A Jester's frustration
Good day/night to all....
I want to talk to you about something that has been a thorn in my side since the day I came to HC. I've had to deal with this issue day in and day out... it follows my like my shadow... it haunts me in my dreams... it stops me from expressing myself fully...
It's like a communication handicap that I can no longer bear(?). I try the best I can to keep the conversations flowing, by of course posting things of humour... but i find that this issue is rising up and taking over me...
I can't deal with in any longer... It needs to be rectified... i can no longer sit idly by as this injustice persists here at HC. Im sorry if don't agree with me but it is my duty as, not only a member, but as Pandora's proclaimed Jester.... please let me due what it is what I came to HC to do......

I HATE FLOOD PROTECT!!!! 
C'mon people!!! we would really need to re-evaluate this damn crutch!! How can a Jester Jest when I need to drag this ball and chain down the halls to get from one forum to another??? I ask you!! Give me a brush!! The canvass is there just waiting to be splashed up with some colour!! and you give me black and white???!!
GOD help me!! SAVE ME!!! SAVE US ALL!!!!!
I mean there's FLOOD in the VW???? What the heck is that??? When I chat with fellow members without flood I feel as though they mock me! (some actually do  )
I feel that YOU (flood) are holding me back from developping my full potential!! DAMN YOU!! BE GONE!!!
BEAT IT!!!
.... well I need to walk back to the wastelands so i'd better get a heads start.... (stupid ball and chain!)

i have a few suggestions:
a)join another forum so while you wait for the flood protect to be over you can be active in that forum
b)have 2 accounts 
c)play 99 botles of beer on the wall
d)get more QP's
e)become a mod
f)INGENIOUS PLOT AHEAD!!!
We could form some kind of organisation where everytime we have to wait for flood to be over we send an IM to someone who doesnt have flood at that specific moment to post our post for us (giving us credit) and when that person has the flood on we post for them and it goes in a well organised web of specific mathematical graphing and calculations!!!
g)SLIGHTLY LESS INGENIOUS PLOT!!!
all the spammers create an account where they all pull together and try to make as many quality posts as possible for as many QP's to remove flood protect, then the account is free to any of the people who made the quality posts to use the account which is flood free

I used to use strategy a) - to spend my time in other forums while waiting for the flood protect to go away. GG is a nice place to waste away a few frustrated moments.

i think floodprotect should be taken away
i think we can all control ourselves and if we cant then we should get penalized for lack of self-diciplin
i want it gone
or drastically reduced to 5 seconds . . .no just get rid of it

I guess I shoulda specified... I don't want it gone for all!! I want it gone for me!!
I just think flood based on qp's is a little misguided.
Im here everyday and have been a member for almost a year now. Short of getting into another QP discussion,
i think flood could be reduced by 20-30sec per star
or on a more subjective rewards program... I think if you've proven yourself as a responsible poster, your flood could come down.

I wonder what is the number of spam posts that are NOT posted because flood protection? Is it about 10 spam posts per day? Do mods know how fequently floodprotect actually justifies its existence? just curious.

Hmm...
I like the way Valeriy has set up his board rules and regulations. I remember not having flood-protect. I recall becoming very annoyed because of my habitual editing disease. LoL, you'd be hard-pressed to find a single post of mine that wasn't edited. And the thought that someone might be reading my post before it's edited really bothers me. Valeriy's flood-protect rule taught me patience and reminded me of the kind of respect he builds in his members. Spam is a terrible thing and I think it helps keep them at bay. And also once you've finally reached the exemption of having no flood-protect, it is all the more enjoyable after having been so patient and committed to writing quality posts.

All i need is one more QP till my Flood Protect is gone...but i cant get it...I've come into a wall.
But yes i would vote to keep it, even though it is mildly annoying.

I have 0 QP but I vote to keep it, it helps to discourage SPAM and if you are doing other things at the same time as viewing HC, 90 seconds is a very short time....

i agree but i dont think that flood protect should apply to VW posts. the VW is for posting spam and having floodprotect there is kinda weird

You raise a good point, but you don't want the Spam in the VW to get out of control. I remember when I was at my first ever forum and me and a friend at school posted something and clicked the "submit reply" button at least 100 times each and we crashed their server. We were spamming in a thread which was made to set a record for the most posts in a thread, but that is not the point.

maybe we should just have thread flood protect in the wasteland, one thread every 10 minutes in the wasteland, but no post flod protect, that way you cant flood the wasteland with useless threads and still post happily

Sorry bud but Im a little confused...
you hate the idea of having someone read your undedited post, yet you feel that flood protect is a GOOD thing?
(I spend 90 watching my mistake just waiting and praying that nobody's gonna raz me for the typo..like i do to others... nothing better than starring at a :sohck;

not to be harsh but your posting habits are not necessarily one of a very social nor active member...
don't take that the wrong way, you posts are of quality but when posting only a few times a day, you've got plenty of time to dot your "i"s and cross your "t"'s.
For those of us who like to razz and be razzed,
90 seconds can seem like a lifetime.

I know that flood comes up often and I hope you and the mods can appreciate that this is not yet another "please get rid of Flood protect" although from some of the other posts, it may look like that...
I hope from my words, the point IM trying to make is clear.

While I do understand your point, and am not saying I object to looking at the current floodprotect setup critically, I thought I'd point out that its essentially there to stop/slow spamming.
Even though I know when you say that you like to razz/razz back - you're not talking about polluting the forums in a harmful way - but really it's that kind of back and forth speed posting that it is supposed to slow down.
To be honest though, I do remember the aggrivation of waiting to edit - it was the motivation behind a few of my posts that got QP's (and by that I don't mean I posted for the QP, I mean I was extra careful to make it good hoping for a QP... most of my QP posts came from silly ideas that popped into my head lol)
edit: To clarify, while I am saying that I understand your frustration - I understand it in the sense that when you aren't trying to do any harm, it can be a huge pain in the rear. The thing is that it's there to stop those who are trying to make trouble, which is why the red star system comes into play to seperate those who are and those who are not.
My best advice to you would be to suck up to RSF, he likes to give away stars (just kidding!!!) Seriously though, just keep posting in a good way, helping people, trying to improve the community, lots of haha etc and The stars will soon replace the flood
