Simplify... Man.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I've had it up to my eyebrows with trying to keep track of all of the creatures in the heroes games. HOMM III was the worst because not only did you have to keep track of 7(!!!) creatures per towns, but apparently, these creatures could also be "upgraded" to further confuse the poor player. In light of this, I propose that future installments of heroes cut down creatures to one - "Bob."
This would also simplify towns since now there would only be one - "Bobtown." In addition, town management would be much easier since you would now only have to build one structure - the Bob Pens.
Combat should also be simplified. Instead of having all of these strange "attack" and "defense" skills, it should be nice and easy and be a Bob for a Bob. If your opponent has 20 bobs and you have 25 bobs, you win the combat with 5 bobs left over. I know I always hate not knowing who's going to win a battle before it starts.
Hero skills should be reduced to two - the "Bob Herding" skill for Might heroes which would improve the effectiveness of your Bobs - for instance if you had a high Bob Herding skill you could change combat to 1.1 Bobs for a Bob. Magic heroes would learn the "Summon Bob" skill which allows you to summon extra Bobs during combat.
The AI also needs to be pared down. I absolutely HATE it when the computer does something like attack my ranged troops first or anything like that (of course, since there will be only Bobs, this particular problem will be eliminated). I propose that 3DO adopts the Super Mario AI system so that the computer heroes (with associated hordes of Bobs) would walk back and forth in predetermined, set patterns.
The beauty of this is that 3DO wouldn't have to pay that guy they have playtesting any more and could just release the games faster and faster and make more and more money! That's what we all want, isn't it?

You dream big. That's why I like you Bort.
However the skill's complexe thing's to much. Also. What if there was nothing but 2 bobtown's?
I know it's complicated.. How dose one get more bobs than the other?

I guess the limiting factor to how many Bobs you can have is not how many Bobs are produced per week but how much money you have. You have to make tough decisions about whether to split your Bobs into many easily defeated forces to capture as many gold mines as possible (although the phrase "gold mine" might confuse people. They should be renamed "money giving thingy") or making an invincible Bob horde and use rolling Bob or BlitzBob/Bobkrieg tactics. The deciding factor between a 2 bobtown map would be who captures the most money giving thingies.
The graphics are also too colorful. Bring back monochrome!

this is so complex! look all you need is one bob each and no town, you both got to hunt each other down, and the computer decides the fight giving you a 50/50 chance of winning

Or better yet - since you don't have a town, you have 1 week to get a town or you lose. Since there are no towns on the map, whoever goes first loses.

This sounds like fun, big time! Bobs of Might and Magic, wicked! Hey, I've got an idea to simplify the money stuff thingy, 'cause it is indeed really complicated. You start out with an amount of cash, and you have to pay taxes for each bob in your army. If you run out of money, bobs start to run away, ow. The bobs themselves would be free to recruit and there is no way of getting money. Simple, isn't it?

Two towns? Wouldn't that be confusing for the newbs, I mean wow, two towns is like one more than one, maybe even twice as much (that I'm not sure of). The great part is that the game would have NO losers, ever. Hehe, Dollyland... Why hasn't nwc ever thought about that?

1. It's DollyWOOD.
2. Dolly is so not sexy.
3. You're not supposed to let all the other countries know about the Dolly Parton aspect of our culture. The plan is simple and is in every american citizen's handbook:
step 1: collect underpants
step 2: weaken other nations' cultures with McDonalds, Disney and Basketball
step 3: up cultural attack. deploy boy bands and divas.
step 4: bring in the big guns - Nascar and Dolly Parton. watch as US cultural dominance overwhelms all!!! No more foreign films!!! No more italian food that isn't soggy noodles floating in red sauce!!!! All will bow before us!!!!! And buy our products!!!!!
step 5: profit

I was considering giving bort a QP for this topic myself but decided to wait to see how the topic developed so Unka beat me to it. The reason is that it's very funny (it was me who rated it 'funny'), and it's on-topic for the forum. If you count truely funny topics in the Altar you'd find perhaps 5-10, so this is a rare gem.
One of the things I'd like to see more of is this types of topics in the Altar. It's hilarious. Ok.... I'd like to see more topics of most sorts on the Altar since it's been too tranquil lately.
Anyway, keep up the discussion on "bob" more QPs might follow in this topic.

Well, I think it's better to not make Bob a Hero, but just a creature, because of beneficial artifacts and Arenas of Honor and so on...
So then we'll have to rename the game: Bobs without Might and Magic, but that would also complicate things...
It's tricky...
