One idea I've been pushing for a long time to anybody who'll listen is a fully editable AI. Not just something where you can tweak the parameters but something where you can go in and create your own sub-loops and priority lists.
The way I envision it is that people would create their own AI's and then trade them on the internet. There would be separate AI's for both the battle and the strategic maps. People could then mix and match and improve on ones that they liked. Also people might develop different battlefield AI's depending on the hero and the creatures in the army.
The final result is that the AI would be something that would evolve through time. Somebody who beats the game consistently might set it aside and then come back a few years later and find the game returning the favor.
And then when somebody loses whoever created that particular AI can include their own little PwN message, like:
You have been mauled by the Spankmaster. Bendeth thee over!

They should make the Necropolis army more powerful. I don't really play or like the undead very much, but seeing the poor Shadow Dragon makes me want to reapply the Incorpreal ability they had in beta testing (increased stats woudn't hurt either). Same for the Wraith.
Edit: I also think they need more spells. But that's just me.

Wrath of the Minotaurs
heh heh sorry, that's just my axe to grind.
It's going to depend on whatever new factions are included in it. I'm predicting all the Orcs that rebelled and were expelled are going to be sweeping in from the wastelands.
how about:
"From the Forgotten Wastelands"
or maybe it'll just be a cliche like "War of the mighty"

I'm hoping for lots and lots of neutral creatures. When you're building a map all the neutrals really expand your storytelling possibilities.
also the reason I'm so wrapped up in this thread is because by the time the expansions come out I may finally be able to afford a new computer.
For most people here H5 comes out in a month, for me it's more like a year and a half.

I'd like to see a Dwarf faction at some point, plus a Fortress rehash wouldn't go amiss. What I'd also quite like to see is a `new` town - not necessarily all new creatures, but a new theme or unifying concept maybe, with a little originality. Just not too original.

I would expect 2 add ons with 2 different faction featuring their story and related campaigns with other factions. The last addon could be a slight introduction to Homm VI if any. Ah the factions.... Mostly I would like to see Dwarves with steamtech on Snow terrain in the Ist expansion and Nagas with lizardmen on watery living swamp for second expansion.

Zehir (Campaign Hero):
"Excitable, headstrong, and energetic are the sorts of words the older Mages use to describe Zehir. He chose to master elemental magic, figuring (correctly) that if he could control beings as fickle and powerful as elementals he would be well prepared for any magical struggle.Though the title First of the Circle was granted to the young Mage in the hopes of staving off political infighting during a crisis, the other wizards of the Circle quickly realized that it was only a matter of time before Zehir's skills surpassed theirs - time that is more likely to be measured in months than in years."
Maby HE will summon the new Conflux! But who knows?

Personaly, I think that there should be severak things in the expansions:
)More towns like Barbarians, Reptilian people, Orcs, Dwarves, ect.
)Connections to the past: magic is limitless, and so are the ancients. There must be some connections to the past. Some of the old Heroes must be back!
)Like FriendOfGunnar mentioned, costumable AI will be an interesting feature.
)Balancing: there must be some balancing as there are troops and abilities that sound good on paper, but are not that good in practice. For instance the incorporeal ability, or the summoning ability of the Devil. Like Fofa said, there is some work to do on the Undead.
Well, I guess that's enough for now, if anything comes to my mind I shal post it...

Another thing that I consider imperative is spells. As for now, there are less then 50 spells and that is not enough IMO. I think there should be at least 20 spells for each spell school (maybe 15 adventure), and not 10 or so like it is now. Just look how many spells were in each school in HOMM III or even HOMM IV (spells were one of the only good points of this game).
About the name, it depends what will be the themes of the expansion packs. If there will be returning old heroes, a name like "Rise Of The Phoenix" may do, although it is a bit chliche. Even a stupid name like "A Blast From The Past" will be good (just kidding ).
If there will be other factions like Barbarians or Orcs the name might be "Return Of The Beasts" or "Revenge Of The Wasteland".
If a Forge like town will be introduced, the pack can be named "The Future Is Now" or "A Leap In Time".
A good - for - all - situations name for an expansion pack can be "Secrets Of The Lost Realms" or "Wrath Of The Dragon Gods".
If there will be an expansion dealing with the return of the secret orders we see in the history section, it can be called "Coming Out Of The Shadows", or if dealing with the 7th dragon it can be obviously named "Return Of The 7th Dragon".
Well, that's it for now, I'll post some more if I'll think of 'em.

I'd say the same - more spells.
First of all - we need more damage spells, especially when playing dungeon and dealing with elemental chains.
What i miss most are some global spells like in other fantasy strategy games like Age of Wonders, Disciples or Master of Magic. Not sure how to include that since you don't build a mana reserve/income in those games.
Best option would be a small array of faction powers comparable to the necros necromancy amp - a building with a small array of free and always active and invocable powers(gold/resource/sacrifice-cost) wouldn't be too difficult.
Powers could range from increased growth in faction dwellings, increased stats/resistances for all heroes to economical advantages/disadvantages (ie haven -> good weather -> increased peasant income)
Another interesting aspect would be magic specialization. Ok, we got the magic skills allowing us to learn and cast lvl 3+ spells but i'm thinking of setting a mage guild on specialization when built resulting in specializing on the kind of magic you learned and need.
Advantage could be a number of spells which can only be gained by specializing, disadvantage would be narrowing the choice to just one school and maybe even reducing the number of spells available.
That's just my 2 cents gained from playing the demo. For some real suggestions i'll wait till I got the full game...

Regarding new towns...personally, I usually like to associate towns with certain terrain types, so I think it would be cool to have something snow-based (dwarves would seem pretty logical for this) or something water or sea-based (like some sort of lizard-man city). A lizard town might have something like: your standard lizard-warriors or archers, maybe an amazon-esque warrior, a lizard riding on some flying creature (dragonfly maybe?), a lizard shaman, nagas, and perhaps a sea dragon as their tier 7. Just my thoughts. I would be perfectly fine with a stronghold town too.
