no there is a diffrence in what u get offered
for example:
a necromance get offered skills from death group (and combat), if u add now say life nothing will change u will still get offered death but if u change class to dark priest (with adding a second skill in life, u will not manage this with leveling) u will get now offered skills from death and life

Thats what i called 'dominant skills': you are most likely to get those skills that are highly developped. Still just the name 'Dark Priest'.
Dont get me wrong, i like that there are specials, most are just not powerful or useful enough.
Take the Dark Priest, its a spellcaster, not a melee attacker like the vampire. But on the other side of this example, its also quite nice: If he has combat you might stand for an interesting choice casting spell or doing damage.
Btw>> I actually think the Bard special it pretty good.

as far as i know the hole idea was to give the dominant skills a name, the boni did come much later in development, more like a last minute adition
but u are right some are not nearly as usefull as others
(no wonder when they were added such late in development)
a rework of the classes would be something for the expansion pack here i agree with most here (my point was only that the hole idea was a diffrent one in the beginning)
what i would also like to see is more compinations with 3 or more skills, i would move the the archmage to a compination of at least 4 skills and maybe as boni some spells with access similar to demologist
such things i would like to see in an expansion much more then an additional town 8which wouldnīt fit anyway)
maybe we should make a list and send it to 3do :-)

what's the big deal??
what do u care about bards?(they should be drunk anyway like any other bard and pass out in battle). when the hack did u gain scoting and nature magic??? i only gain combat + other prim skill. u can't play without combat! and u develop combat and starting primary skill eventualy(why do u play whith asylum if you don't whant scouting and chaos magic for instance?)
anyway , if u want a primary skill that u can use effectively (other than starting) get tactics. or nobility. but u won't develope it so muck so u can switch between paladin/general/ranger/fireguard/assasin(by the way, they should kill a hero instantly)/battle mage/warlord and a brand new advanced class.
only in order campaign i became other than thoose classes above (illusionist) and that's because i found an altar of tactics
3do lied to us. we can't choose skills. we're forced to learn combat, and develop it (at least combat & resistance) and that means 10 levels. if there wasn't from those altars and universities... bye bye other skills.
homm4 is f''king fine anyway. i like cenerals and fireguards, if u would ask.

sorry but i didnīt play any map yet where i had to take combat. sure it gets offered nearly each time until u get around level 10 but u also get 2 skills out of your main skill offered.
what does this mean on strategic choices:
1.) i can make my hero harder to kill with combat if i choose so
2.) until lv 10 your main skills are not nearly at GM, so i can choose to get very good in one group of skills instead of being medicore
3.) 10 levels are mostly enought to find a way to choose what second skill i want to develop (there are many ways and u are not forced like in h3 with witchhut to take it)
so if skills would be more random at low levels there would be no way to develope skills how i want. so i have the option to do what i want, either get good in one skill and wait until after lv 10 where i get a random class or develop a class with combat early or look for the right skill on map
sure some classes are harder to get but in the way the magic sytem is it should be harder to get for example life-death then life combat

The Bard? In the nature campaign of course. He starts as a druid (nature magic), and since Scouting is the very best skill to choose, you end up with a Bard.
Maximum luck is good for the same reasons as picking Combat and Resistance; it makes your hero last longer. So also magic heroes can certainly use those 2 skills of combat, as additional protection against attacks while casting spells.

Man!!!...I say you're so f**kin lucky. I've spent my last months playin homm4 and i've never became anything but advanced classes who implicate combat. I mean i became once an illusionist(and i kept being an illusionist), but only once, and several times ninja, field marshal, etc, but i ended as a general/ranger/ etc .. because combat is what I needed and my heroes who I(?!) grew up couldn't make up without combat and magic resistance. I hate carying dozens and scores of dragons/titans/angels with me. I like playing with little armies, using better tactics and better spells. What's the big pleasure killing few bandits with dosens of titans?? I like killing 56 behemots and 60 ciclopes with two heroes. Even in homm3 I was beating throng earth elementals with 9 zealots, 50 marksmen and 6 champions. Maybe none of you got my ideea. This game is "HEROES" not armies. So, if combat makes heroes stronger and more resistant, why bother about some classes like bards? I would like to make my hero a ninja, but i'm "forced" (in a way) to make him an assasin. Playing homm4 without combat is like playing homm3 without earth magic or wisdom.
