HC Guide to Avoid Penalties

I don't know if that was a good idea, but I had in mind that once I will have to post this. I want the help of the moderators, and the peoples that earned/loss red stars to understand HC more.
Please, don't take it as a noob thing, or anything bad, but I don't know good how to behave. Can anyone help me ?
I really don't want anything bad to happen to the forum, and I am sorry for anything bad I sayd, or giving the impression to peoples that I really don't fit this community, but I really want to help by anyway. Can someone give me tips on avoiding penaltyes ?
I rode the FAQ, and Rules for looots of times, but I still have the feeling that I missed something.

Help ?

i can help you. i'll even be serious about it:

rule #1: never believe what is posted on the internet. the internet is a place where people tend to say anything they want(and usually do). whether they are facts or not, it's best to take everything with a grain of salt(that is, lightly, and not seriously). there are many liars, and the internet makes it safe for mostly honest people to bend reality to their will, somewhat anonymously.

rule #2: if you are young, you may or may not mature as you grow older. maturity is overrated, but necessary for proper communication with other people; and will help others to take you more seriously. as you mature, you may or may not learn how to seperate the bullsnow from the facts; which leads me to:

facts: slenderman does not exist. neither does jeff the killer and all that other nonsense. real-life monsters are merely human beings, and they're all around you, in lesser or greater numbers, depending on where you are, and in what point in time you are. if you want to scare yourself, consider the fact that everyone has the potential for horrible things, under the right circumstances. and those circumstances could happen at any moment. so take any safety you think you might have with a grain of salt, too.

rule #3: as far as online communications go, your words are who you are, as that is all people have to go by. so, if you want people to think you are intelligent, learn to spell; and learn to use proper grammar, as well. you may want to tone down on the amount of emoticons you use, as it makes you look childish. i use them for the same reason.

if you want people to think you are a child, a moron, or someone who simply doesn't care, you can skip these rules, and post whatever you want. but you will be judged by what you post, and although sometimes threads or posts get deleted, the memories of what you post may remain within the community you occupy. so if you honestly care what people think, take care in what you say.

in every rule i posted here, you can feel safe in following them. i'm not bullsnowting you; i'm honestly trying to help.

edit: now that i think of it, most of this is in the Faq. silly me.

Thank you.
Well, I am young. More younger then you think.
A tip:
Totally under 18, and totally higher then 10. That's for sure. I try to look mature, because I really want to. That's my way to be. But fighting everyone will take me nowhere. I was banned from many places along the times. 6 different forums banned me, and from 6 different servers on games I was banned. I don't want this to happen again. I want to help. By ANY meaning. Excluding die-ing and giving my soul to Satan

And the emoticon stands here for kidding, for humor, as well as it does for trolling peoples.

Edit:Although is in the FAQ, you spelled it with some words more understood by everyone, so thanks

if you are being honest, then think back to what you said or did before to get banned at each of those places, and just don't repeat that here.

and you're welcome.

I was because I broke the rules from the game, and the forums were official. I was banned many times from the same games and unbanned, but then I started to talk, because this wasn't fair (it was all because the rules weren't fair), and I fought the admins and the moderators. All this resulted in bans. I still kept on the forums, by creating a new account, but really...
It is not my pleasure to do this.
I really enjoy to talk opened to some friends. They listen to me, and tell me good tips. You are in this category

Basically, it boils down to one word: common sense. Ok, that's two .

But seriously, think before you act (and in the case of online communication, acting means pressing the "submit" button or pressing enter on the chatline).

In general, there's a guideline that's pretty much a golden rule: do not do unto others, that which you do not wish to have done unto you. In other words, think about what you're about to write down; how would you appreciate it if you were the recipient of that message? If the message you're typing to the other person(s) who will read it, was directed to you instead? That does require some skills in introspection and reflection, however, and the ability to "step into someone else's shoes", to look at yourself from the perspective of the other person.

Some people never learn, for others it comes naturally. And all the rest, they just have to practice it time and again until it's second nature. You're young and like Fred said, such things come with age. At least you admit that you struggle with it, which is commendable, as many people don't have the courage to do so . It means you're aware of something you don't really like about your own behaviour and the first step in solving a problem is accepting that there is one, in the first place. With your awareness, you can start to think about it and see what you can change.

Let's take a personal example: your statement that you were part of the HotA team. You did make a post about it to apply for it and made some support thingy, but it was never recognized by the (core of the) HotA crew. Yet, there suddenly was this post from you, stating that you were a teammember. Now think about that particular post, how would other people respond to it? What would such a statement mean for the HotA team, who hadn't even responded to your application yet? What would it mean for other readers, for whom it was relatively obvious that you were, in fact, lying about being a member; how would they look upon you with such a statement? What was the reason to post that in the first place? Was it driven by the need to "belong"? To claim your own piece of ground to stand on relative to the colossi of the forum?

