Quote: imps/familiars - demon food
gogs/magogs - gogs demon food, magogs help killing the demon food to get demons
hell hounds/cerberi - tell me how this is a bad unit
demons - average on 1on1 vs others on same lev, but if you handle yer pit lords right, you can get hordes
pit fiends/lords - solid lev5, gets you demons
efreet sultans - very good lev6
devils - fast, no retal - great for cleaning the map
How's this a sucky lineup?
you can only once use pit lords' speciality and you cant ressurect more demons then there are pit lords. the ressurrecting is usually not worth it. the pit lords are also very vulnerable, and in my experience inferno is too expensive overall.

Yes but you can have more stacks of Pit Lords with you, and use the rest of your troops as demon food.

I can't remember a game that I played and it lasted 2 months. Anyway skellies are strong. For 2 months a necro can even complete THE ARTIFACT and start rising liches.
The only problem I find with skellies is their low overland speed. It can be solved partially by using additional heroes.
Some things that you can try against skellies:
A specialist of logistics can pass by the skellies and capture their castle. If they try to take it he can probably try to concentrate fire and destroy the catapult before a wall is broken. Then the skellies will have a very hard time to go in if they do not have expert teleport ;-)
A specialist armorer with expert shield can probably take the damage without very bad consequences. 2K skellies will hit like 200.
For the castles I think that there are two key aspects of the game:
- large army.
- a good hero to lead the army.

Actually, the amount of demons per pitlord is approx. 1,4

Can someone pleaze explain me why do you consider the Conflux to be too powerful ?
Ok i see they have an advantige with all those magic resistances, and with magic university but i dont think that compensate for their overally crappy units. Ok we have storm elemental, wich rock, but we also have pixies, energy and erth elementals that suck. Ice is ok but nothing spectaculus, same goes for psyche and phenixes.
Compared to castle or rampart, they suck.......so can someone plz explain me whats the deal with them....am i missing some super diabolical tactick that makes them invincible ?

First of all, conflux units are damned fast..
Pixies....u think they suck?
Lol...they come in great numbers...more than 200 at the beginning of month 2....very fast....no retaliation...nothing more to say...
Storm elementals.....best level 2 unit in the game (in my eyes...)....look how bless works for them...
Ice elementals....good shooter....much hitpoints in comparison to other level2 or lev3 shooters..
Energy elementals...average flyer
Magma elementals....average unit....strong...good defender
Psycho elementals....great unit....the "hydra" of conflux..
Phoenixes.......fastet unit in the game...means u will always start battle (except siege with artillery/balistics)....resurrection ability....and their growth is doubled in comparison to other lev7 units.....means, on start of month 2 u got 18 phoenixes, while other towns have only 9 lev7 units....
Don´t u think these are enough advantages to call them "overrated"?

Hmmm leta see, letts compare them to the other towns.
Pixie----pikeman, centaure, skeletons (with necromancy) and even grmlins are better than pixie. Sure they are fast and nave no retalation but that doasnt mean they are good. You can mass out hundreats of them, but one lighting and they are pretty much dead.
Storm-----ok no argue here
Ice------not bad but there are many others that are better: elf, griffin, cerbery, serpent fly, beholder, and even golems IMHO
Energy------the crapiest 4th level unit around. Maybe only demons are worse but only becouse they dont fly.
Magma------same as above.
Psyche------good, but when we compare the to the other 6th level units we realise that there are many other that are better: Dead Knight, Naga, champion, maybe even unicorn and maticorne are better in certian situations.
Phenixes-----the only unit that is as good as the storm elemental (for it own level) considering their 4 per week growth
So what do we have, 2 very good units, and the rest of it is crap.
If i would have to pick one town that is stronger than any other that would deffinitly be Castle not Conflux.

Then try it on multiplayer game...
Come to the zone and play a random map against conflux, perhaps u will change ur opinion afterwards.
And to the thing bout the sprites (the upgraded pixies..) in compariosn to other level 1 units......i would like to make a battle with u......u have the amount of halbadiers of 1 month and me the amount of sprites...then we meet on the battlefield......let´s see if u can kill 1 single sprite..

I'm kind of a newbie to Heroes 3 (I've had it for a long time but I've never played online, and I don't play that often), but why is Rampart so good? I find centaurs to be too expensive and weak, dwarves are slow, elves do rock, pegasi are weak, dendroids are slow, and I haven't really played enough to have large armies of unicorns or dragons. I lose patience after playing for 8 hours nonstop.
Favorite towns to play:
Necropolis (mmmm vampires/skellingtons)
Dungeon (mmmm minotaur kings)
Tower (mmmm titans in large maps)
Castle (mmmm marksmen)
Conflux (mmmm magic university)
Rampart (mmmm grand elves)
Fortress (mmmm gorgons)
Inferno (mmmm horned demons)
Stronghold (mmmm ogre magi)
Truth be told, I have only voluntarily chosen anything below castle a few times. I only started playing again recently (after having stopped for a few years to play starcraft, diablo 2 and counterstrike).
Vaguely Humorous Anecdote:
Just for fun, I played random Medium 1-level map 1v1 computer at 130%. There were only 2 obelisks on the map, so I got the grail early in the second month and crushed my enemy. The game only lasted something like 65 days. How do you people play these vast games with hundreds of 7th-level creatures?

I’m a bit interested in this thread and I’m pretty sure my town explanatory would fit here.
The favorite is never a favorite town. Town choosing depends on the situation, the atmosphere you’re going to play, the map size, the difficulty and, of course, opponents’ choice.
Take for example an online battle in “Loss of Innocence (6)” map. Six players, no CPU enemy, each of them sitting hundreds kilometers from you. Map is edited: 1 town per player, 6 human players capability, random towns.
Well, it alwayss depends on the skills of the player. I’d actually choose between two towns: Fortress and Necropolis (if it is allowed).
But remember, you can always choose a favorite town.
My newest ones are:
TOP: Necropolis or Fortress
2nd: Castle and Rampart
3rd: Tower and Dungeon
------------------
Each town will have several plusses. It sometimes depends that I choose a game by viewing these town plusses.
Castle: Fast, but not the best line-up building with several shooters and flyers within.
Rampart: Fast, but expensive and loads of requirements having town.
Tower: The most expensive and the most shooters having town.
Inferno: Simple town line-up with only few powerful creatures inside.
Necropolis: Legions of skellies and no more to say
Dungeon: One of the best, fastest and most flying town.
Stronghold: Very much HP in here and damage too…
Fortress: Fast town line-up and 6-7th level units on the week 1 or 2.
-------------------
That’s me only. I should do this way. Town plusses are very useful to make my decision.
P.S. AS THE TOPIC NAME SAYS, I DIDN'T USE CONFLUX.
