Is Heroes 3 really the best game in the series
I've never played other heroes games but watched them on the internet and they didn't attract me.
Graphics of Heroes 1 and 2 are too bad. Heroes 4 looks kinda frivolous especially creatures. I don't really feel that it is created after Heros 3. In Heroes 5 creatures are so cartoonish but stil somewhat better than Heroes 4 but still "meh". Also I really don't like exaggereted creatures. Why making somewhat unusual skeleton man creature instead of giving it to just sword?
Heroes 3 is also the most user friendly game as far as I see.

are you being serious Elvin? One of the stregths of H3 definitely lies in the uniqueness and coolness of the creatures. You can't tell me that you don't like how dread knights, titans, mighty gorgons, archdevils, or magic elementals look like, cause I won't believe you

H3 is no doubt the best in the series.
H5 is not bad though and it seems to take a lot of inspiration from H3.

H3 truly is the greatest in the series. Timeless classic.
H5 follows very close behind, but falls short in creature design and colouration imho. The colours in H5 are just so bright, and make it kinda look cartoonish. But it does have some very nice aspects to it. So it comes in hot on the heels of H3.

Elvin is right. It may look good, but that does not necessarily mean it's a good game. While it's art style certainly adds to its charms, good and/or uniqueness of design, art, and creatures is just the icing on top really.
To use a more modern example. Anthem. It looked great, amazing even. All the alpha footage was breathtaking. But you can't build a game on pretty graphics alone. Anthem is a hollow, lackluster game. A flaming pile of dog **** that has had glitter sprinkled on top of it. Graphics rarely make a game.

It is just my point everyone may have different priorities just I always find realism and realist designs. Heroes 3 has the most realistic creatures in spite of being fantasy-based game.

Undoubtedly. And with HotA, it’s an absolute masterpiece. And I agree about the art.. it’s absolutely thought-provoking - and it’s a lot less game-intrusive than than the bland Erwinite H5 lore, leaving much to imagination. I’ve been doing some worldbuilding stuff.. and I dream of somehow capturing the “feeling” of those great nations (in particular... surprise, surprise.. Nighon! lol).
That being said.. I’m probably in the minority here... but I think that something similar to the heroes 4 formula could be an amazing and amazingly flexible game. If it was done properly.. lol. Heroes 4 was rushed by a bankrupt 3DO.. and that’s at least partly why it ended up like it did. -.-

You may be in the minority but you are not alone. I always felt like Heroes IV should have been the best of all but there is no redemption to that AI. While I'm not sure about creatures moving alone, sinergic heroes are completely over the top and I do believe the skill tree is the best ever. Simple but fulfilling all necessities.

H4 had some decent features but I absolutely hated that combat grid(no chess feel anymore), the economy(city hall 2500 gold, 10 wood/ore, 5 gems/crystal just to get 250 gold/day wtf), the annoying building requirements(like citadel as a dwelling requirement :/), that dreadful simultaneous retaliation(blargh), the daily growth(don't give me army in pitiful doses, I want the full package dammit) and the copy-paste magic skills. I also don't think that 5 level masteries was for the best, that only made heroes more one-dimensional. First 20 levels you'd master one skill and half-master another which doesn't do wonders for build variation.
Oh and I missed upgrades. I much prefer the concept of alternative upgrades over alternative units, provided they help the hero pursue specialized gameplay.

The possibility of more than one heroes on the battlefield, music, atmosphere, caravans, flaggable dwellings, advanced classes, campaigns, demonology summons, adventure map perspective, one special for each unit, new spell mechanics or the hero special skills(creature summoning, vampire necromancy, resurrection after combat etc) were nice though. Also much as I dislike an overly tight economy, it was a good idea to make gold mines as available and essential as the other mines.
Bad game no but it could use some massive overhaul and improvement ^^

When you started THEN or earlier playing, then H3 is best, because at the time it felt like nothing else before. Everyone could suddenly dabble with the editor and put their ideas into a map, and when the "hidden" map stuff started (the graphics geometry allow "hiding" stuff, so that it can't be seen; the only hints are mouse cursor changes and hero pathways), things got absolutely legendary.
H4 could have been a lot better than the game it actually ended as. Although, it's the better game tghan 3 in many respects, it also marks the end on an era, and is stigmatized as the game that ended everything.
And that's it, for everyone old enough to be there. No game can ever trump that, no matter how good it is.
For today's standards, I think, H3 is a great mobile game, and as a mobile game it would still be addictive like hell. Sitting in front of a real screen, though, with an I7 and stuff, H5 is probably better (and you get 5.5 as well, as you get a wealth of fan-made stuff with 3).

Now I can't not imagine H3 with in app purchases. Unlock new archangel skin for 2€, buy map bundle for 15€! Oh dear.

No give me Heroes 3, Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, TLOZ: Ocarina of Time, TLOZ: Majoras Mask, Blast Corps, Killer Instinct, Tekken and Soul Calibur and I'll have an awesome time.

What I mean is, H3 SoD, as it was, would still be a great mobile game, but as a PC game (for young people) today it doesn't really cut it for a number of reasons.

Lol, I've played exactly one of those games (guess which one  ) and only know the title of another ... all the others are unknown to me .

You should play them Maurice, they are awesome games, even though they are about 20 years old.
Graphics are bad by todays standards, but does it really matter?
N64 is the best gaming machine ever or perhaps I'm just clouded by nostalgia.
Should perhaps note that I also played most of the newer versions of Killer Instinct, Tekken and Soul Calibur.

H3 and H4 are the best for me. I can give you one example, H4. You give AI bonuses to town, and AI gets creatures, but you capture a town in H4 you give a AI bonuses to hero. And hero's troops grow as Hexis.  a very hard game, what I like. I also like losing game by master. Ok what about H3? Because I can't play in Windows 10. Only quickcombat works well. I have harddisk in Win7, so I buy a new machine, and I put the Win7 harddisk to new machine. Then H4's turn. Ok I don't play H4 Equilibris. Because of disabled guy has created full wrong. When WoG or HotA is much more reasonable. I don't also play HotA more. I'm satisfied with H3, H4 and WoG. So equally strong. Also would be nice AlphaZero plays Heroes. I think it will come before 2025, someone can create AI MOD to unreal tournament for example. If you know about Nikola chess by display card, GPU, and we already have Leela by GTX1050 in false start. You should to find out. Yeah before 2025, we can try playing against AI MOD in Heroes.
