I didn't read the OSM very much back then. I still glance over the extremely long posts that become cyclical. The main thing I noticed about Elodin is that people could get away with insulting him and not get penalized and then I remember an occasion when Elodin got a penalty for something extremely trivial, lol. I think he got under the skin of the mods in addition to a few members.
That was only one individual poster though. Even before my recent string of threads in the past several weeks, it seems like the internet is a rougher place in general.
Zenofex's suggestion that I'm looking at the past with rose-colored glasses is a good point and I've considered that, but I've looked back at a few threads in 2008-2010 instead of relying on my memory and I'm not sure I agree with that. Then again, I was mostly oriented in the actual Heroes content back then.

If you go really back, I mean waaay back, like to 2010 or so, yes, it’s a friendlier environment. But such polarization was way before covid19, even before Trump.
I think, since like 2015 - 2016, the differences of opinion became more personal and sharpened, and not just in this place. The internet culture, massive immigration, rise of the populist authoritarian leaders since conventional ways of democracy dont seem to work like they used to... it all snowballed into this new polarized world.
Then, most people who were relaxed or politically correct said “screw this” and left. So things became even more edgy.

I would also point out to the popularization of social media. Idiocy has become even more widespread (you just see it on regular basis) and clashes of worldviews became more aggresive. I know it was always there, but with the raise of Internet it has become more visible. For example back in the day I wouldn't be bothered by this and that or ignore it altogether, but each day I read about something that makes me triggered, be it politics or political correctness. It's probably why it also pushes me to write some stuff even if I'm not exactly attentive about it. I should know better...
All in all, I feel like the world has somewhat become more edgy in the past few years... it's a general obeservation that I see in myself and those around me.
Or maybe let's just call it me getting older XD

Don't the left ALREADY have near complete control(through their moderation) of twitter, reddit, instagram, facebook, and others? Why gaming forums, too? Why are you leftists constantly petititioning authority to rid the world of "dissenters" so you can all have safe-spaces to spread your tripe? Can't handle thinking people calling you out on your bs, or what?

1st: I have dialed-down my posting style somewhat since people were getting worked up, but I still have a right to post about contemporary issues, including subjects such as racism, white privilege, BLM, sexism, the societal evils of abortion and pornography, the decline of Western influence, etc. They might elicit strong reactions but that is unavoidable. I can't control other people. It says much more about them then it does about me.
2nd: Your retelling of HC history is extremely biased, to say the least.
3rd: To the best of my memory, I have never called for anybody to get banned, ever. You readily paint yourself as the victim and yet here you are, expressing your view like everybody else. Could you specifically say what you have a problem with instead of being vague?

Fred, respectfully, anybody who supports BLM is "inflammatory" in your book. If you were a mod you probably would have banned me already because I don't have identical political views as you do. Kiryu was allegedly a "straight male-hating feminist" as you claim, and yet I don't seem to recall him banning people.
It's unfortunate that you can't see the irony in it all.
Also - as I have already stated - I am talking about a wider timeframe than my recent postings in the OSM.

The unfriendlyness in former times were mostly about the game and their (newbie) players...not so much in OSM.
Nowadays there is not much heat in game discussions...if there is any (real) discussion anyway.
I have the feeling the bad temper just comes out of the OSM threads, not of any other fora. Extremists rule the political discussions there and go limbo with normal moral and behaviour standards.
It always starts when someone stats a personal opinion as a FACT...then the "war" begins 
Maybe some should just ask themselves if they would like to discuss with a twin of themselves...and if they would enjoy that...

No I see only one persons with big problems! Rest is nearly ok! Ofcourse theyre not ideal but I see this forum very friendly I think that MM spirit, JVC spirit is very good and has good consequences for all players! Best games ever! Play and your kids your friends etc. :0)))

2. Blm isn't the only thing you post that is inflammatory, and you know this. Your threads are straight-up inflammatory. You come across as a literal meme irl; which is the reason why kip gave you that nickname. It's not because he just hates your posts for no reason. The only thing that keeps me from being legit angry with you, is because i think all of this is really trolling. You post like a caricature of the left.

To the best of my knowledge, a mod can silence a poster for a very long time and that is pretty much the same thing as a ban. Kiryu didn't do this.
