I wholeheartedly agree with Jenova. Although I do want some of my own creature picks to be in the roster, a better Preserve, and a more original alignment system (been done with Magic the Gathering and Master of Magic), I think we have to be realistic and realize that NOT ALL the creatures everyone likes will be in the game. As for the abilities, I kinda like them, even the white tiger's (despite my undying hate for it). If u guys play Magic, u'll notice HOMM is a lot like it, with several creatures having the same abilities and spell similarities.
As for u Wesley, u REALLY don't have to state ur opinions as if they were facts. That habit's just gunna get u in guarded conflicts. For one thing, I hate all the creatures that u had listed... I think humans are boring too, but (A)it's been universal to have a 'human' town and (B)some people like the human town. 3D0 can't grant only one person's wishes so that's how they came up with HOMM IV because a lot of people demanded for these new features. Maybe a majority of the players didn't find Manticores and Basilisks too interesting or Death Knights too uncreative so that's pry why theyre not there.
And how do u know the Asylum is SUPPOSED to be anti-human?

Well... I got inspired by reading AD&D books !
Nice to hear you like my idea, Weasly. There's only one thing I'm confused with: Grim Reaper. What is it? Is it the Death as I suppose? If it is I disagree it should be as a creature (mayby as a "god" if there would be gods. He would bless with more undead and by coming into the combat and harvesting people). I mean, there is only one Death and I think killing him is impossible. It would be confusing to have scores of Deaths in your army. Otherwise I like your towns!

Grim Reaper
Are creatures that collect the deaths from earth, they take them to their realm of death or to heaven, there are more Grim Reapers, it's not the Death in every story.

There should be 2 more towns and a slight reshuffling of units and a few new ones.
Right now the opposites are like so:
Life-Death
Order-Chaos
Nature-???
Might-basically all of them
There should be one more Might type town that ignores magic, but with different units of course and there should be a true opposite for the Nature town. Either something like the Drow or a town that utilizes technology (kinda like the Arcanum-style, but not the same units that were initially the Forge). I mean, c'mon..what's the opposite of Nature?? Technology or a dark opposite like Drow.
The new might-type town could be a Sea Town and the anti-Preserve town could be one more evil town.
There are 3 "good" towns...Haven, Academy, and Preserve
There are only 2 "bad" towns...Asylum and Necropolis
and there's only 1 neutral town..Stronghold
So adding 1 more bad town and 1 more neutral town would round things out (hmm, more like HOMM3).
And there should be at least one additional level of units per town. So basically two more units per town.

I've also been thinking about those opposites. Your mechanical sounds great! What units there should be? My first idea about the opposite of nature is witchcraft (maybe inferno) which spells would be exploitations of other ones (like voodoo doll*, magic leech, steal enchantment, curse flow**).
And about another might town? Fortress. Just like in HOMM III, Stronghold would be great with attack, while Fortress with defence.
*this level five spell greates a copy of an enemy at the line of sight which is put near the caster. When you attack the doll, the damage will be done to the enemy. Doll doesn't do retallions or attack. Enemy's defence is reduced to zero and the defensive specials (minotaurs) doesn't work. The number of creatures in one "doll" depends on the level of caster. Doesn't work on undead creatures.
**you can take curses on one of your troops and put them on a enemy troop.

Order is not actually good it's more neutral. They are more concerned about the balance of things, such as good and evil, life and death, so you can't really say they're on the good side.
But I know what you're getting at.. if you consider them opposite to Chaos, then you consider Chaos and Death to be evil, and thus need an evil opposite for Nature, but I don't really consider any of them to be good and evil except Life and Death.

Erm...so? i mean are you trying to tell me you(a squire) exactly the same as mike tyson(a crusader)? There are a lot of differences:
*he bites, you dont
*he scares with his looks, you prolly dont
quit whining there are enough creatures. oh and about humans...humans are the most influential creatures of all...they can be persuaded and manipulated with the most ease...so why shouldnt they serve the dark forces? they serve it because of greed, anger and fear. bleah. morons.
there are 5 creatures able to be built in every town. thats not very few...and if you havent noticed: homm4 is concentrated more on the HEROES of might and magic part of it... so either stay in and stop whining or get out and turn your capslock on. and whine on.

With regard to the alignment discussion. HoMMIV is exactly like Magic: The Gathering, except with the addition of a neutral faction.
Don't think of any side having just one opposite, or in terms of good guys/bad guys. Every faction has two allies and two enemies, except for Might which is neutral toward everyone.
Life: Allies - Order, Nature Enemies: Death, Chaos
Order: Allies - Life, Death Enemies: Nature, Chaos
Death: Allies - Order, Chaos Enemies: Life, Nature
Chaos: Allies - Death, Nature Enemies: Life, Order
Nature: Allies - Life, Chaos Enemies: Death, Order
Each type of magic also has it's own specialties, just like in MtG (this is not all they can do, of course, just specialties)
Life: Protection and Healing
Order: Illusions and Mind affecting spells
Death: Weakening opponents and raising the dead
Chaos: Damage - both directly and through creature buffs
Nature: Summoning and buffing creatures
In a way, it's sad just how exactly like M:tG it all is, but at least it's a decent framework if they're going to steal one...
