weren't made specifically for an undead army.
when it comes to spider, I guess zombies aren't a big loss. that's not like spiders replace unicorns or medusas...

I'm indiferent about the spider. I'll have to see it in action before I can decide. If it'll have cool ability to web enemies or climb walls, it could be interasting.
Also. Ashan Necropolis are not undead. Not all of them. Vampire is alive, if I understand correctly. And why wouldn't a bunch of undead wizards keep giant spider as a pet or war animal? I don't see the problem here.
And again I don't see problem of Spider being their symbol and also in their army. It's true for Griffin in Griffin duchy, and Wolf in wolf duchy...
And it's one of rare new units in game. Yes it's generic. But it replaced Ghoul which was my personal most hated unit in H6 Necro lineup alongside Vampire. Seriously you can't get more WoW than Ghoul.

Well, in terms of gameplay, I dont know how things were in H6 but in H3 for example, there were mass spells that affected only the undead or vice versa, the living that was cast by the undead, so, the whole concept was not just a decor. An undead army had its unique specialties, advantages and disadvantages, you were able to have tactics specific to playing with the undead. It wasnt just the spells either, they had no moral and they lowered moral of living creatures, so it was a bad idea to mix those units. All of this provided variety and strategical depth. The factions are much more meaningful when they have their different conditions and specialties, as opposed to sore types of graphic styling and imaginary races with no practical difference whatsoever. If they really took out "raising the dead" factor out of Necros for example, it's a terrible, terrible decision.

Agree on this. But in H6 you could raise dead all Necro units, even if in the lore they were "alive". Frankly I didn't even know Vampires in H6 weren't undead untill I heard it from this forum.
I belive lore and artistic design shouldn't interfere with gameplay mechanics.

demons are alive, they are outsiders, thats all. but about h4, it was not necropolis, it was a mixed faction of another philosophy.
when you design a creature you gotta make them tell who they are. if observer dont get what they are looking to, or even dont feel what they were supposed to feel to, then its a fail design and it should be reshaped.
here we are having troubles with necro creatures. they fail to give us impression of undead, mage and so on. think about it, we all seen spider, vampire and lich, but noone is sure if they are even undead.. lich doesnt speak for itself, is it a mage? noone can say.
thats why h3 and h5 had much more better necro units. lich for example, had a spellbook so you could say he is a mage, and h3 lich had a glowing staff so you could say its a magical staff and weilder of it, should be a mage.
grim rider speaks for itself too, its covered with lifeless colors and skulls.. when you look his face, you are looking to a blank dark space, to deepest shadows. its fearsome, and feels like unknown like death himself. also he is a rider with a scythe.. reminding us of religious texts and stories about horseman of death and the reaper. it is a good design.

Vampires are undead. All of them.
I don't see a problem lore-wise, but wasting a precious slot on living Spider? No!

It's name suggests it's dead spider. Also - it's not my idea Vampires are alive. I read it from someone on this forums. I don't pay atention to lore.

No, its name is Death Spider, not Dead Spider. There is a difference.

What do you think would provide more of an undead vibe: splits in the exoskeleton that make it look more like an empty or bursting shell, or missing/damaged legs?
