I won't comment on anything else regarding the larger issue, as enough has been said already, but the concept of hiring people for jobs and positions based on competence, qualifications and experience is one that I fully subscribe to. Gender should never be an issue with that - but it comes with one condition: to allow anyone, regardless of gender, also the opportunity to deploy themselves to the best of both their talents and skills as well as their ambitions. The latter is not at all a given, even in our modern, western world (salary inequality is a sign of this).
In that light, I seriously can't understand societies who repress women in barbaric ways and basically only treat them as breeding machines; they're wasting so much potential to help their society and country up to far higher standards of living and wealth than they are at, now.
