~ Heroes I and II (Game Boy) - Discussion thread ~

Welcome to the thread dedicated to Heroes of Might and Magic I and II, for Game Boy console.

Developer: KnowWonder
Publisher: 3DO
Release date: Year 2000
Factions: Castle, Rampart, Stronghold, Dungeon (Fortress in second)

Well, in this era, when a lot of people are disappointed about the release of Erwin's Heroes VII, maybe presenting this old game for Game Boy console I have been recently playing by using the emulator may cheer you up.

After all, a hardcore Heroes fan (or Might and Magic fan) should at least know of these two games, right? The only thread on this forum is this one.

The reason why this thread is about two games is simply because they are very similar to each other; the graphics and the gameplay are basically the same, just that Heroes II has few more features.

Maybe some of you are curious about it. If so, come then, post your questions and I'll try my best to answer them.

Agreed. It's much more practical on mobile or tablet, though.

Not certain if that is to be expected from Game Boy console, though. Still, it takes less space than original Heroes I and II, I think.

Well, the differences are that PC H2 has six factions, while the Game Boy one has four: Fortress, Stronghold, Castle and Rampart. Different spells, too. Also, the number of factions is four, per map. Also, one can't decide which faction to play with (it's always random). In addition, one can have five units per hero.

As for AI, there's dumb, normal and smart AI options.

Well, most of the heroes from Heroes II and Heroes III are being used in these Game Boy editions.

I don't know of any database about it, but I could add some things, here and there, in a few days. Artifacts will be the most difficult ones, I think, for all those other things are listed in-game, one way or another.

The one I had, the first one, was heroes 1 just on the game boy. Same line ups, you always played a 4 player ffa, same buildings and heroes. I spent so much time on the game boy one as a kid lol it's why I have such a deep appreciation of heroes 1

The 2nd one I never could find but I know each factions best guy was a dragon lol. Probably where Erwin took his inspiration.

All right, here are some images.

The starting screen:

The overland:

And, uh, the "townscreen":

Luckily, the latter was corrected in the sequel, where it got an actual townscreen.

I think the artifacts from Heroes GB are actually the same ones from Heroes II (PC version), at least by effects and names. Here's the list from H2.

Anything else you people want to know?

Closest to it is Clash of Heroes, I guess. There's also a Might & Magic RPG for mobile, I believe. But no Heroes on DS... yet.
