snows

I just received an e-mail informing me that Tracy, the woman I stayed at while I was in US and a very dear person to me, lost her 21yearold son in Iraq. He was killed in Faluja one of these past days. I cant describe my anger and revolt with words. Why do these things happen to the good people?
Tracy was anti-Bush and pacifist as she could be. She had those funky stickers all over her house (and jacket). She considered war to be the most horrible thing in the world. However, Nick, her son, was not. She cursed herself how she could raise him like that.
I slept in his room during those 2 weeks. The walls were all covered with posters with army slogans and cool marines posing in front of the flag. Couple of model guns, helmets and F-16s were scattered all over the room. Nick’s desk was covered with all sorts of papers, drawings and scribbles. The thought of me spending so much time in that room as left by an American marine that wouldnt come back, gives me the creeps.
What could the bloody snows say to her now? “I’m sorry, Maam. Your son died an honorable death fighting for our country.” No snowin snow. For the country?!?! So far away from home, in the deserts, defending his country?! The painful truth is that he died fighting for the pitiful interests of few snowty oil magnates and there’s nothing that can bring him back. Nick was 21! 21, God damnit! His brother just married and got a child. He didn’t get to see him. How many more foolish boys have to die for nothing, deluded in believing in their ideals of an army that serves their country, not to some bloody capitalists that sit in the government? How much longer will they have to die?! 4 more years. 4 more years.

And we can't do a **** thing about it...

Sorry to hear about your loss believe me.
Unfortunately people dont understand how F up & rediculous this war is in the forst place until they lose someone dear to them.

Unfortunately every American death is in vain because they gave thier lives into somethang they believe in.
Whats are we really fighting for, Oil, the hatred of the Iraqis.
Revenge on Bush Sr.
Whatever it is we should of left Iraq long ago if the reasons we could not support on Bushes hatred towards Iraq (Saddam).
They have thier own way of living & law we dont need to be there anymore, were not baby sitters & we dont need to fight thier territory battles because they can take care of themselves.

It's been time to go home.
I see alot Bush supporters that have sons out there right now & think thier doing the right thang.

They say that Bush couldnt sit on his A after the 9-11 incident I agree BUT.
Wrong country.

Thats why all Americans who die in this war are dying in vain just like Vietnam.

My condolences to Tracy and you for your loss.

My mom lives in terror that the draft will start up again and one or both of my brothers will end up dying in Iraq.  She's mentioned many of the same things you have -- it's worse when one believes in no greater cause to justify the fighting and the deaths.  And there's no way to retaliate or ask for justice.

Sorry to hear about that. Yeah, I agree that this war is for oil rather than dealing with some legitimate threat to the United States. Although I don't have much love for the the tyrant Saddam Hussein, the sad fact of the matter is that removing him has given more power to an even worse tyrant -- a global tyrant who prioritizes the interests of his rich corporate friends rather than the citizens of America and the rest of world.

It's unfortunate that we have to lose so much for so little....

The really sad part is that that government was re-elected demonstrating that allot of Americans must support the cause...  (I can say that allot of us Canadiens were dissapointed to see he'd manage to stay around..)

my sincerest condolences,

J

It's a shame, yes, but he was doing his job.  He knew the risks.  He is one of the members of a rare breed that put others freedom above his safety.  I'm proud to have such people in my country.

same here, though in difference to you i laugh at your ignorance.

I laugh at the fact that its only americans now that actually believe that the saddam removal was just a removal and no other interests involved such as oil etc.

I laugh at the fact that even about half of you americans know this and yet the others talk BS like "I'm proud to have such people in my country."

Because that is all BS, what it really means is "Im happy someone else takes the fire for something im ignorant enough to believe in, myself i would never do anything like it nor would i like anyone in my family to do so."

Which is about how all the politicians in US feels btw, the war in iraq is a good thing as long as they dont have to get personally involved nor have their sons over there.

The problem is that its the Tracies in USA that gets to suffer for this brainless ignorance, people that has a clue but cant do anything about it. And in return for that their family dies.

Would you be referring, perhaps, to a movie made by someone of the Moore family? LOL

I send you my condolences. It's never as bad when you hear it on the news than when it hits close to home...
I didn't want to make a pointless comment in your thread without even taking the time to adress you in a proper manner.

Who here thinks there were no other interests?  Oil is important, we need oil, and it runs the economy.  Oil was not the only reason for removing Saddam, just a big plus.  I also find it funny when Hollywood stars scream about “No War For Oil”.  What do they think fuels their private jets?

I’m not going to give you a history of my life, but you have no right or reason to question sacrifice when it comes to the military.  Especially under Clinton, you have no idea what that means.  Sacrifice is not just giving your life, and the family is not only directly affected by a death.

Didnt you read what I said?!
He was 21! How mature can your decisions be when you're 21? You know, he didnt really support the war in Iraq, but he had to go there because that was his job. His devoted service and admiration to the marines is what made him go there, not the belief in the righteousness of the war. But unfotunately the army is made to serve someone. Whose interests did they serve this time? FOr who or what did he die and left his entire family in grief?

I mean, just stop for moment, put all your knowledge aside and ask yourself.
What would I die worth? What is so damn worth so that I lose my life?
I'm sure every normal human being would remember their family, their freedom and happiness.
Did the War in Iraq made your family happier or gave them more freedom than before? Ask yourself, and see the theatre going on in front of your eyes. And you think it's true. So sad...

There are how many threads in the Otherside where people can express their political views? Is there really any need for it to be here as well?

Svarog, I cannot imagine any words to say that could make one bit of difference to how you're feeling, but if I knew them I would say them in a second.

I am sorry for you, and for Tracy, and for every other person who has lost a friend or family member only to be left with one stupid question in their place "why?"

Thanks for sharing this with us, its a horrible thing to read, but an important thing to remember that its what's happening.

then wolfie, if you openly admit that you have interests as oil and such.. how could you seriously talk BS like "He is one of the members of a rare breed that put others freedom above his safety. I'm proud to have such people in my country."

Dont you mean He is one of the members of a rare breed that puts us get some more oil and such above his safety. I'm proud to have such people in my country. then?

All of this seem like a crappy soap opera to me, heck it even makes sunset beach look clever

And i have every right to question you when you splash out thoughless statements about doing best for other peoples safety BS and then up to no way has proved that you would have any real knowledge about the people in real pain about family losses.. how they feel.

And please dont try to put words in my mouth, i havent even made my opinion on the matter public. Im just discussing this ignorant attitude that some of you got.

I understand & yes it's good to fight for what you believe in & I would even be proud but it's not the people who are fighting for my & our home here.
Were fighting on our leaders hate & we small people have to pay for it not the leaders of our US.

They are sitting on thier butts having a nice thanksgiving while our people are busting thier butts like if they just dont understand.

Bush lied to us why cant people here get that through thier thick head.
He lied about why we had to invade Iraq.
Yea we found out more about him when came to torures & such.

Our leaders get into too much business.
With all these dif religions no wonder thiers alot of suicide bombers, they think giving thier lives would bring them peace.
Why cant we leave them alone & come back home.

To me the big irony to this is in the last part.

They're not in your country. They're in Iraq.

Fighting a fight that's not theirs and dying for it.
