I wonder, if there would be Dwarves, what the 2nd champ would be?

The Magma Dragon is a must, so the other one will probably be either a Fire Giant or the Valkyrie... Although as to not have the same models in the same tiers, i guess that Valkyrie could be an elite and not a champion. Tha leaves the Fire Giants, sons of Arkath as champions... probably... i mean its Ashan and all... so...

I'm guessing we won't get a dwarf dragon. Just Jötunn (fire or ice) and a Valkyrie.

What I'm expecting is dwarves, spears, bears and/or boars, priests, valkyries, giant, fire dragon. As for the OP question, I think there is room for some construct here if they want, but it will be probably more about rune magic than tech, who knows.
As for champions, since fire dragon is almost guaranteed, I think I would prefer a frost giant instead of a fire one, I guess a really bada$$ valk could work too. Our fire dragon will probably be more like Arkath than the godzilla-style we got in h5:

A bit OT, but how do you guys would like a frost giant be? More dwarf-like? More monster-like? Mixed? Something else?

Guys, please keep in mind that there is nothing really linking ice to Fortress of Ashan as far as we know.
Dwarves is the race of fire and runic magic. In the Ashan compedium there is nothing suggesting ice units or any indication to Ice Giants, trolls and so on.
So, i doubt that there will be any ice type of unit in the lineup. If an ice faction or unit appears it will be a sanctuary based one.

Norse mythology could be the link.
Or because they could live inside mountains too, instead of only underground.
I see your point, you are probably right.
Still a little frostfire vibe could work in fortress, I guess. Who knows.

Flaming santa hammer time!
I would actually like fire giants and a salamander as dwarven champions. The magmazilla was fun too though it is possible we will get an Arkath clone this time. Not necessarily a bad thing.. An epic mammoth could also work.
But those valkyries are such a waste of potential. They also need a chariot, heroes lineups never gets a cool chariot!
What I'd like to see..
A defender, a cannoneer/bomber(no more crossbowmen ffs), an unridden bear.
A runepriest, a valkyrie, a troll.
A fire giant, magmazilla.

Would be fun to have fire-breathing sasquatch (using booze) but there are already enough breath attacks I guess.

"Arkath is wingless and favours a bipedal position (standing on its rear legs to dominate its opponents)."
After reading this, I think we might get an Arkazilla.

We've been searching with Minastir for possible lineups, trying to follow their logic from what we've see. Since Fortress is not in the Duel of Champions, we don't know much more than what we have in the Ashan compedium. There Dwarves are described as explorers and architects, having many "guilds".
From that regard, maybe the dwarves could have bonuses that provide them reduced costs from building future town buildings or other adventure map items. It's a possibility.
Also, the Delvers are described as the explorers of cave tunnels, first line of attack during wars, as the parties that engage in battles with Delves and Demons. Maybe, this unit will be the other core for the lineup (a possible scale down version of the Berserker). This unit could be a strike and return unit, or just a fast damage dealer.
Defender or whatever it may be called is the iconic and basic unit of dwarven society. It is almost 100% guaranteed that it will return, maybe with an ability similar to the Sentinel.
Battle Bear is more of an elite unit for me rather than a core one. I mean, a bear is stronger than a deer, or a wolf, or from any other mammal beast we have in game right now so it makes no sense to make it a core. Especialy the armored version, or if the upgraded version will have a dwarven rider on it.
Valkyrie is also a unit with very high chances of appearing. I believe it will be an elite flyer with some kind of attack boosting aura (like the Stag from sylvan) and from its lore, it should have some bonus when allied dwarven units die. I don't think it will make it as champion, because then core and elite tiers will lack a flyer and possibly if the other dragon turns out to be a flyer, Fortress will have two champion flyers.
This is actualy the reason, i created the thread, as i find it really difficult to find units that can be flyers and also fit into Ashan fortress, or even teleporters
Rune Priest is now a strange matter indeed, because in the Fortress page, it is considered the iconic magic hero of the dwarves. Although also high probable to appear in the elite tier as a magic shooter (another fire damage shooter in the game...), there is also a chance that it will become one of the magic heroes and another unit taking its place. This unit is also probable to genderbend.
Fire and Magma Dragons will probably make a return, along with fire Giants. I am guessing that the dragon will gain flying with its upgrade, being a melee damage dealer in basic version, much like the gargoyle. As for the Fire Giant, he will probably be a shooter with some kind of powering aura.
So far, the above are the units in my mind close to 100% appearing in the lineup
Keep in mind that if i am not wrong, Erwan did say that the possible expansion Faction will be Fortress
So, maybe, a cannon could fit the core spot, to provide another shooter to the mix. But then again, a cannon could be a warfare unit. Also, salamanders will not be as easy to implement because Cabirs are Salamanders with different name...

The only mechanical unit I would accept in a dwarf line up would be dragon golem maybe like in H4.Otherwise I would stay away from gun powder and steam punk elements for Heroes line ups.

How about machines that are powered by runes or by dwarves? No steam or electricity? Although steam is not such a technological advancement since we are talking about a fire nation here

Hell no. From a runepriest I expect nothing less than an awesome beard.

@Articun
very cool. :]
But about the Battle Bear, I think if they are just bears they might end up being a core unit. The sun stag is very tall, it's more like a forest guardian entity or something. It's not an ordinary deer, like unicorn isn't an ordinary horse. To bears be promoted to elite they would need something more, imo.
About the dragon, after reading Arkath's description, where it's said to be the largest of the elemental dragons and likes bipedal posture, I think we'll get a kind of Arkazilla. (maybe magmazilla with semi-winged arkath-style arms). I also think it will end up being a walker, then we could get a fire giant/thane as a teleporter.
I also read some references about engineers and sappers.
But maybe they'll be warfare units, or maybe.. hero class?

Not to point fingers mate, but most magic shooters are being gender bend. Disciples are keeping strong but only because genies took the change.
And a lineup without a female is a no-no, unless ofc we see bears with pink ribbons

Runepriests are bearded by definition, dwarves are bearded by definition, genderbending their units is nonsense.
Valkyries on the other hand can fit the town, they are female aren't they?
And besides, according to Tolkien dwarven women have beards, so you could theoretically have bearded dwarves and still have them female.
Also, Priests and Abbots are remaining male aren't they? Or is there something I'm not seeing?
