According to the math +5 would be 20,8% and +6 would be 25%, but +5 or +6 is also a lot.
It's like you max morale and luck way too easy at +3 and then there are even heroes specialising in Fortune and buildings and grails that give morale and luck, it's unneccessary a lot of the time.

I would allow Leadership and Luck to raise the max level of luck and morale. For example Basic Leadership would allow you to have 4 morale at max (and still give +1 morale as usual) Adv. Leadership would allow you to have 5 morale at max and so on.
However I feel that even this could make some things more balanced, this could be too much for Hota team's taste

extra damage caused by Luck for Melodia and Daremyth could be increased +25%+1%xlevel...

Just make Melodia and Daremyth cast Fortune on all creatures in the beginning of the fight. There would be no level scaling needed.

Disable Flying Spell

I've been playing HotA a lot the past few months and there's one thing I could do in WoG that I can't seem to do here...disable the "Flying" spell.  I hate that spell as it's just too much of an advantage.  If I'm playing a medium or larger map and a computer opponent acquires it, it's basically game over.  Even in the games where I also acquired it, it still ended the challenge of the game for me.

Unless there's already a way to do it that I'm not aware of...it would be fantastic if HotA could add a toggle or some way to make that spell off limits.

Thanks

Afaik, there's no instant way of doing that. However, you can always edit every map with Map editor.

Play default or user created map

1) Open map editor.
2) Go File and then choose Open.
3) Just choose and open a map you wish to edit from the list.
4) Go Tools and choose Map Specifications.
5) Choose spells -> Untoggle Fly.
6) Save and you're good to go.

Play random map

1) Go to the game and then create random map.
2) Simply exit game. (no need to save)
3) Open Map editor.
4) Go File and Choose Open.
5) Go to the game's files and choose random_maps.
(In my case, the path looks like this 3DO->Heroes Complete-> random_maps.)
6) Choose the map you just created (look at the file's date)
7) Go Tools and choose Map Specifications.
8) Choose spells -> Untoggle Fly.
9) Save.
10) Launch Hota again and start a new game
11) Choose random maps
12) Choose "Show random maps" from the bottom.
13) Choose the map you just created (prob. the last one on the list)
14) Enjoy Fly-free gameplay

Thanks Hourglass!  Great idea!

I only play random maps and I'll give your directions a try next session.  I also don't replay random maps, so I can just clear the directory before I start and know the only random map there is the one I just created

Yeah! But that doesn't work for random. Even if you desable the spell it is probably already in some Pandora Boxes and almost surelly in some spellscrolls, too.

Hmmm...the only time I acquired "Flying" was a couple days ago when I visited a Conflux Mage Guild that had every spell available.  Would the disable directions from Hourglass still work in that case?

Sure +3 is easy to get but for additional stacks up to 6 you need much more effort aka map objects/spells (losing travel points/spellpoints). It works for me since the spells are as good a never used (mirth, sorrow), (fortune, misfortune) it would be a new component. First of all HotA introduced negative Luck the first time and it was a big step in the correct direction. Still it needs long term testing how a "Pendant Of Courage" reacts with expert Leadership/Fortune in case of +6 Luck/Moral. One partial solution would also be to put the Pendant on relic state. In that case "Hourglass Of Evil Hour" needs to be upgraded one mor more grades. Also: This update would buff Castle and Rampart while Necropolis would get some nerfs (again).

As for "Fly" its damn inferior to DD and TP... I never use it 'coz already mentioned spells are much better tbh.

Quote:
The story behind the Forge closely follows the conclusion to Might and Magic VII, more in particularly the ending to those heroes who succeeded on the Path of Darkness. Archibald's former advisors regroup, discovering a mysterious and powerful ancient artifact known only as the Heavenly Forge. Armed with this power, the advisors can create an entirely new base of operations, known as the Forge, a futuristic wonder world of cogs, wheels, and factories capable of creating fierce robot warriors that wield powerful hi-tech weaponry. Archibald's advisors pitch their camp at their new base of operations and begin to build. Their object is nothing less than the conquest of Erathia.

A little more insight on how powerful this mighty creation is (was), is the history behind the weaponry which was manufactured in Forge factories. As you can see, Might and Magic VII opened up a lot of references to the Heavenly Forges. Examples of these weapons are below:

Sublime Spear - A smithy symbol and date stamp indicate this spear was made in the magical forges of Governor Padish 12 years before the Silence.

