*** Laelth's New Map, "Agathon" ***
I've just learned that Tournament of Honor has accepted my latest Heroes IV map, Agathon. It should be posted on the ToH Maps Page soon. Here's a look at the mini-map:
Agathon is also available for play in the Clans of Vandea Tournament. You can download it immediately from the Battle Maps page. I tried to make this map well-balanced, active, interactive, beautiful, and relatively fast. Hope you enjoy it.

I am impressed with how fast you can turn these maps out. However, I was kinda hoping to see a new age in map design. Seems all the maps that come out are all a mirrored type map with 1 or 2 choke points to break thru and meet and fight.
Take Genesis for example, it has atleast 4 different ways to enter opponents area as well as a ton of area to interact with oppoent without having free access to his town / area. Basically there are Multiple strategies to use in any given game. Obviously Genesis is NOT perfect, I just used it as example.
With most of the other maps on TOH page, with the 1 or 2 choke points there is no suprise. No thrill. Just both sides build up armies and meet at choke point and fight?

genesis is a great map ... very complicated and very interesting, but, truth be told, agathon was specifically designed to be a quick, noob-friendly map. i made it very simple, intentionally. and i won't be making many more maps for H4. i have one on the drawing-board (a ridiculously-complicated, take-forever-to-finish map that ought to appeal to the serious H4 players who are bored with all the older maps) and one that blue-camel and i are making jointly. after that, i think, i'm done with H4 maps. i need more time to play.

its very true. laelth has ambitions to be active in clans in the future, and to play a lot in toh in general... and I completely understand what he's saying. If I didnt make maps I could have a ton more time to play. We'll see if he actually goes through with it.

Well you have compared it to the other maps, and as you say there aren't 1 or 2 choke points ( there's only one really, whoever gets to middle gets huge advantage, so go sprites and imps), so that makes it PERFECT ...

Well that's what we would expect from a heroes game ( not taking chatting in between turns into consideration ), nice heroes, nice army and fight, but then again, some of us like to scour maps with stealthy thieves ... and run away from fights

Thanks, Wolfman. It's been a while since anybody's been really "hip" to this map, but I always thought it was one of my prettiest ... the area where the lava meets the jungle is rather nice, I think. Perhaps the border guards need to be a little stronger. Otherwise, I think it works pretty well.

Hiya, Valky. Law school's been keeping me busy. You still need to finish kicking my arse on another of my maps, if I remember correctly. School lets out in a couple of weeks, and you'll see me on Gamespy then.
Later,
