Not sure what can fit in the available space, am already used to and comfortable with small screens. The only time two screens could maybe come in handy is if I'm translating, but CAT software should already take care of viewing both texts at the same time, and a screen is expensive! Thank you for the extensive breakdown of my options!

To give you an idea of what you can use extra screens for, I'll break down what I am using my three screens for:

The left one is communications, searches and notes. So video calls, instant messaging, dictionary, sticky notes, calculator, etc. Plus extra space when needed for additional SAP instances and the like.

The middle one is main work space. Main web browser, office instances(excel, word, adobe, powerpoint), SAP, company proprietary systems, etc. that are being worked on.

The right one is email, secondary web browser(sharepoint) and secondary office instances, SAP, etc. that are being referenced for work on main space. Plus extra space when working with multiple instances at the same time.

I generally work on anywhere between one to dozen nested tasks simultaneously and from my experience you can comfortably fit two simple tasks or one regular one on 1980x1200 24" screen at a distance of one meter(roughly 3~ foot). Making them smaller limits the functionality and hinders work. For complex tasks involving multiple systems and sources of information, I run out of screen space...

During a translation task, for example, the left one is dictionary + communication, the middle one is the translation program itself and right one is the original source(vertical is awesome~.) Now my email are blocked by the source but that's fine in this case since I generally work on non-time critical tasks like this during quiet hours.

At home I have two screens that are utilized as follows:

Left one for the main program(primary game, movie, office, coding, etc.) with the right one for auxiliaries(second screen in games that make use of more than one, music player, web browser, secondary game during gaming/movie, secondary movie during gaming, communications, additional office/coding instances and file browsers etc.)

That's a short breakdown of how you might utilize the extra space during work/freetime to give you some ideas. Yes screens are expensive. Yes they take some space on the desk. And yes they are definitely worth it. If you have an option of some old leftover screens or TVs, try it out. Even if you don't get one now, it's easy to add one later as well if you find it working out for you.

I do have a very old one available, might try it out. Sounds radically different from my workflow though.
Decided to scrap the expensive AF keyboard, gonna go to a shop and ask for advice/try a couple out. Maybe I find something more comfortable than a laptop keyboard that I wouldn't have known to be an option
Speakers screen(s?) ditto.

GPU downgrade, CPU upgrade for longevity, okay. I'm a bit paranoid about GPUs, never got to play the new games as they came out as a kid, but I'm mature enough to realize that my gaming is stuck in the past, which does not require top GPUs. I sure hope though that I'll be able to at least try the new Baldur's Gate on low settings though. Should be fine. Keeping the extra HDD though, I'm fed up with barely any room for anything.

If I were you I'd buy the Ryzen 3600 and a GTX 1070 as my priority, then work from there. 1060 doesn't support SLI if you'll ever decide on an upgrade down the road. Though for running Baldur's Gate you're completely fine either way. Joonas makes good points, keep in mind when building your PC staying future-proof is also a factor.

now, go buy the coolest computer that ever existed and make us proud... well, not me, cause I didn't contribute anything to this topic, but make the others proud xD

and maybe one day I, too, will have as much money as you to buy the computer of my dreams... one day...

If things don't change, I'm getting it for Xmas. Things have the chance to change though

Here is a more or less list. Might go with a cheaper GPU and ofc everything is more expensive in Hungary. Keyboard+speakers, and unfortunately I also need a headphone+mic combo. No extra cooling unit, trusting the case

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LBVJFt

Dad says he's partial to 21 inch screens, so I'm gonna be keeping an eye out

Black Friday/Cyber Monday is your best bet if you are in an affiliated country. You should look for any good discounts on parts then and get what fits. Having 30% off on a GPU could mean a $80, with which you could double your storage, for example. You don't have to buy everything from the same vendor as you're putting it together yourself, just pick the best deals and see what you're missing once the dust settles

Welcome to personal economics, you could also buy a car for that money or fly to Athens to smash Elvin in a duel.

BTW. Either of those graphics cards in my pcpartpicker builds will run Baldur's Gate and any other title on FullHD resolution(1980x1080) with maxed out graphics so no worries there. If you do end up getting a higher resolution monitor(2560x1440) then RX580 is going to be too slow.

Much as I love Elvin, ever since my old laptop died not having a decent machine has been a pain in the butt. This is also a professional investment, as I said it will be a proper workstation and will pay dividends. Bit scared to commit to meeting in person, I'm a difficult guest If I start actually earning money, I'll give Athens a go

As if I could. My occasional victories are statistical anomalies and indicators of imbalance.

Found candidates for keyboard and screen, will edit them in, prospective price for all of it comes to about 1370 usd, which is more expensive by about 340 usd than what would have been ideal, but it's not as bad as it could have been.

That is a 1600 x 900 monitor so if you are set on that you can make do with a rather weak GPU, saving money there. RX580 should be more than enough to drive that.

Pressure was on to make it cheaper, so I made some storage changes( ditched hdd for now, went for a samsung 860 evo ssd) and switched the video card for the rx 580. Keyboard will be a logitech k120, this leaves about 100 dollars for an ips 60 screen

a 1600 X 900 monitor will give you scaling problems when watching any HD or FHD content. If you can't scale something 2:1, it becomes blurry.

I'd honestly recommend going for 1920x1080 instead, which is a very "safe" pick.

Remember that RX580s are huge, draw lots of power and (unless you target specific ones) make lots of noise under load. The ones that I tested which were fairly silent - Red Devil and Sapphire Nitro. AVOID cheaper ones like XFX Black series, they sound like a jet engine.

I used to have quite a few of those cards as I mined cryptocurrency on them for a while.

Joonas' tips are pretty much spot on, so you can't go wrong following them.

It just leaves black bars to fit onto screen, not an issue.

New list, I'm pretty happy with it now. Screen is crap, but the better options are unavailable here or only through amazon with monster shipping fees.

Yup, don’t see any issues with that. Remember you need an usb stick to update the bios on the motherboard so it supports 3600.

Awesome to know and more than a bit scary! Thank you!

What if I gwt the Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI)? More expensive, but doesn't need messing with the bios

It's a really nice board. A really expensive one too. That you absolutely don't need.

So let me put it this way. 5 minutes of work vs $60. I know my hourly wage is not that high.

let me put it another way: $60 extra vs. not phucking up your MB. That's how things should be put in perspective for newbies like him and me.