Golden Chain Mail - A very rare suit of armor turned out by the Heavenly Forges of Governor Padish before the Silence. The armor was originally worn strictly by the Governor's highest military officers as a badge of office. It is not just for show; this chain mail is lighter, stronger, and more supple than any other chain in the world.

Governor's Armor - Owned by Colonial Governor Padish at the Time of Silence, this fantastic armor has resurfaced in many of the great treasure hoards throughout history. Like most creations turned out by the Heavenly Forge, it is nearly indestructible, and its like can no longer be made by any forge in the land.

Majestic Shield - The dark, golden color of these shields is actually a flaw. About 50 of these sheidls were turned out by the Heavenly Forge as it began to fail. Although imperfect they are second only to shields built by the Forge in its prime.

Believe me when I say this, that all of these weapons and armor are state of the art as well as being beautifully manufactured. This is also straight evidence that the Forge is not just about creating cybornetic monstrosities, that is Archibald's dream.

Friends, you know what is to be done.

Didn't know it would not disable it completely. I can see why disabled spells would appear in scrolls, but are you sure about pandoras boxes?

However, WytchCrypt, if you're willing to block Fly, I suggest still trying the way I mentioned, as it still disables Fly from mage guilds, tome of air, spellbinder's hat and from Conflux grail building.

That's what I did for last nights game.  Played the same random map as the one that destroyed me with an enemy "Flying".  No one acquired "Flying", instead I was destroyed by "Dimension Door" so decided to add that (and "Town Portal") to my disable list too

Makes sense. Or you could do like me and have Town Portal to any town work only for AI and Dimension Door only 1 cast per day.
Fly is okay in my book, although Angel Wings are debateable.

Ya, my big problem with those spells is once the strongest AI hero gets them, it's game over.  After spending hours learning all the terrain and developing a strategy of attack I have no chance to trap or chase them down.  It's like I'm stuck playing checkers while the AI is playing chess

What's worse a few nights ago, a powerful AI hero had Flying and just flew around to all fully developed towns recruiting only the highest level creature stacks from each.  I came face to face with an army made up of only Archangels, Arch Devils, Behemoths, Firebirds, Dragons, etc.  Nothing left to do but laugh I guess

WytchCrypt Are you new to the game? Which difficulty do you play on and are you playing a specific scenario, campaign or random map??
I would like to give you some hints if you are having trouble against the AI. For starters get Wisdom, Earth Magic and Logistics on your main hero and you are on your way to victory. If you are playing with OP Dimension Door you need to get Air Magic too, so you can catch up with the opponents. Offense and Armorer are also very good. Shackles of War is the best artifact you can get, eliminate the enemy hero and take all his artifacts also allows unlimited resurrection/animate dead as long as you have mana.

No, not new...began playing the original release in the late 90's (I even had the official guidebook :-)  Played WoG until about 2007.  Took 10 years off then jumped back in with HotA a few months back.  I created all my own custom hero portraits and names but don't make my own maps or any custom objects.  Always play vs the computer, these days I like medium size random maps with underground, no water, random # of computer heroes, at 130% difficulty.  Don't like campaigns or pre defined missions, I love the surprise of random maps and having to memorize where the gates and above/below ground caves put me :-)

Thanks for the tips!  Always good to hear what works for others :-)

My basic strategy is usually, add a 2nd hero immediately, take his troops for my main hero and send him out to scavenge resources.  Get to the Capitol ASAP while loading up on whatever troops/tools
match the special abilities of my main hero.  If anything I'm probably a bit too conservative about loading up my main hero with troops/magic before I go raiding.  Then again, I play 130% difficulty because I win about 80% of the games at 100% difficulty so it's my own fault I've been getting pounded lately

Hey WytchCrypt, I got some single scenarios for solo playing for you: http://imperium.heroes.net.pl/post/78704#p78704

There was a tournament, which goal was to beat a map as fastest as possible (heroes-time). So u can download the map, beat it, then compare your time with other challangers. It was very enjoyable experiance for me to participate in this tour.

Obviously though u'll need help of google translate to download the 5 maps.

If u need my help, i can send u direct links to the maps.

Hey WytchCrypt, if you are having difficulties at 130% I would recommend you follow some guys on Twitch or watch some YouTube videos. At 200% I usually have 8 heroes before the end of week 3, just to give an example.

These two are really good.

1. Get troops before Capitol, troops allow you to get resources from the map.
2. Take gold instead of XP from chests.
3. Use fodders in creeping to avoid loosing too much troops.

Just these three points alone should make you a considerable better player.
