phoenix4ever said: Should'nt you try with a bit more realistic numbers, like 10 weeks growth though.
Also not taken into account is the heroes, take for example Corkes VS Cuthbert... Or Eovacius VS Sanya...
But it's nice of you to actually test this, to get some results.
I took magic heroes, without being able to use their specialty. Also they all have no battle skills (except exp earth & air).
Cove won:
To be honest, Cove is stronger, mostly because of Nixes and Haspids (and Ayssids, at least until they die and you lose thousands of gold). Usually, you won't even want to get in melee with those two, since one of them will receive little damage, and the other one will wreck your unit in return.
Maybe HotA should nerf Cove a little (-1 def for Nix, something minor).
Edit: Now, since you said 10 weeks growth, I'm gonna try that too, but without spells first. I'm also going to put it all in just one post, as not to abuse the rules.

I would like a bigger Cove nerf.
I'm not saying all of these things but:
Accurate Shot can destroy several level 7 units from range and they can get morale and/or luck...
A fast flying Crusader, with the highest level 4 growth, even higher than useless and expensive Energy Elementals...
Automatic and permanent Disrupting Ray...
Indestructable Nix Warriors...
Incredibly fast (for a melee walker) and damaging level 7, with insane Revenge ability...
Some Cove heroes are also questionable to put it nicely...
Oh and a much better war machine than everyone else...

I didn't mention the rest, did I?
Haspids could get a little nerfed ability, Accurate Shot too, cus' they're almost shooting Mighty Gorgons by now, Ayssids at least die in high numbers (but growth bonus should be 2 instead of 3). Disrupting ray could be cast at lower level, and Nix maybe ignore only 50%, not 60%.
Edit: first battle done, the next now.

I just hope they won't make Factory too OP as well.

Btw. I meant 10 weeks growth including Castle and Horde buildings, to get the most comparable result.

That's what I've done.
That's interesting. However, Cove might have won too. The initial strike wiped 62 Ayssids, 2 Haspids 6 Nix Warriors and 12 Sorceresses. Then Haspids used Haste and killed 26 Zealots.
Edit: Anyway, now I'm gonna rest with my pal who loves griffins.

Nah, it ain't a problem.
Without spells.
With spells (Haste & Slow):
I dunno what to say. It really depends on how people play, on spells, etc. They're even in my opinion, even tho Cove has the edge (not in the photos, of course ). But the initial strike absolutely kills all Ayssids and many other troops.

Well we can also just agree that both Castle and Cove are very strong. (Sometimes it just seems to me like Cove is a bit too strong with those powerful abilities.)
I would like to decrease Ayssid horde building to +2 though, I don't see why Cove should get more level 4's than any other faction. (Especially crappy and expensive Energy Elementals.)

True. This basically makes Ayssids have a level 3 growth when they're level 4.

Cove is fine, there's literally no reason for any nerfs anymore.
Accurate Shot is only good in theory, even AI knows to block Seadogs, so they will never fire a shot at anything useful. Also, with 15 HP they suffer the same faith as Marskmen and Grand Elfs in bigger AI games - you need to capture towns with Castles, and they tend to focus Sea Dogs, making you bleed the units to the state where they are no longer can take much advantage from them.
The Cove being fast is actually a myth - they just lack really slow troops. In reality, only Tower and Stronghold have slower max speed - other 7 towns are capable of outspeeding Cove.
Cove got some nice things going for them, but they're by no means OP.

Well, a bonus of +189% damage is also very nice against the attacked one... And a tier 3 troop who, if only manages a shoot, can kill several tier 7s outright...
They're just at least a little to the OP side, since they can stand on relatively same grounds as Castle.

