Top 5 changes/fixes list

As per the request:
gomaki said:
Remember we are going to continue to support the game. There will be more 'official' posts soon regarding future support patches, what to expect in them and whatever else.

To that end what I would like to see is a thread with your personal top 5 changes or fixes to H7 you want to see that you think will make the game better for everyone. I don't want really small details or super specific stuff, and remember what you're picking, If relevant will be presented in our feedback meeting next week so we can make some changes. An example list;

1) Council hub scene improved
2) Memory leaks gone
3) More color saturation or options to change/choose how it looks
4) Better combat AI
5) More content

Something like this. You can put a little explanation as to why you picked something if you like but all i'm trying to do is a get a general consensus among many communities.
This will be relevant to me until Monday 26th so I have a day to gather everything and make a fancy looking report.

So, post your top 5 wishes. ^^ Please, refrain from discussing forum members' choices or the importance of the features that members have chosen (i.e. "Hey m8, your choices suck, that's not what the game needs right now") in this thread - Gal, I'm looking at you my friend. ^^
I think we can manage those kinds of discussions in the main thread. Let's make this a simple wishlist, though, ofc, a little explanation of "why I've chosen that" won't hurt.

And remember: as gomaki's post suggests, you don't need to be an owner of the game in order to send good suggestions that, if used by the team, will make H7 better for everyone. ^^

-----------

My personal top 5:
1) Better game optimization. Heck, this shouldn't even be a wishlist, but a strict priority! There also goes 32-bit version.
2) Memory leaks gone. I think that's an objective wish that everybody will support.
3) Better AI. Not only better in combat, but in general, in all areas.
4) More complex skillwheel. More interconnections between skills, more varieties of skillwheels, more varied skillwheels as well (remind me, what's the difference between Dungeon's magic Heroes?)
5) Better localization. Yes, I'm bringing this topic again and will push it anytime (im)possible, and I believe it wouldn't hurt the game and the majority of players. I've said it many times during the Beta-tests as well, will say it again: Russian loca is bad. That's the kindest way of describing it really.

I won't talk about balancing and bugfixes, 'cos this should be done even if we remain silent, and won't talk about the new content as well: stabilize the current version first.
P.S.: Better Council Hub cutscenes? I don't care. Maybe as a little bonus point later.

1) Memory leaks gone.

Yesterday a game crashed on me on the very final battle of the map, due to memory shortage (game ate ~7.7 GB at the end of that map). I've since tried to reload it twice, with same result. Checking the log shows that it crashes due to missing filenames. File validation checks out, though, it's purely a lack of memory. Why loading a savegame would add 3+ Gbyte to memory consumption, while the start of the map is just a few hundred MBytes is beyond me. Optimalisation is essential, especially to run the game across longer game sessions.

2) Map Editor improvements.

I've not yet tried it, but I've read enough people posting about it to know it could use a lot of love and polish. Examples of what the editor can do based on the ingame maps and campaigns would be a godsend too, even if those are read-only. Teach by example.

3) Skillwheel redesign.

The current skillwheels don't allow for much flexibility. The whole system was designed with "free pick" in mind, while in previous titles the random element on level up added to replayability. This aspect was underestimated during game design of both H6 and H7. Furthermore, a number of classes have near-similar skillwheels, reducing class differentiation. Also, some skills are "must-have", further reducing value of other skills on the pizza.

4) Better AI overall.

Really tied for 2nd place with the Map Editor, but I had to make a choice . The AI makes a number of questionable decisions, where an improved AI would choose something else.

5) More content in the form of individual maps.

Older Heroes titles had a load of maps, across all sizes. Some were single player scenarios, others skirmishes. But all in all, enough to keep you busy for a while. Although I think that H7 has more maps than H6, it's still on the short side.

I've kept the below suggestion because it was in my initial one, but I've added another since then.
Lower than 5) Animated Council briefings.

The brown/sepia colored campaign intermissions where you're moving through the clouds, between various scenes are absolutely great and hit the mark. In contrast, the current still-frame council member talks completely miss that artistic style and look absurd.

1) Memory leaks gone and bugs fixed. I guess this is trivial.
2) More spells and larger difference between them. Add some new spells and make them as distinct as possible to fill up the large amount of spell schools with meaningful content.
3) Pseudo 7 tier system. If changing the 3 tier creature system is out of scope then just give each creature more power and higher production costs to have a feel of gradual progress.
4) One more neutral. Or two, I guess this is achievable.
5) More distinct upgrades, more creature abilities. Many base creatures are not enough distinct from their upgrades (visually). Some look like they were just slightly recolored. Special abilities are somewhat few in general.

1) Better Optimization
- No more crashes
- Smoother play for lower end systems

2) Game Enrichement and UI
- More unit sound/voices
- More music tracks
- More adventure map objects with bigger variety of bonuses etc
- More Maps
- More battle maps
- If a unit has "cover" in battle map, it should be said or showed.

