LordCameron said: Which part?
Data stealing/tracking/harvesting: Because you are paying someone to profit off of you, rather than them paying you back for it. And the trackers are not free. That's eating up your cpu cycles/ electricity and adding more room for bugs. AoW3 started crashing regularly for me and I was locked out of it for a while after they added in the data tracking. I still get error messages popping up.
DRM: Because GOG has an anti-DRM policy. If you buy a game on GOG you own it. You don't own AoW3. Once the company goes out of business/ gets bored of supporting paradox accounts, you'll be locked out of multiplayer (I'm sure fans/their last gasp will come up with some solution) but it shouldn't have been their to start with. Plus accounts are a real pain.
DLC upfront: Because it suggests they are cutting content to sell back to the player later.
Season Pass: Because they are asking you to gamble on an unproven product.
Pre-order bonus/news letter bonus: Those who come to the game late will get a lesser game. It is a desecration of the art. They are purposefully chopping apart their game to encourage their customers to go against their best interests and pre-order (buy a product which doesn't exist)
Lots of DLC planned: It means DLC is a model for making money rather than health expansions which add to the game. AoW3's expansions compliment it perfectly
Jordi being a customer service robot: The company doesn't care about their costumers and their issues and instead will say whatever it takes to make them shut up and go away. This is the tendrils of Paradox taking over ever more
Pushing a political message then refusing discussion let alone criticism: They are cowards looking for cheap hypocrisy points rather than standing by what they believe in.
Changing AoW3 years after it was purchased by the majority of its players and then refusing to make any concessions on the matter: It means they are completely untrustworthy, and we have no reason to believe they won't pull the rug under us again. Another reason why GOG's ability to own your own game is important. Because then you can keep whatever copy was the 'unruined' version and still keep the complete feature set.
You bring excellent points to the table and, believe me, I respect your decision not to support this. However, I am much weaker in this regard. I am prob. going to play this snow again and again and again

What's the verdict so far? Despite my boycott I've been surprised to hear some negative things about it because Triumph are amazing game designers.

Bought the game 2 weeks ago, clocked 200 hours on it. I think Triumph outdid themselves with this one. It's straight up the best fantasy 4X game right now. I can't put it down, nor do I want to. There's virtually endless replayability with faction creation and DLC content in the long run. Currently going through story realm maps.
The main friction point though is Paradox's marketing model. I can't stand how their games take hundreds of euros to have the latest experience. I got the premium edition for 67,5€ (25% discount from 90€), which has the base game and season pass 1. Season pass 2 which is out now costs 50€ more! Are we expected to pay a full game's price on a season pass every year to be up to date? That's ridiculous and not a deal for me.
For now I'll be enjoying the game as is and forget about the passes. There's a lot to catch up with and I don't think I'll run out of content anytime soon.
