Well actually, maybe if we only make the individual units we can make several variations with some differences. For example there could be 3 types of legionaries in this little family of units: The basic legionary which would have the stats I already proposed, an alternative version that would be slightly weaker but would be able to throw the spear like a lance (perhaps just call them lancers or skirmishers like I suggested) and finally a much more expirienced  upgraded legionary called a decurion or centurion that would have the flanking ability I suggested thanks to being more experienced.
And also I think that there should be a single structure called a "legionary camp" where the player can hire all 3 units (kind of like the war machines shop), obviously these buildings will give an important advantage to whatever player can capture them.
I dont know whether we should put the 7th level field catapults in the legionary camp or with the war machines, or in their own structure, any ideas?

So, overall I think this would be a fun little addition to WOG but wouldn't be as hard to make as a new town (and we wouldnt need to replace any other town)

EDIT: The story of how they ended up in the HOMM world can still be what I suggested (a Roman legion accidently going through a portal that opened in our world) or we can make up something new, or just give no explanation.

Well, I just looked around on google image search, like for example heres a pick that shows the regular legionary  and a centurion who has that plume thing on his helmet to show his rank:
http://images.encarta.msn.com/xrefmedia/zencmed/targets/illus/ill/T240107A.gif

And BTW great job on the legionary you made! (or I guess it would be our centurion since it has the plume lol, but in any case, we are so using it!

Yes, but since they are not regular legionaries they would have smaller round shields (like vikings) and not the huge rectangular legionary shields.
But in any case, since we agree that its better to develop the legion idea as just a couple of exra units with their own dwellings and not as a town, and because of this the auxilleries will probably not be neccesary, I mean we can still make them but only after were done everything else, they are just not very important.

Who knows maybe if we get more people to work on this with us we can later turn the small legion idea into a full town but for now its probably better to keep the project small.

EDIT: Now tat I think about it the auxiliaries may or may not have shields since they are irregulars, pehaps they should just have an axe or something since a large portion of Roman auxiliaries were Frankish/Germanic.

And another thing heres my MSN so that we dont have to keep posting small messages: sergeivesker@hotmail.com

Sure!
If you can spare the time try to make a "Skirmisher" or(spear(javelin) throwing infantry ) I already tried it but simply dont have the time, I recommend you try to use the Titan as a starting point as he already has a legionary style breastplate and leg and arm protection, as well as his animations already having "throw" frames, just replace the lightning with a spear!

And another thing, I'm also going to start making animations for this little project once I finish my exams in May, so if you could give me some tips on photoshop then it would be great::

I have exams too but I will hopefully give it a go. Now all I have to do is find Defview or whatever it was called on the computer so I can get hold of the graphics.

Not really, no. But I'll try to answer any Photoshop question you have; I'd give you some sort of tutorial if it were possible...

Ooh here's one, if you want to make a constant edit to every frame e.g. change a blue hat to a red one, it is easy to do this by recording an action and replaying it with the batch function!

Holy crap someone still remembers this COOL!

lol, I just got a notification in my email account that someone replied to this thread, and I realized I havent posted here in quite a long time.

Thanks for remembering Hell Deamon, I really appreciate it. I guess its time to do something about this, I'll restart my work on the legion units again and I'm very glad you still want to do this. I'll start the work on it this monday (army training this weekend).

Long live the Legion!!

No, I'm not dead just very busy.
At the moment I'm writing applications to let me switch to another university, working and doing training in the army.

But if someone other than me cares about this I will definitely make time to do this
