Fortress is excellent at defending their town, but really bad at attacking towns.
Wyvern Monarchs are too fragile, they should have 10 more HP.
Mage Guild 3 and slow speed hurts both Stronghold and Fortress.
Inferno is the one with the fewest HP, Fire Magic is generally bad, also some units seems quite overpriced and Castle Gate only seems useful if Town Portal is banned. (Or nerfed in my case.)


Or if TP is nowhere to be found in your Mage Guilds.

Stronghold isn't bad, but you really have to be careful with it in PvP especially as to not lose many units. And on longer maps too.

Wyvern Monarchs are fragile, but there are 2 tier 6 troop with less hp... even tho they're neutrals. The wyverns could get a boost, as you said before.

Fortress is bad until you have Exp Water with Teleport, but you need to use up a skill slot for it. A bunch of Hydras crippling the enemy shooters in an instant really hurts the enemiy's defense.

And Inferno... Only don't buff Efreeti or Devils, please (except for the Devil's hp).

Do you mean you also think Castle is the best town, or what did you mean by the last sentence?

Sea Dogs can be wonderful unit, but as you said, they need to be able to shoot, which will not likely happen in a "serious" fight, let it be two human players clashing on each other, or just a huge battle against AI. In MP they're not build because there are likely not time, and single player they don't really never become a real threat, because you will lose a bunch of them especially in siege fights, or in battles against harder creeps. The dream of shooting a Black Dragon down with them is a rare case.

Haspids are also really really good unit, but that can be said with various lvl 7 creatures. Would you rank them as the best tier 7 creature?


I meant only a town with strong army in itself. Not the best, but with a good raw army (no hero, etc.).

And Haspids are the only level 7 unit (from towns, ofc) which can kill an Archangel 1v1, together with Ancient Behemoth.

I killed 50+ Blackies this week on Daggerwin Valley with Accurate shot (1600 Sea Dogs), but lost half (75 out of 150) of my phoenixes in the battle because I used a secondary hero. I also had 2000+ nig- Seamen, 1000+ Iron Golems and 600+ Crusaders.

Yes Stronghold is vulnerable to attack, both because of low defense and speed. Mass Haste is almost always the answer for Stronghold.

Yes Water Magic is a must for Fortress, Hydras and Mighty Gorgons likes Teleport very much. But also Bless is good for Fortress, because of low attack ratings. (And Prayer if you can find it somewhere.)

That's why Water Magic has a similar priority like Air Magic, for Fortress at least. Expert Prayer can turn the tide of the battle for Fortress, with their low attacking skills (together with Bless, but after Prayer).

I think Fortress should have had Mage Guild 4. Witches are VERY magic oriented, yet they get no spells. If the intention was they should learn spells through Eagle Eye it failed...

I think you're right. Right now, Witches are almost pointless.

There are some good maps and campaigns with main heroes who use Eagle Eye, like Eternal Love.

Either Mage Guild 4 or the Witch class should have been more might oriented like Battle Mages. They usually also get terrible skills, Eagle Eye, First Aid, Ballistics etc.

If you prefer maps with such resources and time, it's no wonder why we're seeing things differently, as I tend to play (random) maps, where you usally don't have the luxury of having such armies.

No, that was an exception. I just wanted to play a big map (XH or H) and suddenly realized Diplomacy is broken there (all of them were gotten through diplomacy).

And the map isn't too rich in the first weeks. However, it's best played in PvP, since the enemy won't be a stupid AI who doesn't attack your castle with a big army even tho they can do it easily through a portal for months.

Well, Wizards are VERY magic oriented, yet they get more attack than spell power after level 10 . Let's face it, Heroes III is beautiful, atmospheric, charming, magical, yada yada, but it is a big disaster in terms of consistency.