It also depends on map. Heroes is usually labelled as Turn Based Strategy but map play feels more like Grand Strategy while battle as Turn Based Tactics. So I always consider the price with tactical convenience of units.
I'd say my personal favorite Dungeon (which I voted) 1st and Tower 2nd.
Tower has better creature lineup but is so expensive.
3 shooters out of which Gremlins are in large numbers and Titans are level 7. 2 flyers as well as resistant lv3 and my favorite lv 6 unit.
Dungeon has 2nd best lineup with 3 flyers of which Harpies have Strike and Return, Scorpiores paralyze and Black Dragons Immunity to Magic and Fire Breath. 2 Shooters and really good Lv5 (one of my favorites). I pick Dungeon however because it is somewhat more economical than Tower. Plus Dungeon has Mana Vortex and Battle Scholar Academy(for getting some extra skill early game). I also like to pick Lorelei as I focus most of my strategy on Harpies.
What I don't like about Dungeon are the Troglodytes, and that makes it worse compared to Tower, whose units I find all useful. Even like that though, I find the presence of Troglodytes in my army as something that gives me a reason to search for a better deal on mid and late game in order to consolidate my army. Finding good melee monsters is easier than finding a good shooter/flyer that's why I like keeping almost all my army with dungeon creatures.
I think most factions are good as long as you know how to use them.
As far as I can tell from the poll Inferno, Stronghold and Fortress get 0 votes and those are exactly the 3 factions I don't really know how to play well with. I tried demon farming once and yielded some nice results but in the end the enemy came with stronger armies so the whole demon farming thing turned out a waste of time.
I think Stronghold should be good for blitz attacks on small maps but I haven't tried yet. As far as Fortress is concerned, I have fought some spectacular battles against much stronger enemy armies while defending my Fortress towns but they were captured towns. I don't know a good strategy for starting a game with Fortress as my main town.

I totally agree with you (only that Tower is 1st for me and Dungeon 2nd, also because of Archery + artifacts). Tower is better suited for maps that aren't short, though.
Stronghold is actually good in this kind of situations, where you rush early towards the enemy on small maps.
Fortress should be either played with Bron who starts with Basilisks, or Tazar who has Armorer. Wyvern Nest should be top priority for clearing the map (can be built on 1st day), and then get Mighty Gorgons and Dragon flies. Buy Mighty Gorgons only after you have at least ten of them. Give Serpent/Dragon Flies to scouts, but also to main hero to be able to start the battle with a spell and block shooters.
Demon Farming really needs a lot of thinking, etc. Sometimes it's worth it, sometimes not, because Demons are not exactly the best creature and you can farm only after you throw your money into a frickin' hole twice and get Pit Lords, so there won't be too many of them in short maps. This strategy has to be used with 100% perfection on short maps if you want to achieve something.

Yeah seems like Inferno, Stronghold and Fortress could use a few buffs.
Well I personally don't think Stronghold is that bad, you just need to be offensive with them and try to take towns fast, which they are very good at. (At least they can build Cyclops in HotA.)
Fortress is excellent at defending their town, but really bad at attacking towns.
Wyvern Monarchs are too fragile, they should have 10 more HP.
Mage Guild 3 and slow speed hurts both Stronghold and Fortress.
Inferno is the one with the fewest HP, Fire Magic is generally bad, also some units seems quite overpriced and Castle Gate only seems useful if Town Portal is banned. (Or nerfed in my case.)

Well the poll seems to disagree with you...
Firstly, it would be wiser to refer to this poll if we would have atleast 100-200 votes. Also, while Cove is in the lead, currently 70% of people have voted for non-Cove option.
Secondly, the topic and thus the poll is about "the best town", so people may have casted their vote with various reasons. Best doesn't necessary mean the strongest, and the strongest doesn't need to be OP.
FirePaladin said:

Do you mean you also think Castle is the best town, or what did you mean by the last sentence?
Sea Dogs can be wonderful unit, but as you said, they need to be able to shoot, which will not likely happen in a "serious" fight, let it be two human players clashing on each other, or just a huge battle against AI. In MP they're not build because there are likely not time, and single player they don't really never become a real threat, because you will lose a bunch of them especially in siege fights, or in battles against harder creeps. The dream of shooting a Black Dragon down with them is a rare case.
Haspids are also really really good unit, but that can be said with various lvl 7 creatures. Would you rank them as the best tier 7 creature?