Keep in mind, those are all questions for yourself, you don't have to answer them here . Ask these questions yourself before you post something - anything -, think about their implications and possible backfire it may have. Be respectable towards other members; even if they invent new curse words to label you, remain courteous and don't be provoked. Don't react to ad-hominems, but stick to the facts and you will claim the moral high ground.

And this takes time and patience. Even I sometimes make posts that I shouldn't have or at least have worded differently, in hindsight. One of my bad habits is that I frequently end up re-reading my posts, finding a flaw in it and then editing that flaw.

The easiest way to avoid penalties is to follow three simple steps:

1) Be respectful.
2) Use appropriate language.
3) Do not post offensive imagery.

If you can do that, you'll be good.

Also, I edited the thread subject line to include the correct spelling of "penalties."

Ok, thank you for all your posts. I know how to behave, but I am panicated, because Heroes is maybe the best game I've played and having the opportunity to talk to the most experienced peoples. I don't post offensive images, but I want to be humouristic. I know, the humor isn't needed to be everywhere, I know. Well, I want instead of gaining a penalty, to gain a QP. I am not desperate on getting one, but only 1 I want to get. To proof that I have a great chance somewhere. But I have to PROOF that I need it. And as I sayd, I will do ANYTHING to help the community (again, not reffering to thinks like deaths)

I stayed out of it ever since you registered, husham, because while I did not like you, I figured you're not trolling on purpose. You're just too young to understand why you annoy people. But since you've gone out of your way to make this thread, I'll share my thoughts with you.

I think your main problem is that you're trying to impress us too much. You want to prove that you're just as good as any of us. The problem is - you're not. And I'm not saying this as an insult either, it's just that you don't necessarily have the experience some of us have in different areas. It's okay to be a noob, you just have to know your limitations and act accordingly.

Take for example, your modding/mapping threads. You tried to make a guide for map-making. The idea of helping newbies make their own maps is great. But how can you teach them anything if you yourself haven't made a map that other people play and enjoy? Now think of the people who actually make maps. You know, the ones who spent years if not decades perfecting their skills. To them, seeing such a poorly made guide is an insult to mapmakers. So they form a bad opinion of you - that you're just some loudmouth who talks a lot but can't really do anything.

Then there's your latest HC Talent thread. I still remember the original HC Talent. I remember how much work the organizer and the participants put into it. You thought about your opening, what? three minutes? five? And did you even give any thoughts about how to organize this event? It can take days thinking up the details of how such a contest should be run and organized, but you just make a thread and hope it'll work itself out. This also makes a bad impression of you.

Now, I don't want you to be discouraged. Just because you failed to make something worthwhile so far, doesn't mean you can't do it later. And even if you don't think you can make something as grand as a modding guide or a huge competition, that doesn't make you a bad poster. You just need to know your limitations and act accordingly. And with time you will learn and you will push back those limitations and you will be able to make better and better things. Take me for instance. According to my profile I only made two threads in my first year at HC. And both of them were very small, with a very specific purpose in mind and they outlived themselves after a couple of posts. I made my first big project on my second year here. But believe me when I say that after several months here I was quite well-known and respected. This is because I knew what I can do for the better of the community and what I can't. And because I listened to the responses of the community to my posts in order to improve the good and suppress the bad.

And now you made mall nostalgic and made me miss people I haven't talked to for years. I hope you're happy.

Oh yeah, and good luck.

Peace out.

Yes, I know, I am young.
I do spawn threads from nowhere, but that was just to help. Indeed all this failed . I like that you try to help me, as well as the other members of the community. But I don't just know you. Wait, that's it !
I would know what to do, but I don't know what YOU need. I'm sorry.
Indeed, I NEVER meant to insult someone. I respect, and want to learn indeed. I didn't even meassured my words, but I though that at least, they will not gain me penaltyes. And maybe that QP, made as an impulse will be gained by me, but as a reward for helping the community, or just... keeping the community a nice place. I mean nothing to anyone if I only annoy them. And that's another reason WHY I want to know at least not to be annoying, or be helpfull.

And, umm...
Thanks that you gave me time to understand things better.

Basically just be yourself. Act how you would to your mates in real life, with respect. Do that here and you'll be right.

Also, do not care about QPs. They mean nothing in the long run. They are not what distinguishes you from being a great member, only you can do that yourself.

Indeed. Not to discredit the mods here, I think they do a great job, but I've seen great posts go without a QP and I've seen posts which I personally frowned upon get awarded with one.

Well, then please, write in your agenda that I am a young man, a begginer in this forum, so please have the patience with me, until I will understand how things go better.

And, so, yep, some posts go without QP, because you can't give them away with no reason. Notice that not the post gains a QP, but the man that tryes to help the community, and after several nice posts, you will gain a QP. But, you're right, there are some posts that were going without QP .

Also note that I am NOT a QP Hunter.

Then maybe stop with the mentioning of QPs and just post what you think is right and will help the community. At the end of the day, like I said before, they do not distinguish whether you're a good member or not, it's just a star, an image on a website. Means nothing.
