Stupid Rules!
OK, this one is all in fun, so don't anybody get thin skinned about seeing themselves in this thread...I'm collecting "Stupid Rules", a pure opinion poll with no right or wrong answers, and am planning to put this up on Weeflea for entertainment/whatever.
What do you think are stupid rules, and why do you think they are stupid?
Conversely, what do you consider to be "must" rules for different types of games? (Random, open map, closed map, etc.) To get things started...
Stupid Rule 1. No necro. Way stupid with 1.4. 3,000 skeletons can die quite easily if you are able to dictate the battlefield. Nothin more fun than picking off an attacker's catapult and seeing his skeletons, dread knights, liches and zombies die unable to attack. Expert transport or earthquake can be deadly traps, however.
Must Rule 1. No named templates! I've been burned by too many "named" templates that were "unfinishable" due to not having any way other than DD or Fly to get TO the enemy.

No Necro
well, I play with "no necro". But my aim is to shorten the turn, not the fear of skellies.
Fighting every stack of monsters bores me and my opponent most prolly.
Getting 3 active msg's is not fun for me.

Must have rules for randoms:
1. No named templates.
2. No Carto/Grail (Although Grail may be acceptable).
3. Normal restart rules (meet first week/heavily blocked).
4. Monolithhs within 1 day of main castle = restart.
5. Let Hexa win.
6. When u can't lose no matter how stupid ya do .. see rule 5 and find a way to do it ....
Stupid rule for ALL maps:
1. First day rush (If u need to make this rule ... then u are playing with the wrong person. )
Will probably think of more later!@

I am very willing to let my opponent play with Necro on randoms if we start with random towns. I play strictly randoms and have played hundreds of games, i can count on one hand the number of times my Necro opponent won because of his massive skeletal army. There are so many ways to counter that its not even funny.
And yes...i play quality opponents....but the no necro thing is just funny to me.
Oh yeah..i already know what you are gonna say to this...not too hard to predict your follow-up...

hehe....ok
OH yeah i got side tracked on the necro issue...
stupid rules = no 3rd/4th or logisitics.
soon as i hear an opponent mention that i know i will not play them, or at least will not play them 80% of the time.
I just dont understand that rule.
Stupid rule = any that i dont like.

If you think named templates suck, you dont know enough of randoms.
Ring is the best template out there, never get trapped unless 3 player. Dwarven tunnels is challenging and I've never been trapped. Ready or Not is ok, just an early meeting, Newcomers sux, Muzgob is great for 3 player, Golems a plenty, Monks retreat and Rise of the phoenix are all ok (rise is the toughest template there is)
Anyway dont dis people for their rules, its the way they want to play, even if you think they are stupid.

I am strictly a random map player and I refuse to play unless these two rules are in effect:
1} Meet wk 1 restart, I like the game to last longer than it took to get a good template.
2} No Cartographer, thats an absolute game breaker.
Most other rules I'm open to playing depends what opp wants.
Motor,,,I prefer to pick Castles and not go random, not cause I'm afraid to play any of them. I just hate playing Fortress, I know it really is one of the best,,,I just despise playin it for some reason. I also prefer not to play Tower unless it's XL with under. Just my preferences for a more enjoyable game.
About the only "named" template i will play is RING. Actually one of my favorites its usually well balanced, very rarely meet early in game. Although it is extremely rich map, anyone who cant get lvl 7 wk 1 on this map should sell their computer
Or donate it to a street bum so he can play all those Homm4 cd's he's finding while rooting through garbage cans

well no shi.t but on the german message board there were 3 long thread about chaining.
some guys ment that chaining is a form of cheating because its not realistic that monsters have no movement points.
mostly that were players that played h4 and saw it has no chainign and then thought it was a bug in h3 i think.

Just a few I remember seeing.
No.... I don't want to argue about ANY of them
No small maps
No 4th lev spell heroes
No Hit & Run
No Diplomacy
No Logistics
No Grail
No Spell or Resource Heroes at all allowed
No Griffin Conservatories
No 6th-7th level external creature dwellings
No Dragon Utopias
No attacking on day 1 with new creatures
We start over if by chance we meet in the 1st week of play.
We start over if I dont get the town type I like.
We start over if there is a portal within 1 day of my town.
We start over if my Wood or Ore mine are guarded.
No Skeleton Transformer built in week 1.
No Gremlim Upgrade in Week 1. (This started it I think).
No Black Market purchases.
No Cartographer!!!
No Logistics Arties allowed.
No Orbs or Cloaks of any kind allowed!
No chaining of Heroes!
No building Mage Guilds above level 2!
No cover of Darkness may be used.
Shackles of War not allowed!
No Necro's allowed.
No 1st level creatures in final battle.
No conflux (Edit add)

Random rules I play.
1. No Grail.
2. Meet in first week = restart.
3. No wood and coal in first week(Not owned, just found) = restart.
4. Random means random so no picking castle or hero.
5. No Cartographer(Game killer)!