3) Game Hub
- A hub on the site or somewhere else, or a "shop" within the game that mods, maps, and other custom or official made stuff can be easily found, downloaded and added to the game

4) AI
- Issues in battle fixed
- - Ranged units defend instead of attacking
- - Some units prefer to move vertical instead of forward or diagonal

5) More Content
- Regular patches
- Small additions to map maker and existing multiplayer or single player maps such as battle map objects and artifacts
- Neutral units introduced to game
- Maybe add Duel of Champions as an option to play directly from the game

PS: Old Lich and Old Vampire introduced in the game as Necropolis Neutral units.

1. Properly working multiplayer both for LAN and for Internet. The Game just doesn't exist for me without multiplayer. For now I am unable to finish not a single game session.
2. My turn doesn't interrupted by the opponent's battle neither for simultaneous turns nor for alternate turns. Never. I hate this feature. I prefer to look around and inspect the map while I'm waiting for my opponent to finish his turn.
3. Better combat AI. No additional words here, just teach him how to use certain combat trick and tacktics.
4. Better AI for adventure map.
5. Increase the number and variety of obstacles on the battle arena.

1) Memory leaks gone

2) Better AI - especially in combat

3) Heroes:
   - Some hero classes are too similar.
   - Please add a few more Heroes, so there are at least 2 per class
   - Some hoes seem to have the wrong class (example: Kaspar should be an embalmer, not a death knight)

4) More maps

5) Removal of the ability to retreat after engaging an army. This feature allows you to see exact stack numbers without the need of scouting and completely breaks diplomacy. The only time I would deem it necessary is when units offer to join. You might not have the room or the money to accept, so then it would be nice to be able to come back later. In all other cases it simplifies and slows the game and is therefore unwanted.

Or at least add their models to the map editor so they can be used. They have costed time and money, so it would be a waste to just throw them away.

Hey I have an idea! Why don’t you reuse all remaining H6 models (which you don’t plan to use in expansions) for neutrals. I guess no one would protest (not sure, so maybe this could be discussed in another thread) and it would give a significant boost to the content.

2) bug bugs bugs (i'm looking at you healing, see Ravel's post)
3) more heroes per class
4) balance spells, exp gain, creature growth
5) more diversity between classes, almost every hero is the same!!!
6) AI really needs some fixing, feel free to reuse script/ideas from previous games like you did with graphics.

2) Fix the fact that one has to port forward/disable firewall to create a game

3) Fix the '999 latency', unable to join lobbies bugs

4) Remove the waiting screen while opponents are in combat in multiplayer

Multiplayer is completely unplayable right now, which is unacceptable.

1. Content - More Maps AND more Heroes per class. I'd love both. Even if you make some more of the campaign heroes playable I'd be happy, like Khalida (please give her a female djinn hero model), Menan and Sandalphon. More choice, more variation, without interrupting balance too much obviously.

Side note: Because Sandalphon is basically an Orna copy, let him boost abbots or something as a specialty and tweak some skills. It also ties in with his lore. You've technically got some spare heroes already so it could be an idea to use them. And Ajit, make him playable and give him a Thieves Guild bonus or something. Just some ideas.

2. Make Kaspar an Embalmer and Agathin a Ranger please. Some things are abominations and need to be corrected.

3. Saturation increase please. Desert maps actually look pretty vibrant, I find it's mainly grass and "Haven" themed areas that look especially dry and boring. But overall wouldn't hurt either.

4. More spells for each school, and not just damage spells, interesting things. Like that Arcane Barrier we saw in the very first gameplay video, and the subsequent dispel. Even if it's just an overland map spell that increases wall HP of a town or something and lasts 2-3 turns.

5. Optimization, memory leaks, load times. The really necessary stuff.

1 - fix the crashes, and loading times (I uninstalled the game after 2-3 days based on these 2 issues alone)

2 - increase hero level cap (level 80-100 would be a good cap when combined with point #3 below...)

3 - decrease the freakin' experience gain from battles (goes well with point #2 above)

4 - add more spells. No, wait! Add MANY more spells! I usually play magic heroes and I only see the same 10-15 spells over and over again, in each game. Geezus....

5 - increase default movement of the heroes on the adventure map. Even with logistics, boots, adventure map bonuses, boots, and even with that skill that doubles the adventure map bonuses my hero's movement still sucks. It moves a few steps and that's it. Boring, boring, boring...

Haven't touched the multiplayer yet so....

1. Bugs with creature skills. They should be all work properly and it's ruining the fun when they don't.

2. AI, I know I'm a great heroes player and all but even with h5 and h6 I couldn't just start off the bat playing on the hardest setting with no problem. The AI makes some terrible decisions with unit priorities and moving around the battlefield. (Btw, hardest heroes setting == 0 resources )

3. Heroes specials- please do something to make invidual units more special. Scaling stat bonus with +1 movement or +2 damage or something with their ability. When I pick a main hero, I also like to be picking say.. "a favorite unit for that game" if you will.  Oh and remove level cap

4. More content. Maps are few and amount of heroes is low. Some classes only have one hero??? And WHEN the hero specials get changed, you're going to need more heroes so each(or most) unit is a hero's special.

5. New black dragon.
