Expansion pack might come this fall
This is from gamespotnews http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories/news/0,10870,2873484,00.html
"Fans of Heroes of Might and Magic IV, 3DO's latest turn-based strategy game, will be getting an expansion pack this fall, if reports on online retailers EB Games and GameStop are accurate. No information about the expansion pack is listed aside from its $29.99 retail price, and the publisher was unavailable for comment at press time. 3DO said in April that an expansion for the game was a possibility. We'll post more information about the expansion as it becomes available. "

I am not excited about it at all. With so few people remaining at NWC, the expansion likely would add very little to the game.

releasing an expansion before a game has all the bugs fixed is down right stupid. Fix what's wrong first, and then release an expansion if one is even waranted... having just got the game this past weekend, I am hapy with what it is, but common sense should be telling them to fix what's dbroken before even thinking about the expansion. They seem to be too quick to want to make money, rushing the projects along.

It will probably be the first time MP will be available.. But they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they don't release the MP patch before then.. even if its half baked. Because people will not appreciate having to buy an expansion pack to play MP.. They will feel HOMM4 wasn't the complete product and that its expansion is the other half of what you should have been getting. Paying extra to get the complete product you should have gotten.
They are taking a while with the patches, and aren't giving much progress updates, so many people have already lost faith in the HOMM series.. Will this HOMM4 EXP restore people's faith? Probably not. I'm not getting excited by it anyway, and it seems there are a couple others here who already don't care for it thanks to the incomplete HOMM4.

What do you think of this theory of mine...
NWC has already fixed all the bugs and made the multiplayer version but has been told by 3DO that these fixes can only be released in the expansion pack. This way 3DO will make the most money out of its resources. I bet there's EVEN a random map generator. OOH! NICE! (sic).
This theory makes some sense to me. How long could it really take to fix the things we are asking for? Do they care anyway - thay've made their bucks and the shareholders can smile at the quarterly result. It smells like a corporate hoodwinking to me. What we need is an open source heroes type game where updates aren't reliant on financial transactions.

Bad Politics
I was expecting something like this expansion project... but it's an error for me. It will be the first expansion I don't plan to immediately purchase (although I will probably purchase it anyway after a while).
In my humble opinion (and there are more than a few fans on the net sharing this thoughts), HOMMIV was released quite unfinished due to commercial reasons. If probably saved the company from financial danger, but what's the price?
As you probably now, some of the most enthusiastic HOMM developers (like "sir" Robert Mullich or Jennifer "Maranthea" Bullard) were fired just after the release. Maybe they are delaying patches to give the expansion an additional valor (what is a very objectionable way of selling an uncomplete product), or maybe they are finding serious problems in fixing the bugs. Any experienced software developer knows how difficult can be to get into the complex code of other programmers when they are gone and unwilling to cooperate...
Well, my support for the company is still there, but not in the same older way... if HOMMIV was really launched in a beta version, it has anyway been a very profitable launch. So, the less the company must do for its clients is release free patches for those who don't plan to buy an expansion. In other case, they will be weakening fans confidence, and that is very bad politics for a gaming company.
