That answer is wrong. He said "neither alive nor undead". So it means it is on mechanicals only  .
Wait - is it summon?

Zordrac's answer would be correct but.....
Summon is a spell that is cast on ground, not on "neither live nor dead" units.
On this units you can cast most of the spells in the game.
(but I don't find a better answer);p

However who say's summoning is from the dust? and Who say's they are living or not?
If we wanted to go through the list of spells, many could be casted on only nonliving, nor alive creatures.

Oh, first one it was worded badly. Neither undead nor living implies it is mechanical. Grr. And summon can work on mechanical by summoning more units (increasing their number).
Anyhow.
Hydras worst enemy.
Well, they like to be teleported the most, but they would like the least to be slowed, I imagine. Well, thats what I always did to them .
I don't know. Lots of things you can do to hurt hydras.

Okay, I am going to go through spells that really hurt hydras.
Binding them to the spot is really great (I used to love Dendroids for that) and then whip them with archers and spells. Another good thing is quicksand and various obstacles. But surely slow is the biggest problem for them. Because then you just move out of the way, hit them with some missiles, move out of the way again, etc.
Are we talking HOMM3 or HOMM4 here? Or HOMM2 even?

Woock & Selfious are near the truth. Yes, Dead is neither alive nor undead. At least 4: Ressurect, Sacrifice, Raise Daemons(!) and Animate Dead.
Summon is not called on Elementals, I think. They're not alive, no mind to affect, no morale. Or may be a very specific form of life, mercenarying for mana, can loss elemental body and can be given with.

Guess the creature:
In Heroes 3 it belonged to the inferno and was a mid-line creature. In Heroes 4 it was a neutral creature aligned with death and became ice. What is it?
