By the way(and I don't mean to start a fight here), but you think that if you freed Irak and captured Saddam you are suddenly the heroes of the day and the whole world should applause your so called act of courage? Need I remind you of all the other countryes in the world that were or still are ruled by dictators? The revolution against communism in my country in '89 was drowned in blood, the blood of people shed because of men of the same nationality. Where was the USA then?

But neither should other countries still condemn the initiative taken to extinguish the bloodthirsty dictator.  Chirac is still trying to get his contracts in Iraq.  Should he?  I don't think so.  Either way, in the begining before the war France (among other countries) would have contracts anyway.  I think that would be one of their reasons for opposing the war in the first place.  But now they feel they can walk right in and take contracts?  I don't think so.
After we caught Saddam (we being the Anglo/American alliance, and not the Franco/German... alliance) almost the first words out of Chirac's mouth were "Now that you have caught Saddam...Oh, good job with that by the way...How 'bout those contracts? *A nice smile here*)  Of course that is not a quote, I'm not very good with my French  But that's what happened, about...pretty close at least.

I thought I should define the "we" there.  I think it was Bort who wanted clarification of "we" before.

Of course they can't have contracts, they need to reserve them all for Halliburton and others so they can overcharge (but by "accident" of course) the government some more...

That's not what I said and you know it.  I don't think Haliburton should get all the contracts, but I don't see why France and Co. should get contracts if they did 0% of the work to make it possible.
Have you ever heard the story of Chicken Little, I think it's called.  Where Chicken Little goes to the other animals in turn asking them to help her bake some bread, and they all turn her down.  But when she finally goes through all the work to make it, the rest want to eat some of the bread.  That is what this is turning into.  It's a joke really.

I know it's not what you said, it's what happens, and I can't see any way that giving it to them is any better than giving it to the french. Just because you don't support it doesn't mean it doesn't happen, and giving it to the same nice companies with histories of overcharging and just *accidently* might have been owned once by certain persons isn't any more reasonable than giving them to France.

And to my reccollection, it's damn hard for British companies to get in on the act as well, so it's not just French companies closed off. Of course we're not totally prevented from it, but we don't actually win many either, so it matters not one bit.

British companies should be able to get in there with the contracts, but France and Co. should not.  Chicken Little you know...

That's the point, they're not winning any, or not many, it's all going to the likes of Halliburton, which reminds me of jobs for the boys...

Oh and I would have thought at least part of the decision as to whom the Iraquis get  to rebuild Iraq should rest with the Iraquis, not the US.

Completely Agree with Private Hudson

I couldn't agree more with you PrivateHudson. That is probably my greatest reason for not voting for him in the 2004 election. Preach on Brotha! No love for the Bush administration! Here's a reason for hating the U.S.:

"War Chest" - That which is taken freely after decimating an existing sovereign nation, ranging from natural resource harvesting exploits to finageled indigenous laborers.

I wouldn't be surprised if this administration set up some kind of manufacturing plant in Iraq that allowed U.S. goods to be made there for a much cheaper price. It would put the "made in Taiwan" catch phrase to shame. People worry about immigrants coming into our country through California and working for dirt cheap thus lowering minumum wage in our economy. Some say immigration could cause currency deflation. Bah, wait till we see a privatized Iraq. Then the world will know a new meaning for the word, "Slumlord".

I don't recall suggesting any of those things Consis, merely that giving contracts to almost entirely US companies, and companies with bad reputations is no better than giving them to companies from countries like France.

well the contracts should only be given to the country's that helped to get rid of Saddam, Netherlands, Britain, USA, etc. France and Germany, etc no, it would be a good lesson to them, either join or not. its one way or the other, but not both. as for Saddam, he had it comming to him. one must not forget war is needed to progress.

wel America is not the only country with a proberly wrong goverment. Our goverment isn't any better either.

I think the world is forgetting that WE all need each other, to go forward.

What bad memories do you have of the Clinton Era? Did Chelsea beat you up at school when you were 12?

When I was 12, Bill was having a little too much fun at his job. (wink wink nudge nudge)

Under the Clinton Era, the military was cut in half. (don't give me any of the usual "end of the cold war" rubbish, I know that, it doesn't make a difference)  He has no care for the common person, especially the family of people who protect our country.  Bin Laden?  Does that name ring a bell?  Saddam breaking 12 UN resolutions?  Anything clicking?
